Re: ARTICLE: Burnley to play six games in a more conventional pre-season
After all the upheaval to pre season plans last year I’m glad we’ve got a boring pre-season.
All local-ish for fans to attend.
Are we really complaining that our friendlies aren’t glamorous enough?
I’d sooner have a Tuesday night game at Fleetwood than them playing Crystal Palace in some Thailand cup.
It’s Burnley, not Barcelona!

No excuses for not taking the League Cup seriously next season then, after a well planned summer without travelling all over Europe.

You don't know what you're missing! No pressure games are great.NottsClaret wrote:Friendlies are the absolute worst. If we lined up Barcelona i’d save my cash for Doncaster away in the League Cup instead.
Any game without pressure is a training session. Haven’t been to one since Jimmy Holland’s testimonial and that was a load of toss too.

We picking you up at Junc 17 or can you find your own way there?Bop wrote:Like Crewe Claret - just down the road for me too. It’ll be a bit cheaper than travelling to Europe but not quite the same experience.

Whatever we do, it's got to be more beneficial than last years pre-season, surely.
Maybe it's a safety issue - you know, once bitten twice shy sort of thing.

Here are the pre-season friendlies for the 2017-18 season, after which we had a great start with some difficult opening fixtures, before finishing seventh.
July 14 – Shamrock Rovers (Tallaght Stadium) July 22 – Kidderminster Harriers July 22 – Alfreton Town July 25 – Preston (Deepdale) July 29 – Nottingham Forest (City Ground) Aug 1 – Celta Vigo (Turf Moor) Aug 5 – Hannover 96 (Turf Moor)

Ground ticks only. Not in the slightest interest in the football unless we have new signings in display. Friendlies are a stress free day out. Never bother with the home ones, unless Ronaldo’s playing of course.

Hardly exciting away games. But as a premier league side we are unlikely to be playing any big clubs. Tour of Scotland or similar would have been nice.
Hopefuly the home games though are a little more Prestigious. Maybe revisit the match with Ajax or even Hamburg / Frankfurt. After Hannover though, doubt we will ever play a team of that ilk. Likely to be La Liga or Ligue 1 club whos fans don't travel.

I think we can say with some confidence that neither will be a German club.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Hardly exciting away games. But as a premier league side we are unlikely to be playing any big clubs. Tour of Scotland or similar would have been nice.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley to play six games in a more conventional pre-season
The purpose of pre-season is to ensure we're fit and firing come the 1st PL game, makes sense to stay local.
Whatever we need to hit the ground running next season,we dodged a bullet last time, but are unlikely to be so fortunate again if we don't come out of the traps strongly.
No EL to concern ourselves with this term so no excuses for Sean to use if results aren't up to scratch.

Its pathetic the level of opposition preparing for a prem league campaign
Your keyword is “preparing”. Two Div 2 sides, one Div 1, one Championship and 2 home games against foreigners, in that order. Is a perfect build up.
I think he might know what he’s doing.

The games are fine for fitness purposes but I was hoping the club might be attracting big offers of visiting far eastern countries for millions of pounds like other premier league clubs do.
Make hay while the sun shines and all that.

I think that requires an invite. I know the Asia Cup does. I'd checked some flights out just in case though.Quickenthetempo wrote:The games are fine for fitness purposes but I was hoping the club might be attracting big offers of visiting far eastern countries for millions of pounds like other premier league clubs do.
