Lancs League Worsley Cup 2nd round

Post by ClaretTony » Sat May 25, 2019 4:56 pm

Eight games today but just seen the scorecard for Burnley’s innings at Accrington. Burnley have scored 278/7 but I noticed that there were 53 extras in that innings with no fewer than 12 no balls and a staggering 33 wides.

Lowerhouse made 212/8 against Rochdale

Darwen hit 401/6 against East Lancs - a Worsley Cup limited overs record.

Rained off at Colne. Littleborough scored about 250 with pro getting a century. Colne had just started their reply and lost a wicket when the drizzle got too heavy to carry on.

'Ouse were well in the driving seat at one stage and managed to lose it. Fair play to Rochdale.

Surprised at Lowerhouse but from what I’ve seen this year they’ve the players to turn it around, they need to act quick though before they fall away. Still think they lack a seamer and need their opener 1-3 to step up

I saw that Derrrwin scored 401 but seen no update since so presumed East Lancs knocked them off with overs to spare. Border 321 not out

You forgot the smiley again.

Even I didn't ever get hit for that many.

Darwen v East Lancs was abandoned and will now be replayed on 8th June so it was all for nothing.

Don't think they've ever done that before, previously games were continued from where they left off.

That’s only if the second innings starts isn’t it?

53 wides!
Rossy workshop league cup. 10 bowlers, two overs apiece and I never saw 53 wides and I could chip in with half a dozen in my two overs.

They changed the rules last year. Semi Finals and Finals will continue until finished with no overs reductions; earlier rounds use the Duckworth Lewis method.

The problem, if it is a problem, is in the wording of the rules. If the game doesn't reach 20 overs in the second innings, then DL can't apply. The rules state that in the early rounds, all rules apply as if it was a League game; this therefore includes the rule that if 20 overs aren't complete, then the match is abandoned.

Whether that was the intention of the rule, or whether it's a specific situation that hasn't been thought through, I don't know. We'll find out this winter if the rules are rewritten. But there are three possible things to do - replay the whole thing; continue the existing game on the reserve date two weeks later; or keep coming back on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday etc. And the dilemma of what to do with Duckworth-Lewis in the third instance is a matter for a professor of mathematics and psychology!

And Darwens record breaking first innings score is now null and void.

Changed the rules but they then had to have a meeting to make a decision on what to do when the games were called off.
