Morgan looks in decent nick LOL,should be aiming for 330-350 from here,200-3 with 15 overs left,Buttler still in reserve if he's needed.

217/4, Morgan out. Buttler and Stokes at the crease now.

Still got Moeen and Rashid to come if required... 330+ looks likely

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
Much will depend on these two but a run a ball now will take us close to 300 so 330+ should be on.Bosscat wrote:Still got Moeen and Rashid to come if required... 330+ looks likely

Moeen gone, 260/6. S.A. Taking some decent catches in the deep. Every time England start to put the foot down, SA take a wicket.

England falling short here by about 40 runs in my opinion. Good death bowling by SA. Slow ball use is very good and has caused frustration.

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
End of innings 311/8. I think they may be about 30 runs short. Anyway, it's up to the bowlers and fielders now. Time for me to take the dog for a walk.
Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
Think South Africa will get this quite cosily no need to break there backs either. Not a bad performance imo by England after the early wicket, just hope we can do the same. But around 300 now good teams like South Africa won’t panic easy reach this for them.

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
It does look a bit short- 325+ needed to be confident I think. SA bowled and fielded pretty well but Bairstow & Butler getting out early subdued the total a bit.
England are still favourites to win with my bookie (4/6) but I think they need a couple of early wickets to breath easier. See how it pans out in the first 10-15 overs; a decent game so far at any rate.

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
Not at all sure SA will get these runs quite easily. As the pundits are saying it's a pitch where if you take the pace off the ball it's difficult to time it properly which might mean anything above 300 is an extremely good score. I was also quite surprised they didn't choose to bat first and that's something else which may prove costly imo.

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
311 on this pitch is defend-able early wickets will be key though,i think people are accustomed to teams running up 350+ nowadays, but sometimes you have to adapt to the conditions, which Stokes did expertly a very mature innings to get England passed 300.

Where's this Archer chap been pace and bounce a West Indian quick would be proud of,hope Amla's not seriously hurt though, that was quick and more importantly accurate.
The wicket wasn't bad either,England might have found a new pin-up boy here.

The oval pitch is know where near as true a pitch with pace and bounce as it used to be.
Medium pace accurate bowling is good enough on here.

That seems to be correct from what I hear. He "benefitted" from a recent change to the England eligibility rules brought about by the ECB apparently because although he's West Indian and I think he was born and brought up there, his dad is English. Our answer to Mitchell Stark just in time for The Ashes later in the summer.TheFamilyCat wrote:His been in the West Indies ironically enough. He’s only just qualified to play for England.
Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
Just seen that channel 4 aren't showing their highlights program until 11pm. At 8pm they've got a repeat of the secret life of the zoo. What is the point of paying for the rights to the highlights and then putting them on at such a stupid time?

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
I think we might need to take some wickets very soon but it’s looking as though it’s going to be a tighter game than I thought at the end of our innings.

At a guess, Sky’s highlights are probably on early evening and C4 won’t be able to air theirs until Sky have.jrgbfc wrote:Just seen that channel 4 aren't showing their highlights program until 11pm. I don’t know much about him but well aware that he is highly rated in 50 and 20 over cricket. Has he played much first class and is he being considered as a test player?Dark Cloud wrote:That seems to be correct from what I hear. Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
From the little I know he's been fast tracked into all the England teams because of his out and out pace. For several years now England have been running the "fast bowler" programme aimed at young lads and looking at finding the next really, really quick pace bowler because it's something we've been lacking when several other teams have had them (Stark being a great example) This guy has suddenly made himself eligible and by passed all of that as well as many other established players and is being hailed as the answer and it's ruffled more than a few feathers I believe. Well we'll see how he develops.TheFamilyCat wrote:I don’t know much about him but well aware that he is highly rated in 50 and 20 over cricket. Wood & Willey certainly took opportunities to whinge to the press about how it might upset the squad (considering it was one of those 2 going to miss out) fortunately the right people are made of stronger stuff and selected him.

Re: England V South Africa ICC World Cup
We've had nobody who can simply bowl out and out quick for ages now. Wood is probably the closest, but still not really world class. The likes of Anderson and Broad, Stoaks, Woaks et al are excellent when the ball is swinging and they have "English conditions" to work with, but when the ball's doing little they're at a pace which is too easy to pick off.

Some of these catches they pull off you wouldn't even attempt 20 years ago.

TBH England have fielded brilliantly all this innings and that's kept pressure on SA right from ball one.
