We've found our pacy winger

Post by Woodleyclaret » Tue May 28, 2019 1:42 am

John McGinn
Villas £2.7m buy from Hibs.
Looks a great shout for us to sign.Pace and skill he reminds me of an upgraded Ross Wallace.
Villa will need a better cb so maybe we have the possibility of a deal there.

The problem is even an upgrade on Wallace would still be a few upgrades short.

Brady is an upgrade on McGinn

I sure hope a wide player is in our shopping list, but I've a sneaking feeling itll be the least of our priorities this summer.

Always a wise move to try and buy from a club that's just been promoted, rather than one who has just missed out.

I'm glad you're not in charge of my business.

A winger? he's a central midfielder as pointed out above and why would a promoted club sell their best players to a rival team when they probably have more money available to spend than us?

he stood out for Hibs, and looks good for Villa but he's not pacy, works his socks off and has a great range of passing.

He's basically Westwood.

Was just thinking the exact same thing Lancaster.

Macca would have a point too if Brady shows up anytime... Ok, so that's a bit harsh, his form was quite superb for a coupe of months prior to the injury. I worry that we may end up remembering Brady in the same way I (and others) remember McCann. Could've been special, but it never quite got there.

The thread header would have made sense if we “had” been in for him while he was with Hibs but not at Villa for the reasons given in other posts.

The young Aberdeen winger who scored against us, impressed me. Double barrelled surname I think. Didn’t follow his progress during the season though.

Wouldn't take long for SD to have our pace winger becoming an inverted winger lost in traffic. Last few games DM was heading infield rather than down the wing.

But buying him for a tenth of the price from Hibs last year would mean we had detailed knowledge of the British market rather than the European market.......... oh, hang on  :?

If you're talking about Gary Mackay-Steven then he's 28!

McGinn strikes me as the sort of player who, if Villa had failed to be promoted, we'd have bid 5 times for with our final deadline day offer of £9m + add ons rejected.
