If you're planning to watch the final on a BT TV or Sky set-top box, you will need to have a BT Sport subscription, while Virgin Media set-top boxes will show the game for free.

If they're letting the Daily Mail report it, I'm not watching it out of solidarity.Rubstuds wrote:BT have announced they are showing the European champions league final free over various formats. Full info on the Daily Mail website.

I bet they are forced to do this. Why would they give away their biggest opportunity to grab subscribers?

Can I be the first to complain about paying a full monthly subscription to BT and then have them screening it FOC?

Really? That seems a strange contract if true. One would think if they have the rights, it counts for every game.Herts Clarets wrote:Contractually they have to show the finals on a free to air format.

Source? I can't see any mention of that anywhere.Herts Clarets wrote:Contractually they have to show the finals on a free to air format.
Re: C.L. final free on BT.
I seem to remember the contract was to show a minimum amount of CL games free to air and also the final.
I remember how when they showed the free to air group games they did their very best to not advertise it whatsoever !

Even though there are 4 english teams in the two Europe finals I can't seem to muster any interest in either of them. 4 teams of mostly foreigenrs representing English football just doesn't appeal. I used to love watching Liverpool, Forest etc. playing in Europe back in the old days when they were mostly british players in the team but it's just not the same now without the national pride bit for me.

Re: C.L. final free on BT.
For me, it was always 10x better when only the Champions entered the Champions League.
In the 90s, when you had the likes of Man U representing the Prem, coming up against Glasgow Rangers, Juventus, Barca, who too were there because they were the best team in their country.
I think more people got behind the team from the Prem because they were the only side representing us.

Cant believe people actually pay for BT and Sky sports channels.
For the time you actually watch them they are fleecing you

People pay because they would prefer to have the Sky coverage of football than they would to have he extra £30 or whatever it is a month. They arent being fleeced they are making a decision. If they decide its no longer worth it they stop.

Re: C.L. final free on BT.
Been said before most people who back the likes of the Murdoch empire through a subscription are mainly responsible for the money extremes associated with Football since the Satellite business started.Reckoner wrote:People pay because they would prefer to have the Sky coverage of football than they would to have he extra £30 or whatever it is a month. Also if at the same time as subscribing they don’t like the cost of football etc then they are also just being hypercritical.

Doesn't that depend on how much time people spend watching them?theroyaldyche wrote:Cant believe people actually pay for BT and Sky sports channels.

Re: C.L. final free on BT.
We have BT, but only because it comes with the internet/phone package, but on occasions it has come in handy tbh. (But not often!) We've also bought Sky temporarily for the next 4 months (£100) so we can watch WC and Ashes cricket over the summer. At times we buy Sky for just five days for a few quid just to watch a test match, but I agree, to have it permanently would be largely a waste of money.
Re: C.L. final free on BT.
Ive no problem with the cost of subscriptions but I do agree this massive revenue should mean the authorities and clubs should do all they can to regulate the cost of attending football which they have to a certain extent with away ticket cap and other initiatives. Many clubs including Burnley have sensible ticket pricing, but some of the prices in London and at other clubs are ridiculous and that is pricing out the real fans and replacing with people without any real attachment.

Re: C.L. final free on BT.
I'm on a decent deal with Sky Sports until October. It's £18.50 a month until then.
For the time I've had this discount, it's been good value, as I also watch the darts, so adding that to the football I wouldn't say it's been a rip-off at all.
It was the broadband which I thought was too expensive, so moved to another supplier.
