Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
Are they expecting a big crowd down there on Friday?
Or do the big crowds only watch at Lowerhouse?
I might pop down and take the game in as a neutral.

Forecast looks bad so hopefully that changes. Doubt the house will bring many with the run off form they are on.

Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
BBC weather forecast indeed looking very poor for Friday evening, which is a shame. New Aussie pro, is Jim Allenby has good pedigree and should do well at this level. First player to take 4 wickets in 4 balls in a 20/20 match (v Lancashire in 2008).
Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
I'm planning to go on the Horsfield to watch Colne Friday but the weather forecast looks awful.
Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
It's the night out, food & drinks and surroundings/weather that pulls most of the neutral crowd IMO. I know a lot of neutrals go down lowerhouse purely for that, the cricket is secondary.
Burnley is poor all cramped together in that poor seating area, can't have a stroll or a different view, and never seems much going on.

Are you saying not many house fans know much about cricket? And only go down for the band and quid a can bar?MACCA wrote:It's the night out, food & drinks and surroundings/weather that pulls most of the neutral crowd IMO. Ha Ha Ha , this isn't Padiham in the pie and pea league. I meant lots of women and kids go on for the whole day and all what they offer. The nearest thing we've got round here regards modern day cricket for modern day people. I know of many who wouldn't dream of having a "day out" down at the Turf as it is anything but a day out that caters for many.Quickenthetempo wrote:Are you saying not many house fans know much about cricket? Burnley cricket club fans might be the same Burnley football fans, those who look at the fixture list and say "******** to paying to go on against teams like Fulham & Palace" the cricket fans might think it is only Lowerhouse and do something else with their evening.
Or they could turn up and sing "all out in your cup final"

Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
The difference is that unless you are a Burnley or Lowerhouse CC follower you wouldn’t know there was a game at Burnley this Friday night.
If the game was at Lowerhouse social media would be awash with information, competitions etc telling people there is a game. Money is paid for Facebook adverts etc.
Some people find it annoying and it’s often thrown back in the clubs face when a game is lost etc, such as some comments seen on here and other platforms in recent days about “at least they will have a bonfire to make money” “Lowerhouse think everything of theirs is the best” etc but it will carry on as unless you tell folk what’s going on they won’t turn up!

Burnley prefer to the talking on the pitch rather than gobbling off on social media after a defeat. All this one team in Burnley ******** 95 percent off the lowerhouse fanbase hadn't heard off the "ouse" till 2004

Why are Burnley CC fans so bitter only Shappy who is any fun. Maybe because the House went to Old Trafford at their expense and beat them in the Worsley Cup Final ,still finding discarded runners up trophies all around the West End. Anyway keep watching your imported all stars and remember OOTIB.

Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
My comments above were about club and event promotion rather than the actual cricket, but to be fair, we've had our share of success in recent years so we can't be doing too much wrong.
Personally, I find the comments from Colne fans most laughable.
They might want to ask their chairman which club was first to offer help and financial support when they were staring down the barrel of going bust, who donated gate receipts from T20 games and who provided them with advice how to organise their bonfire and other events plus who they turn to when they are looking for junior coaches etc. Seems that a few weeks of "success" have made a couple on here get a little carried away.

Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
You can smell the stench of jealousy over the crowds Lowerhouse get. As has been said it is only about good marketing and having nicer surroundings helps a lot. The facilities are not particularly celubrious but the setting is. Once you get a large group of people together the atmosphere becomes enjoyable too and so it snowballs.
Burnley seem happy to sit back with a meagre crowd all watching more or less in one stand. Happy to reap in the money from the football home games. That is fine as they don't need any extra money but it doesn't help the cricket experience any on a match day.
Having said that the decison to chop all the trees down on one side of the ground was odd. Rotten trees? Looking at the stumps left they don't look rotten. The timing poor too with the new builders merchants looming on one side. You would think they would keep the trees to hide it.
Lowerhouse are going through a crisis of confidence at the moment. Trying too hard and often snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Last week against Leyland being a prime example. Last season the potential was harnassed. They will refind it soon i'm sure. One of the quality teams ability wise. No coincidence that many of the other captains tipped Lowerhouse to be challenging. They still may do as it is wide open this season. The league restructuring has made it a hell of a lot more competitive.

The stumps of those trees don't tell the whole story. Trust me, if we could have avoided spending circa £3k on tree surgery we would have done.
Just one of those things and given time that area of the ground will be sorted out properly and become a bit of a feature.

Will take some real work digging up the roots from those trees and removing the stumps. Don't envy anyone doing that. How much of that land is actually ours though? Where is the boundary? Bottom of the slope?arise_sir_charge wrote:The stumps of those trees don't tell the whole story. Trust me, if we could have avoided spending circa £3k on tree surgery we would have done.

The boundary is around the bottom of the slope, yes. There are already a hundred or so conifers planted at the top end of the slope.Somethingfishy wrote:Will take some real work digging up the roots from those trees and removing the stumps. We have a few plans to try and make use of the space at the bottom so will see what we can do with it all. A cantilever stand with the much loved 'safe standing' has been proposed but I prefer a 50m length hot tub and beach with palm trees.

Burnley have had a 5k budget for a coach/opening batsman role for at least 15 years that I know of.

Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
As you already know Zizkov, I do most of the social media and all of the website for the club. I do it for a reason, it makes a real difference certainly in footfall on the ground. Facebook events and spreading the word on twitter certainly makes a difference. I do it as it’s my chance to give back to the club (and no, I’m not paid and never would want to be).ZizkovClaret wrote:Fact is Lowerhouse don't happen to have the footfall that being next door to Turf Moor gives Burnley CC so they market themselves more
Agree that some people don’t like it and throw it back at us when we’ve lost, but if we do lose I’ll take having 1200 people on the ground spending money at the bar, rather than one man and his dog.

Not looking great for the replayed Worsley cup games tomorrow either! If no cricket is played will they be some kind of bowl off to decide who goes through?
Re: Burnley Vs Lowerhouse 20/20
My guess would be to play the second round games on 3rd round day (15th June) and then the 3rd round games on 3rd round replay date 22nd June. But it is only a guess.jrgbfc wrote:Not looking great for the replayed Worsley cup games tomorrow either! If no cricket is played will they be some kind of bowl off to decide who goes through?
FWIW, the forecast for next weekend is pretty good.
