The basic skills are lacking, the first touch from the majority of the player's has been appalling.

Sunderland must be 1 of the unluckiest clubs in the modern era!

Glad for Charlton after the turmoil they have had due to the dodgy owners.

As one of the few people who thought the Sunderland fans generally came across pretty badly in that Netflix documentary, I’m not exactly awash with sympathy.

How anyone can side with Charlton after the debacle in that last game when we clinched the title is a bit odd to put it mildly.

If anyone was going to win it was Charlton but one of my best mates was in the Sunlan end and he’ll be devastated.

They've suffered more than most from horrific ownership, and I always find them a decent lot.
At least they weren't boasting about walking the league before a ball was kicked last season, unlike a lot of Sunderland supporters.

Re: Sunderland vs Charlton
Charlton deserved their win.
I was up in the Sunderland area when they fell out of the Prem. Their fans were way overconfident about bouncing right back and some even said they would be swapping places with us. They got relegated to League One and we finished 7th in the EPL. In August they'll be starting yet another season in League One. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

It was a great day out for every Burnley fan I've ever talked to about it. Good atmosphere before and after the game, party time for us once that 1st goal went in - we knew we were going up as CHAMPIONES. Lots of sympathy and support from us towards the Charlton fans and the situation they were in. Spoke to to quite a few Charlton fans on the pitch at the end and they were all decent people to chat with. A fantastic day for us from start to end!South West Claret. wrote:How anyone can side with Charlton after the debacle in that last game when we clinched the title is a bit odd to put it mildly.

In Scotland they have the same system we had briefly in England, where the team second bottom enters the playoffs with the second third and fourth teams of the division below.

Football is not only for the fortunate ones who are able to attend games but for a lot of others who are barred from doing so as Burnley fans were at Charlton on that day!
Memories of the nonsense that preceded that game seem to have faded amongst some on here obviously.

Their fans were fantastic that day to say what they were going through .
They applauded SD along the touch line at full time, they applauded our fans as we invaded the pitch when it would have been easier to show anger, I mingled with several on the pitch who shook my hand and wished our club well.
Even out of the ground post match, many congratulated us and wished us well for the future.
To say the events and emotions they were going through that day, I cant think of a single negative incident, and I'm not sure any club could have acted as well as they did that day considering the circumstances.
Happy for them today, their fans deserve it IMO just for the way they treated us that day alone ...

Really happy for CAFC that they've gone up. I lived in London most of my adult life, and contrary to northern opinion, Londoners are friendly. And Charlton is actually a really nice place.

Charlton fans were brilliant that day.... I'm not sure how we'd have reacted head we been relegated, had ownership issues and a London club took over turf moor, invaded the pitch etc etc.South West Claret. wrote:How anyone can side with Charlton after the debacle in that last game when we clinched the title is a bit odd to put it mildly.
I sat in the north stand (home end) and they were brilliant towards us....
I'm delighted that Charlton won today... Apart from everything else... They finished 3rd and were the better team on the day.
Lee Bowyer's done a magnificent job.

Re: Sunderland vs Charlton
It seems to me that your point is that you can't understand why anyone would be happy for Charlton, given that you couldn't get a ticket for the game 3 years ago. Sorry they didn't let you in, but I have to hold my hand up and say it wasn't the first thing I thought about when the whistle went yesterday.South West Claret. wrote:See post 76, and that goes for anyone else who misses the point.

Re: Sunderland vs Charlton
Every away game has a limited number of tickets available. Inevitably, in a promotion party and possible Championship game, there were many who were left disappointed. I know nothing of your trials and tribulations in trying to get a ticket and nothing of why, as you say, you were BARRED from being allocated one - even in the home end. So I couldn't possibly allow your issues affect how I remember that game.South West Claret. wrote:With respect that is irrelevant when considering the point I was trying to make in the post.
