Its ironic how much Dyche wont deal with Europe yet right wing is our weak point!

The squad showed it's frailties and weaknesses last season, and whilst the second half of the season was brilliant, we were displaying champions league form just to stay up. That surely won't continue into next season.

Transfer windows have often been painful experiences for us under Dyche, with the odd surprise thrown in. Let's hope it's one of those surprise ones.
But we will have a fullnpre-season thus we will get more than 12 points

We know how thorough the manager is in terms of bringing in players, wanting chapter and verse on him, but it’s that thoroughness that’s got us where we are. I’m more than happy to let the manager be the judge on this one.
Absolutely. I'd like to know the success rate with these virtually unknown imports. At the very least SD's caution has avoided unnecessary risk.

Was Brighton's transfer business any worse than ours?

Vydra and Gibson made a handful of appearances for nearly 30m of fees?

I agree that there has been far more expensive flops from overseas than there has been successes - and I reckon for the “smaller” premier league clubs this is probably even more the case.
But that said I don’t think we should just ignore this market - it’s fine to treat it with more caution and due diligence but if we can find players who we consider to be low risk, relatively cheap and they have all the other attributes Dyche is looking for then I would thought all this does is increase the pool of players who meet our criteria.

Try not to get excited about transfer windows any more. Its the best approach.

At least weve got our excuses in plenty early this year.

If they insist on not shopping abroad though, lets not be hearing excuses about 'the market we are operating in'.

And you know what? During that time we've been far more successful than most clubs can ever hope to be, and even qualifying for Europe in the process.

All because of the way we operate.

I’m glad somebody has mentioned the elephant in the room that nigh on £30m for two players bought ‘shopping at home’ led to no improvement to our starting XI last season.

This is **** poor if true - of course it’s not easy looking for players in Europe but that’s why he have a scouting department and heavily remunerated technical director. We have one of the tightest budgets in the league and therefore need value for money, so to stymie ourselves in this way is somewhat short-sighted.

In a crap hull side he has contributed over 40 goals and assists in 3 years. He cost 8m. He looked good value at the time and has proved as much since.
All the debates about spending money and shopping in Europe are in the service of keeping Burnley in the Premier League.

Grosicki has done well for Hull, in the Championship. If a player only comes good once we've dropped down a level then the signing could be ruled a failure.
Rumour mill has Notts Forest interested at £2.5m or even a Free Transfer down from the £7m Hull paid. Those are the types of gambles and losses Dyche is looking to avoid.

Gibson is 3rd choice at CB, and we needed one

Vydra is the iffy one, but I do believe in the manager ability to get the best out of players given time, so I'm waiting to see how he does.

Brightons record signings from the dutch leagues over the last two years have been terrible, and cost them a lot more than £30 million

Yes, nearly had him but he got the chance to go to a club who were in the Champions League. Nothing to do with Dyche or any perceived stubbornness.

I'd say so £77.5 million in fees.

Vydra and Gibson you could argue are players for the future, we've not seen enough to judge fully.

Brighton's signings meanwhile have been getting game time so you could say they've proven themselves to be worse. This includes £32million on two foreign midfielders with 2772 minutes of game time and only a single assist to show for it.

Im not sure on the point. Grosicki has done well pretty much since he got there. Hull as a club are a bit of a mess and the teams poor. But hes excelled. And its foolish to discount the fact that most of his success has been at championship level. Because A) thats where we shop and B) he has been the standout winger in that league.

How much will it cost us to buy an english equivelent even from that league? Who will have less pedigree abroad and internationally.

Grosicki was a proven international who had done well in France.
He also actually did well at Hull in this league. They were pretty much doomed from the start of that season and were in turmoil but he came in and made a real impression.

Had it been Ben Mee's leg that was broken in that tackle instead of Joe Gomez's, I think we would have been saying what a good buy Ben Gibson was.
Gibson was brought in primarily as defensive cover which we desperately needed, as could be seen when Mee was out injured for the last few games of last season (or was that when he was refusing to play?)

Nobody disputes that. But more pressing is improving the starting 11.

For a frugal ckub to spend 15m on a backup centre half and 8 plus million on a backup striker but then not invest in a key area we are short - midfield is a bit shortsighted.

23m is nearly 30m now, when you want to bitch about the club the facts don't matter. Vydra was nowhere near 15m but it helps with the whinge. Had we not signed someone like Gibson and lost a centre half to injury the same complaining about Gibson would then be complaining we why hadn't we signed cover at centre half, so now it turns to lets moan he isn't playing. It is like we are the only club in football who has to have a bench that shouldn't be good enough to play.

As for the daft comment was Brighton's business any worse than ours ? No it was miles worse Jahanbaksh, Bissouma, Bernardo, Montoya, Andone don't equal Gibson & Vydra

And this is exactly the reason Dyche will never be considered for a big job.

Why limit ourselves to just Europe? There’s some gems playing in the America’s who would be very cheap.

The usual shopping in the championship continues.

Wouldn't these "gems" be snapped up as soon as the window opened by all the other clubs with brilliant scouting ?

Care to name any ?

We've still had a decent number of signings who haven't worked out and barely played though: Wells, Vydra, Hennings, etc Would that number be higher if we'd been looking overseas?

Added to that is SD's caution when bringing a player into the team. We talk about not wanting someone who will take months to acclimatise but that is exactly how we operate anyway. We all know that if we sign a variety of players in this transfer window the starting XI for the first game of next season will be largely similar to the end of this season. Players are introduced very slowly and that has always been the case.

Possibility, it’s easier for premier league clubs though to influence through a WP.

There’s a few South American’s playing in MLS who are in U21s/U20s squads who we should be looking at, because they are cheap both in value and wages and have the potential to be very good players.

SD just will not take any slight risk what so ever and his transfer record isn’t exactly that great either as it is.

I suppose what all this boils down to is the Irish clubs now must be shaking in their boots thinking about losing their best players. As for the Antwerp thing and Defour I doubt it because surely they must know the ONLY reason he wasn't playing was because of injury, and if he had been playing surely he wouldn't want to clear off back to the pretty dire Belgian League (and presumably less money).
