European car hire - booking.com

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Mon May 27, 2019 8:04 pm

Anyone used them? Seems ridiculously cheap compared to other agencies. Have used them for hotels regular but nothing else.

Anyone know of any hidden costs or higher insurance etc?

Need pick up and drop off in different places if anyone can vouch for booking (or other)

Thanks

I used a comparison site ( can’t remember which one ) and only one company came up that I hadn’t heard of. The cheapest was a well known company but they all seemed to offer similar deals. Dropping off at a different location was expensive so changed route.

Carrentals - google it. Look for “fair fuel policy”. A lot of car hire companies make money by charging you for a full tank of petrol. Go for one that allows you to return it full. Don’t take their insurance, get excess insurance from someone like Questor.

Depending on countries, I have used doyouspain. Always go Full/Full on fuel, also get the excess insurance independently but it does mean that you’ll have a large block on your credit card 500-1200 euro.

Guess this is all pretty standard stuff- people sometimes complain about the broker sites, most of the complaints I’ve seen have been people not reading the T & Cs.

Last company I used was wheels of Spain, they are a small English company who operate out of Alicante and Murcia airports. I was driving the car away within 15 minutes of going through passport control. They did not even ask to see my licence until I arrived back 12 days later, I couldn't believe it

Be wary of Gold Car who have a terrible reputation in Spain, along with many others.
