Newcastle to be sold

Post by Vegas Claret » Mon May 27, 2019 4:08 am

"Mike Ashley has agreed to sell Newcastle for £350million, according to reports.

The buyer it is claimed is the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan.

According to The Sun, contracts have already been signed and submitted to the Premier League between the two parties with Ashley ready to stand down after 12 years in charge on Tyneside.

Sheikh Khaled is a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family and one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the Gulf states.

He is also the man who attempted a £2billion takeover of Liverpool last year, but failed in his mission to do so."

If that's correct you can kiss goodbye to Newcastle being anywhere near the bottom

That'll be the geordies expecting to become the next man city.
To be fair they are a big club, helped by being a one club city.
A similar level of investment, with a bloke like Benitez as manager, should see them competing at the top table in a couple of seasons.
Will we see the 3 way split in the prem become a two?
Instead of a top middle and bottom, the divide will be the mega rich and everyone else.

Is there not a conflict of interest if the owners are related?? On a different tack, seems Ashley is offloading Sports Direct to a Malaysian investment company!

This will increase the bidding war for top players and push general prices up even further unless they have some kind of special family agreement.

Every takeover like this is bad news for the game.
I used to respect City when they had a good following in League 1 an worked there way back up but can't stand there fans now there worse than United fans were at there peak, at least United was run correctly.
Newcastle fans will be just as bad i bet an it's all cheating the clubs can't sustain what there becoming without the money Man City would never of played champs league football without the money, this FA cup final was the first I've ever not watched because I had no interest, football is losing its soul.

Makes me laugh how angry and worked up people get themselves over other clubs having money to spend

Good luck to them. Potentially a huge club. Fanatical support. Proper football city.

Really? Only it the sense that it once again confirms the premier league as the world’s premier dick-swinging contest for the unimaginably wealthy. Not really sport, is it?

Really? When they had the whip hand in the mid-90s, they won the square root of f@ck all. Even R*vers won more than them when they were backed by money.
Newcastle Utd are only Sleeping Giants in their own minds.

I’ll agree with that!

For a couple of years I’ve been wondering when someone with extremely deep pockets would invest In Newcastle United. They have all the potential to be a massive club on the high stakes footy stage. Well supported, decent facility, strong history. Good luck to them.

Don’t know about the Premier League but I remember the Maxwell’s being refused permission to buy Oxford because they already owned Reading, it was in the pre - premier, but surely the principle was adopted by the prem too?

I'd be surprised if the FA had the power to stop cousins competing as football club owners. Even if they are first cousins, it only means they had a grandparent in common. I bet there are many of us have cousins who we wouldn't recognise if we met them in the street - I know I have. (Albeit first cousins once removed.)

And didn't he suggest amalgamation calling them the Thames Valley Royals, now he was a dodgy dealer.

Depends on how you define “massive” but I don’t see how they have more potential than any other club backed by Arab (or Russian, Chinese etc) billions.

There are plenty of Sheiks left to go round the rest of the Premier League teams.

I can't wait for the day when Burnley, Watford, Brighton, Bournemouth, Southampton and Norwich are the top six.

"Rafa Benitez faces the sack if the mooted takeover of Newcastle goes ahead.

Billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Abu Dhabi-based group have their own managerial targets, with Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger at the top of the list.

Current owner Mike Ashley has put further talks with boss Benitez over a new contract on hold while discussions about selling the Premier League club to Sheikh Khaled take place.

Benitez’s deal expires at the end of this month.

However, we can reveal there are doubts within the Ashley camp that the controversial Sports Direct magnate’s Tyneside reign is actually about to come to an end."

Am writing this some 1.5 miles from SJP, local news suggests the potential sale is taking its time with fit and proper person checks etc. The rumour mill doon the toon is quiet, Ashley is not an easy guy to work/deal with and Benitez's contract runs out in 27 days. Watch this space!
