Dan Black on twitter:
Of all the players we’ve been linked with over the summer, this is actually one that I haven’t really seen do the rounds. Burnley favourites with SkyBet to land Phil Jagielka. Makes a lot of sense, given he’d be a freebie and wages wouldn’t be a stumbling block.

I think someone at Burnley thought he'd fit in with our Irish contingent, being called Lucas O'Campos :)

Daily Mail reporting that Jagielka is training with Burnley as he searches for a new club.

"Sportsmail understands that the agreement is a generous act from Sean Dyche to help the player, rather than an opportunity for Jagielka, 36, to land himself a move to Turf Moor."

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... -club.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So can all the bedwetters who are convinced we're selling Tarkowski and/or Gibson and replacing him with Jagielka please chill the flip out and wait until the window closes before judging Dyche and the board 's transfer dealings.

But the bed wetters are waiting for

Burnley sign Jagielka, and here's what Sean Dyche had to say on today's signing.

"After letting Phil train with us, we saw what a good professional he really is, and that he still has s lot to offer. We had a chat and it was clear he still has that hunger, that competive edge, and has fitted straight into the group, so it was a no brainer really to bring him in.
Players with the experience Phil has dont come around very often"

After a flutter with a 39 year old and possibly with a 37 year old now slowcoach, how on earth can anyone think Jay is too old. He's the perfect forward for us.

If only there were 5 weeks or so left of the window where we could bring someone in.

That being said any new players now won't be able to ever get fit enough to play next season as they have missed some of Sean Dyche's miracle training.

Other teams are signing players who we should have signed because they have foreign names or cost a lot of money so must be good.

I need a lie down it's all getting a bit too much for me!

Don't worry we will have Defour, Brady and Lennon back to full fitness, Wells back from loan and Vydra, Gibson hapy to stay so that's like 6 new signings. We don't need any more :)

I think we all know how this will play out. Tarks will be sold after Maguire is let go for silly money, and by some miracle, we'll have a cheap, ready made replacement in the building.

The notion that the more seasons they spend in the top flight the better prepared Burnley will be to compete on wages and transfer fees was always a false one.

I think it’s a sensible approach to build up something of a defence against relegation, in terms of money in the coffers.

It’s at what point we decide we’ve enough and can stretch it all a bit further. And, will signings be prepared to accept a decent wage but with a chunk payable upon survival? That’s the right approach to me but it doesn’t mean it’s right for a potential signing.

Yet another who is willing to stand up and say that the people running Burnley FC are doing a rotten job.

What do you want from the club? When did you reach a time of life when you thought that Burnley should be doing better than Premier League football and occasional Europe?

Leicester fee agreed for Perez I see. Quality business from Newcastle if they were actually willing to reinvest the fee, which hopefully, they won’t.

I want signings and I want them now!

On a serious note. It's been the same every year for at least 3 years (signings needed) my post was tongue in cheek but my faith in us getting the players required in diminishes by the year.

You either accept that the careful approach will eventually lead to relegation but we will have safeguarded the club. To get to the next level from where we are we would need different ownership.

My concern in building money up is the market isn't showing any sign of slowing down so by the time we do go down will that money just see us surviving, rather than having the edge with funds in the bank to actually compete. We need young hungry players to complement what is now a very experienced squad, for that you need to pay and invest. I'd much rather be doing that now rather than looking over our shoulders and reacting with the 'reserve funds' if we drop, which we almost certainly will without propper investment now.

Building a bigger scouting team and expand abroad would be seen as progression in my eyes but it's something we have made noises about but no progress ever seems to be made.

Leeds in advanced talks for Helda Costa at wolves
A player who would improve us. Not a dyche player probably

He wouldn’t improve us. He’s been poor for the last 2 seasons. Lost his confidence and a lot of Wolves fans are happy to see him leave.

Regardless of the approach will be relegated at some point, clubs of our size don't have a long PL shelf life (as history tells us Bolton, Wigan, Stoke WBA etc)

Bang on.

Purchased for €3M, sold for £30M for a player scoring worse than a goal every 3.5 games in the Prem.

Seems to be the market these days!!!!

We will see if progress has been made when this window & the next ends, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt till then. If no players are signed on the back of the new scouting module (particularly from abroad),then either it's not bringing the results Mike Rigg expects or either SD or the board is rejecting the players that have been found with it.
That's the time to question the system I'd have thought.

How did Eddie Howe manage to sign promising youngsters like Trippier, Ben Mee and Ings then, with nowhere near the resources we have now?

It has to be this window that we recruit some quality, if we don't then I think this is the season that we'll really struggle. I don't think any Manager likes the Jan window, otherwise known as the "panick window".

Same way Dyche managed to sign Pope, JBG, Keane, Tarks etc for hardly any money.
And let’s not forget that as grateful as we should be to Howe for some great signings it’s Dyche who got them playing and turned them into winners.

"Not been a queue of Premier League clubs interested"

If there had been he would never have made it to Burnley anyway since we cannot compete with the wages being offered.

Perhaps we need to be lowering our sights a bit but not quite as low as Crouch and Jagielka. 8-)

It says a lot about our transfer policy when the biggest discussions are about Crouch retiring, Jagielka training with us and Defour back to being fit.

It's Dyche's masterplan.

Get expectations so low that when he signs Fekir for £30m, he will be worshipped.

Maupay not worth it. Is neither particularly fast nor strong. Would cost a bomb as well. Better to just keep Vydra at this level.

No, it means he just inadvertently let slip the next planned stage of infrastructure improvements for the Turf.

If we want to attract more players looking to see out their final playing days in comfort we need to invest in upholstery to set us apart from other clubs.

Southampton the bookies favourites to sign Jarrod Bowen. Would not say no to him whatsoever

So that's Che Adams and Jarrod Bowen we've been linked with who've ended up at St Mary's,credit to Southampton they are targeting young hungry players who they can improve.

And possibly in a year or two sell on for profit, and then re-invest again.

I'm struggling to see what our strategy is we don't appear to have many irons in the fire, questions must be asked of Mike Rigg.

And either side of those seasons we were unbelievably poor for half of them. We had a great 2017 where everything clicked. We took risks we didn't need to take (going into a season with 3 centre backs spring to mind), we didn't reinforce last season and wasn't far off going down (did you really think we would stay up on boxing Day?) And unbelievably yet again we seem to be dithering about.
