Missed this as `I was in USA on business. Just watched the highlights of the 2009 win and reading this report reminds me that we have won two play off finals at Wembley and on both occasions the opposition ended up with 9 men albeit Sheff Utd lost player number 2 after the final whistle.
We really should have won that game against Utd by 3 or 4.

Why on Earth did Les Thompson turn down a Division 1 contract to go non league?

Always a question I've not been able to answer but maybe he thought he wouldn't get in the side in a higher division.

WOW, really poor buys in the summer, that and losing Farrell and Francis, not playing Pender ultimately cost us. Think we tried to get Phelan back too.

We did try to get Micky Phelan back. He was leaving United but he opted to sign for West Brom instead.

If you watch the Wembley 1994 video as the teams emerge from the tunnel, Paul Wilson (I think) punches Les Thompson on the arm. It doesn’t look like it was a playful exchange.

Paul Wilson, another who came and then quickly disappeared.

I once spilt a drink down the back of Paul Wilson's wife's dress in the bar after a game. It put it on the bar behind an ice bucket, unbeknown to me someone had put an ashtray there, so it was actually on the edge of the ashtray and once I let go, over it went right down her back. It was a pint of lager and blackcurrant!

I won't repeat what Les said about Wilson's wife when I mentioned it, but I don't think there was a lot of love lost between the two of them.....

Two play-off finals, two victories....three goals scored....ALL from outside the area. How very un-Burnleylike!

I think the Eyres goal was just about on the 18 yard line. Our only other Wembley goals, Jimmy Robson & Chris Wood, have been from inside the box.

Wow, hard to believe that's 25 years ago. Remember the drive down vividly, every single motorway services was a sea of claret and blue. Must try to watch the match again as I'm sure my memories of it have got fuzzy over the years, but the last thing I remember is Steve Davis taking on the whole Stockport team!

I was on a train with Colne Clarets, a certain Mr Beecroft was involved in that. We had massive delays due to engineering works, so I had to leg it from the station to the stadium. I got to my seat as the national anthem was finishing, however my then father in law arrived later and missed the Stockport goal. He couldn't believe when I said we were one down until he looked at the scoreboard.

The train journey home was particularly enjoyable.....

What was the deal with the Wembley shirt the club brought out? The Yellow, black and red thing. I think I have it in the loft - it's still monstrous... but what was the point in it?

I have always found that spilling a drink, down the front, is a better spectacle.

I was also on that Colne Clarets train, Herts. I was really angry that we didn't get there to enjoy the Wembley build up etc. I remember running (trotting) all the way from the station to the ground, I was knackered when I got there, it took me til half time to recover!!

They were the first batch of the following season's away kit but the players, still fuming at the green & black, said they wouldn't wear it, so the club stuck Wembley on the front of them and flogged them.

If there was a downside to that day, it was the lack of Stockport support. From memory, there couldn't have been more than 8000 fans.

Wow. Thanks. Although, I liked the black and green kit. I know we never won in it, but still, I thought it was nice haha (I was only 10/11 at the time, but I still quite like it now).

An absolutely brilliant week end capped by the euphoria of the win backed by enormous and very, very loud support! Being churlish, I wish we'd have buried a couple of the numerous chances which came our way later in the game, just to calm the nerves, as it then ended up being very squeaky bum stuff right up to the final whistle. I was bitterly disappointed a year later when we had spectacularly failed to grasp the opportunity and we slipped straight back down. Robinson was a p*** poor signing and no kind of upgrade on anything we already had and unfortunately Vinnicome, who I believe was a very good signing, got badly injured early on and didn't feature much so that didn't help. We signed Thomson later in the season and again he looked a decent signing, but it was too little too late. I had really, really loved pretty much every minute of our time under Jimmy Mullen, but as relegation became confirmed I became convinced he was now operating out of his depth and that the board were being far too loyal. Some amazing memories though and Wembley '94 (and York) among the best I've ever had watching Burnley and I thank Jimmy for that!

Winstanley ahead of John Pender was one of the more baffling Mullen decisions. Signing Liam Robinson was as already mentioned another one - Steve Davis scored as many league goals that season as Robinson did. In general we struggled for goals that season - Eyres with 8 was our leading scorer in the league. Massive disappointment after returning to Level 2 after a gap of 11 years to only last for1 season.

I took plane from Mauritius to attend this match at Wembley .I remember Stockport had scored the first goal and Burnley scored twice to win promotion to first division so far I remember . I did not know much about Wembley . I accosted a Burnley fan who showed the way where I could purchase my ticket .I was overwhelmed with joy on seeing my beloved Burnley winning .

OMG 25 years it doesn't feel anything like that length of time, great day. When I read the post I got my special edition shirt out and I'm wearing it as I type, do you remember the one yellow, black and white stripes with ' Burnley FC Wembley 1994 Limited Edition all in red lettering, still fits but 25 years wow !!

Bizarrely even though I was only 9 I have more vivid memories from parts of this than 2009! Wembley 88 is my first real memory too!

I remember going on a huge bike ride the day before. Was shattered that night but was too excited. Got sent to bed early and was told it would come round quicker if I slept but I couldn't!

Dont remember the drive down. But remember getting back. And us fans being clapped by people lining the streets. As if we had won the cup!

Remember a flare / smoke bomb going off. First time i had seen such a thing.
Burnley fans moaning about my brother waving a flag.
Randomly bumping into my cousin who had moved down south but happened to be sat next to us.
Remember being nervous when Preece and Francis came on and confused at why they hadn't started.
Remember Wembley seeming huge. But disappointed at how empty half of it was.

Was the peak of my favourite ever era - 1991 - 94!

Don't under stand why you always.say Stockport thought we were rivals.the truth is that both clubs .did not like each over.Stoke fans would say the same.yet after every wembley defeat by county.would hang banners over the motor way bridges.back then battles on and of the pitch.means County fans still dislike both clubs.so it was great to celebrate on Stoke railway station.with Stoke fans coming back .from their game at Millwall ...And just for the record.Burnleys average attendance that season was 11396.so 20 thousand day trippers

Was the green and black shirt our away top for both 93/94 & 94/95? Or just for that promotion season?

Just the promotion season. This is the 94/95 away kit, we turned out in it at Middlesbrough and that was the first time it was revealed, a bit like the white one at Aberdeen last season.
