I'd not spotted that, just hurriedly looked for a pic from that era.Dougall wrote:Always nice to see Granddad on the site, Tony!

Not sure if it is my computer Tony but the page for the results of the 46/47 season reports back an error, all the other results and league pages work fine.ClaretTony wrote:New pages added on the site for seasons 1946/47 with league tables (division we were in), results (with scorers both for and against) and the programme pages.

Look at the 49/50 season as well, a game on 24th, 26th, 27th and 31st December, could you imagine the likes of Mourinho complaining about fixture congestion in those days

Should be OK now. I decided to replace the word Fixtures with Results on all the pages and I'd missed that one.claretburns wrote:Not sure if it is my computer Tony but the page for the results of the 46/47 season reports back an error, all the other results and league pages work fine.

Re: ARTICLE: Back to the 1940s with Up the Clarets
The league tables looked strange back then with the goal average
Re: ARTICLE: Back to the 1940s with Up the Clarets
Some seriously big attendances for the league games. 69k at City, 61 at Newcastle and 53 at Boro and Liverpool Also noticed 32k at home v Bradford PA

Long before my time, even yours FCBurnley (I think ) but the attendances were massive in the early seasons after the war. Over 49,000 on the Turf for the cup replay against Middlesbrough in 46/47 and played on a Tuesday afternoon. I think that was the match when Lucas's warned anyone who went rather than work would be sacked. They didn't think they could sack a whole load of them so they went and they all were sacked.FCBurnley wrote:Some seriously big attendances for the league games. 69k at City, 61 at Newcastle and 53 at Boro and Liverpool Also noticed 32k at home v Bradford PA

My pride and joy that CT has borrowed for a while and also the club, passed down from my great grandfather who was the club caretaker, and many stories in them from the electric light bulbs to gate receipts to player being thrown from a train. I dont often read books but cant put these down when i start and have read many times, but i think someone who is a collector might benefit from them than more than me reading the stories over and over again.
Re: ARTICLE: Back to the 1940s with Up the Clarets
Not looked at it for typos but posting to congratulate you CT and any others who have laboured away on the site since 2016. The other board included past league tables I think to way back when and it was always good for reference.
Hope this is the start of a repeat performance. Really good to look back to the old days-if there had been 3points for a win in 46-47 we would have been 3rd and not promoted as with goal difference Bir City had a better goal difference and goals scored but the same goal average but we would have been runners up in 1947-48 instead of Man U

Wow, a veritable treasure trove of BFC records there, ClaretAL. You must be a very proud owner of all that handwritten detail, from the very first league game through to the European Cup tie against Rheims in 1960. It must have been a true labour of love by your Great- Grandad over so many years. I had a similar idea back in the 1960's but my patience lasted but a couple of months.
For someone like myself with a passion for the history of our Club reading through the matchday details was something special. He wouldn't have realised it at the time but team details including the likes of George Beel, Bob Kelly and Louis Page and many others that decades later became positive legends of our Club. Also handwritten details of facts unable to be found elsewhere like the remarkable attendance at the Turf in 1948 for a Central League game against Huddersfield of 16,240 !
Take care of them mate, you are one lucky owner.

ClaretAl, please please don't let them go, you in years to come will REGRET IT.
They might go to a good owner now, but they're part of your family and can't be replaced. Hopefully a family member will be glad you will be able to pass them down to them to treasure, like you have.
