Last day drama, Zizkov style. Druha Liga Viktorku!
25th May 2009: Burnley Promoted - 25th May 2019: Druha Liga Viktorku!
Two great football days in my life.
25th May 2009 - Well, if you are here, you know.
25th May 2019:
Viktoria Zizkov should have been down, into the 3rd tier of Czech football, the CFL, and possibly struggle to return. At christmas i had feared seeing both my teams being relegated in the same season. Zizkov were rooted to the foot of the table, and utterly hopeless. We didnt look like a team who had never met before in the Autumn season, we looked like a team who had never seen a football before.
Autumn Season table:
https://www.fnliga.cz/tabulka/2018?id_t ... t_season=1
So, Spring came, and we had a pretty much fully changed squad. Some genuine quality was introduced, although a key part of that promptly got a broken leg so missed most of the spring season. We won a few home games, but our away form was utterly dismal, including against those direct rivals, MAS Taborsko and Zjnomo.
So, yesterday i got the early train to Chrudim, more in hope than expectation with some liquid breakfast to settle the nerves:
A change at Pardubice and a local train later and i arrived in Chrudim. A spot of lunch and a quick bout of sightseeing (there wasn't a great deal that i saw tbf), and i headed to the ground to get my bearings:
It's not the biggest, with Chrudim having only been promoted the previous season, some elements of being a small 3rd tier club remain:
The "Youth Firm" end?
After a few more Kozels, and a meeting with the kind of crazy groundhoppers from south England that somehow find themselves at these grounds (Hey @LeoHoenig ), it was time to wander around to the away end watch the game.
I'll let the FNL site summarise the game:
Critical fight in Chrudim started much better for footballers from Zizkov. Although the picture of the game brought a balanced spectacle, the guests taught Chrudim team the ending efficiency. At the home chance of Milan Ujec, guests responded with a quick action, at the end of which Filip Kubala ended up in the uncovered Chrudim goal . And that wasn't all. Four minutes later, the Žižkov family made it a second time, and after a corner kick, the balloon returned to the frontal area, where Ondřej Žežulka swept him into the net .
The guests with two-goal lead heavily and started a series of goals on the opponent's side. The biggest chances to cut were Vencl and Drahoš. After the shot of the first one, a crossbar sounded behind Soukup, while Petr Drahoš's head had to be cleared by the Žižkovs from the goal line. However, Chrudim's reduction was still pause. The striker Milan Ujec showed his quality , who presented himself at a set time with a clever hack and a cold-blooded end just to the pole where he returned the Chrudim rookie back to the game.
The second half brought a clear spectacle. The Chrudim family consistently pushed their opponents and loudly called for a settlement. Žižkov survived a number of situations, the luck behind him was especially when he was shot by Roman Čáp in the last minute of setting. After the final whistle, the guests celebrated the rescue, but in the second highest competition, due to earlier results, the East Bohemian Chrudim also remained. This is the thirteenth in the table.

Went to Prague on a stag do a few years back and stayed a stones throw from Zizkov's ground. Looked for their results ever since and was chuffed with how it panned out. Znojmo must be sad. Must win to survive and lose 7-1!

I think, bias admitted, that this was the fair result. We really picked up in the 2nd half of the season, and Znojmo and Taborsko were pretty consistently poor so. So well, the table doesn't lie i guess

We've been absolute shite this season at times, but i'll say one thing, it's never boring.theroyaldyche wrote:Sound like a good football team
Couple of seasons ago the Czech FA were still headed by Miroslav Pelta. We kept getting fined for singing "Pelta ven!" (Pelta Out) at games (yes really, just that).
As a result, the sporting director at the time, Ivan Hornik (a google of him is another rabbit hole entirely) made a deal with us of free away tickets, if we stopped singing pelta ven
