I'll be looking at the Goalden Gamble sellers , Rocky et al, in a different light now, given the anti gambling fervour on here.

I was hoping for FUN66, as that's what I will be next season.
I have not got a a lady friend called Bet. The only Bet I have come across is Bet Lynch and she was not my type!
I am not sure they expect UK customers anyway. More for their home market.

Some of us think that betting websites are a bit tragic and in the long term will have a detrimental effect on society, and we certainly don't want to be walking around with "Love Bet" emblazoned across our clothes. So, to some, it clearly does make a difference. You might not have much moral fibre and self esteem, but some of us do.

That looks absolutely class with no sponsor on the front. I'd buy it immediately. However, £55 for any shirt, and one targeted at kids for that matter is bloody outrageous. I sincerely hope that isn't the standard Umbro price point...

I have higher expectations for Burnley FC and it's sad to see the club I love now associated with such scabby, low end stuff. I appreciate it brings in the most money, but I'd have hoped we would be trying to build our reputation and show a bit of class when we have so much other money coming in and are on such a massive global stage. How low would you go? "Love Porn"?

I’ve said my peace on this over and over again. The club lack morals on this. They need to engage with the fans, but quite frankly, they’re choosing to ignore people who challenge them.... brilliant that the supporters clubs are getting involved with making some noise on this.

what grubby bastards we have become, a great game being dictated to by filthy betting companies. approximately 500,000 people with serious gambling problems in the UK, and somehow it fine as long as the cash is available from sponsors.

Unless there is a complete ban on gambling advertising, we would be handicapping ourselves by refusing it. The PL needs to impose a rule, however until it does we would be naive to turn down circa 5m a year

I'd happily have 4 at the club on a night out, couldn't walk past Edwards Butcher's without getting a couple, even if it was post hair cut/dentist.
It had even got to the stage I was denying how many I had been consuming to the wife, and asking my mate to pick me a couple up if he was nipping up there.
Now you might think this is a p1ss take, I can assure you it isn't.

I’ve not bought a shirt since the club decided to promote gambling. I dont care how much the club has benefitted from Fun88, Laba and now this never heard of firm.
An established Premier League club should be able to choose a more responsible sponsor than a gambling firm.

That's kind of my point. If you're addicted to something like that, it would take you an awfully long time to 'lose the farm' wouldn't it? Even in a severe case you might be spending £30 or £40 a week on feeding your addiction.MACCA wrote:During the toughest times of my pie addiction, I was well into double figures a week, wasn't good at all.

With online gambling you can easily spend everything you've got in an instant. You can take out large loans and blow that immediately too. You can lose everything very quickly. Online gambling companies destroy lives, and they don't care.
I'm not angry at our club or anyone elses for taking that money, just sad that it's come to this. The grim reality of modern football.
The league ought to ban any advertising of gambling companies on shirts and in grounds, along with the constant and aggressive advertising on TV before and during matches.
If people want a bet, they know where to go. All they're trying to do is condition people to associate watching football with gambling money.
I hope you've managed to deal with your problems BTW. I'm not trying to downplay anyone's personal battles in any way, I'm just highlighting how online gambling is pretty unique in terms of how quickly it can destroy someone's life.

Online gambling on slots, roulette etc are the crack cocaine/heroin of the gambling world, and that's who these companies target. Offering free spins, free starting cash, where you'll see how easy it is to win, ( and even then they dont pay you out without ridiculous wage requirements etc ) before they strip you of as much as they can.
It's like a drug dealer offering free samples until you're hooked.
Many people play the lotto, buy the odd scratchcard, put on a football coupon etc for fun and stay in control. These companies that describe themselves as "online casinos" are the worst of the worst.
I hope like the bookies have been forced too, they also get a stake cap, where you cant lose £1,000's in seconds over and over again.

LOVEBET, the official shirt sponsor 2016 Burnley....
Re: New Shirt Sponsor
I’ve got quite a few mates and family members who like to gamble, to varying degrees, and I have no doubt a few them have a serious problem with it.
I’ve seen two good friends plow thousands into machines on a night out, and when I’ve tried to pull them away and tell them to leave it, they’ve almost turned on me.
I’m not happy about us having such a sponsor, but it is what it is. I accept the club want to make as much money as possible from sponsorship.
I won’t buy a shirt with ‘Love Bet’ emblazoned across the front, and I know the club don’t really give a cr@p, but in my mind, it’s two fingers up at an industry that destroys lives.

Betting companies are no worse than media apps. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter do just as much damage as online betting sites. People need to take responsibility for their own actions otherwise we might as well ban everything that's addictive.

Do these people subscribe to sky? Who run betting adverts every five mins with offers of free bets etc, far more likely to entice someone to bet than a football shirt. They probably put more money in skys coffers than if they bought a season ticket at turf moor, and wouldnt be tempted by the free bets

Burnley does not have to conduct itself in the same way as Sky or ITV. It’s much easier for the club to look for an alternative sponsor as even if we ended up with a few hundred grand a year less it’s still a fraction of our overall income - if Luton can afford to do it i’m sure we can.
Yes the likes of Sky and ITV push it down our throat a lot more than Burnley but that does not mean as a club we should not take a stance - if more clubs started to do this then eventually the regulator and advertising standards might sit up and do more to restrict the way these companies advertise and just like tobacco advertising eventually it might stop all together.
Just because there are worse offenders than us does not make it right for us to take commercial advantage of this - when there is proven evidence of the damage advertising does to increasing gambling addiction. It ruins a hell of a lot of lives and as a club we do not need that money.

Yes its their prerogative, but it weakens their argument when they subscribe to other companies who promote betting. Its like a vegetarian eating meat every now and again, the argument is somewhat diluted.
Re: New Shirt Sponsor
I think if the club is going to keep banging the drum of "together", and "our town our club", slogans etc then reading the majority of fans reaction and also the fact that the supporters clubs have advised then that fans are against this kind sponsorship, then presumably the slogan needs to be our club available to the highest bidder sod the fans.

Comparing it to a vegetarian does not make sense - it is better to take a stance against something than nothing if that is what you believe in. If you took your analogy further you could say they should not have a TV or license as TV manufacturers are allowing Sky to broadcast on their TVs.
If you decide to stop your sky subscription in protest of advertising gambling - great.
If you decide to stop going on to support your team - great.
If you decide to protest in any other way - still great

Of course you are, but as you aren't playing for Burnley you don't have to wear their shirt. There are far sexier sponsors out there you will look better in or you could wear the kit of the team you play for who more than likely won't have a sponsor.
