Wow. Some great arrogance there. I’m assuming you think we’re dead certs for 7th or better?
Re: Villa straight down
No chance.
They’ve plenty of money, are a huge club and will spend big. I expect them to be next season’s Wolves, along with Newcastle.

Norwich more in danger of coming straight back down, methinks. Don't think Delia is gonna exactly splurge the cash.

I can see them being involved in the relegation scrap to be honest.
I think they’ll concede a lot.

Weren't they linked with Ben Gibson in January? Wouldn't be surprised if they were back in for him, I'm pretty sure Gibson would be happy to leave.

Villa are a small club with a big following.
Money doesn't guarantee you survival ask Fulham fans
Villa hovered around the bottom of the Premier League for several seasons and have a massive task to rebuild their team.
Yes I do think we will stay up for a fifth season.

You are all entitled to your opinions.Time will tell whose are more valid.
Re: Villa straight down
Villa, whatever you may think of them, are certainly not a small club.

Small club? They’re as big as, for example, Everton.

They might go down - you are entitled to your opinion. Bit early for me personally - the team hasn’t got out of the showers yet....let alone started buying players.Woodleyclaret wrote:You are all entitled to your opinions.Time will tell whose are more valid.
You can’t just say it’s your opinion that they are a small club though - very clearly they are not. Massive fan base, big ground, great history.
I don’t know their current financial situation or how rich their owners are but as a club they have a much bigger potential to attract big investors than Burnley ever will.

One things for sure they are media darlings and will get hyped up by the media.
Investors are attracted by the hype so they will attract more investment than us.This is whats makes our place in the Premier League all that sweeter.
We have great fans, players who give their all and the best manager .

They did, when their owner gave up on them. They've got massive backing now. I'd think they will be the best equipped of the three going up.Woodleyclaret wrote:Villa hovered around the bottom of the Premier League for several seasons

Already got the bones of a reasonable side, good manager and affluent owners. Think they’ll finish just below halfway which will be a good season. Definitely a big club.

Fulham had better players than Villa....
Re: Villa straight down
Let's see how they get on in the transfer market. And in any case it's far from all about how good their players are on paper. We should know that more than anyone.Spijed wrote:Fulham had better players than Villa....

As much of a bigger club with a bigger fanbase than us,with more money etc, they still have to put eleven players on the field that can beat a sd well organised team like us UTC.

I'm sure he would. Still trying to get my head around why he would leave Boro to come here and sit on our bench. Captain wasn't he?jrgbfc wrote:Weren't they linked with Ben Gibson in January? Wouldn't be surprised if they were back in for him, I'm pretty sure Gibson would be happy to leave.
I'm also still trying to get my head around why we would spend the sum we did on a bench warmer.
I can only assume the club thought Ben was definitely off and got him in because of that.

Because bench warmers don't always have to remain bench warmers. Keane and Tarks were on our bench initially.bobinho wrote:I'm sure he would. Still trying to get my head around why he would leave Boro to come here and sit on our bench. Captain wasn't he?

Yeah it was a bit of a strange one. It must have looked like Ben Mee was on his way. I think Gibson will want out this summer, he's too good to be sitting on the bench for us.bobinho wrote:I'm sure he would. Re: Villa straight down
I hear you, but Keane replaced a retiree did he not? A natural progression. Tarks replaced Keane, another natural - but different - progression.FactualFrank wrote:Because bench warmers don't always have to remain bench warmers. Keane and Tarks were on our bench initially.
Having Gibson here seems to indicate that either Mee or Tarks are away if we follow that logic.
He won't want another full season sat on his backside here.
Re: Villa straight down
We signed Gibson because we had just 3 centre halves, one of which (Long) is seen as a reserve. A good quality Premier centre half was available, so we signed him.bobinho wrote:I hear you, but Keane replaced a retiree did he not? A natural progression. Re: Villa straight down
Of the three going up, Villa are the only club that have the resources to stay up. Villa have a strong squad who have Premier league experience, with a couple of additions they should have enough in their tank to stop up.
Sheff utd have boardroom problems at the moment so I doubt that they will splash the cash.
Norwich have owners like ourselves who aren't football rich

Excellent chance of survival
Good manager, good squad and they will get loads for Grealish
Course, they lose their loan players, but I was rooting for Derby because they are so much weaker.

Fans on the radio this morning saying they will make the top 4. They won’t. They’ll stay up but get some pastings.
Re: Villa straight down
I think it is 5-8 on that the play off team goes straight back down as I counted 16 straight back down and 10 staying at least one season.
Villa are a big club and their record supports that no matter what present folk suggest. A club going up after the play offs has to be big to survive.
Of the 10 who stayed Rovers had the best survival stats and were Walker big with a star manager. Leicester Bolton Palace all failed to stay more than a season on their first promotions and needed one or more play off wins to stay up for a time.Swansea are perhaps the only small team to win in the play offs and stay up.
WHU have won two play offs and stayed a while thereafter, then you have the likes of Hull, Ipswich, Huddersfield who were in the league for two seasons only after a play off victory

Had to laugh when I spotted Lansbury taking the tracksuit off at the end of the game, waiting to get in on the act - just like John Terry !

Re: Villa straight down
Villa's main concern is what they do about the 'core' of their side that may not even be there next season:
Tuanzebe / Mings / El Ghazi / Abraham
Even for us, imagine starting the season without Tarky / Mee / McNeil / Barnes

According to the radio just now- Villa are the 6th most successful English team in terms of trophies
Doesn’t mean they’ll stay up but I think they’ve a fair chance of avoiding the bottom 3

Just seen on Twitter that Ross McCormack, who has not played for Villa for over 600 days will see his weekly wage increase to £70,000 as a result of yesterday's promotion

Villa and Wolves have always been the 2 big Midlands clubs, and it's good that they're both in the Premier League, (much prefer to have them than the likes of plastic Brighton and Bournemouth), but as others have posted it doesn't help us in our annual battle to stay in the top flight.

Re: Villa straight down
Blades and Canaries are current bookies' favourites to go down (both just odds-on).
Closely followed by us, BHA and Villa pretty much level pegging at c 2/1 ish.
Southampton, Newcastle, Palace , Bournemouth in the next group.
It'll doubtless change after the transfer merry-go-round (Toon's may get longer IF they get the big investment).
I might have a little early bet on Cheries, on the basis that they may well lose 1 or 2 of their mainstays + they finished the season pretty poorly. I can currently get 6/1 on that.
