I think Boysie over egged it saying 6 windows as the 2017 summer window was a good one as was a few before that. If we dont get anyone else this window I think its fair to say at best we've stood still for 4 windows and are only surviving through Dyche's brilliance at getting the best out of a poorish squadGodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Of course we do, but your statement about successive transfer windows was utter rubbish and you know it was.

The team has evolved at a rate that's resulted in minimal disruption pretty much.
Some people are never going to be happy with what the club does, not even a little bit, but they clearly can't see the way the team evolves or they're just miserable people.
Injuries last season was an issue with Defour, again, being out and Pope, with Heaton only just over his and Brady taking longer than expected to get back.
We can't just go out and several other players because we have a limited squad size.
Yeah I think some players need moving on, but I'll trust the club to do it in the right way and at the time they consider to be right.

Yes I would say by Premier League standards we are a poor squad i.e. bottom 5 or 6. I doubt many of the other managers in the league would keep our squad up and its only cos Dyche is so strong in that area that a club our size with our budget is able to survive there for so longQuicknick wrote:Poorish squad?!

A few years ago, I would have said we were a poor squad (especially the promotion season in 2014), but I would say we have average PL players.

Poor is a bit strong as my original post said poorish meaning a bit below average. I can see your point but I disagree I think its Dyche's management skills that lifts us to looking average and on a par with the clubs between 10th-17thAshevilleNCClaret wrote:Talent-wise, I don't think there is a huge difference between 10-17th. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Player identification and recruitment, including negotiations with agents and other clubs, are a big part of any Technical Directors brief. Obviously ( or thankfully ) Rigg doesn't have a singular over riding influence on signing or selling players, but he certainly does play a key part in the process.ClaretTony wrote:He’s busy in goal for Preston but if you mean Rigg, I was never aware that his brief was to get deals sorted.

BURNLEY co-owner Brendan Flood says the club are bringing in a Technical Director primarily to improve their overseas recruitment.
However, Flood told TGG: “Sean realises that ultimately he can’t do everything”.
Ian Butterworth joined in January 2017 to head up European recruitment, but the new Technical Director will oversee the entire department, as well as the Academy, medical and sports science.
According to what I've read the process of identifying and recruiting players works as follows -
Sean starts the ball rolling by communicating what he thinks the squad needs. Rigg puts together a list of options ( 10 players for each position in 4 key playing groups for a total of 440 players ).
Sean can then choose from the options he is given.
If a player is considered a good candidate Mike goes to Garlick to see if the financial considerations associated with a player are acceptable and if they are the club moves forward to the negotiation stage.
Sean and Garlick are fully involved in the process and either of them can say yes or no to any of the player options they are presented with, but the key architect in the formation of those options is Mike Rigg.

The Sporting Director role best describes someone who has overall responsibility for the performance of various sporting departments within a club. The Sporting Director role is to deliver a strategic plan and operate as a custodian of the club

Unfortunately our defence had zero confidence in him so they didn't perform to the usual standards Dyche expects.
Any other time it should've worked out well and stats wise he wasn't even that terrible.
Not every transfer will instantly improve the first 11.

The way our defence shaped before Xmas, Hart would have had zero confidence in them, and the midfield no better.
We only started playing like Dyches Burnley in the 2nd half of the season by putting blocks in at the edge of the box.
Hart or anyother goal keeper would have been on a hiding to nothing playing behind that shower

At best we've stood still the last year or two. We wasted a golden opportunity to strengthen after finishing 7th and qualifying for Europe. We stumbled across McNeil almost by accident, and we'll probably end up starting this season with the identical starting XI that finished last season.

We didn’t stumble across McNeil by accident but there !s little doubt he wouldn’t have had the game time he did if it wasn’t for Lennon’s injury. That was the the bit of luck/chance/accident or whatever that massively contributed to our change in fortunes

The injury to Lennon gave him his big chance. In the same way that an injury to Heaton gave Pope his break. There’s nothing flukey about it. McNeill was obviously in Dyche’s plans. If it wasn't for an injury crisis he'd still be rotting in the under 23s. Not a chance Dyche would ever throw a kid in ahead of an experienced pro.Rileybobs wrote:It's totally ridiculous to suggest that we stumbled across McNeill almost by accident.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
He was promoted to the first team at the beginning of the season. We could have signed a more experienced pro to start the season in his place but we didn’t. Dyche decided he was good enough to make the first team squad and was trusted to be thrown in at the deep end. So your prediction doesn’t really have any merit.jrgbfc wrote:If it wasn't for an injury crisis he'd still be rotting in the under 23s. The fact that it took an injury to Lennon to give McNeill his big break is neither here nor there. Players generally get their chance through lack of form or an injury to one of their team mates.
