All signed by Dyche towards the end of transfer windows.

Not sure how much more relevant he'd need to get tbh

Yeah, but how many successful signings has Dyche ever made in the last week of the summer transfer window in 2019?

I see I've taught you a new word. I don't have a narrative, I'm just presenting facts and using those facts to inform my opinion that it's highly likely we'll make a signing before the window closes. I haven't expressed an opinion on the quality of signing(s), but based on SD's record over his time here I think it's more likely to be successful than unsuccessful.

As Sid says, of course the signings I mentioned are relevant.

Looking back over five years is also a far more representative sample size than just the last two.

What is it about recent signings that makes them more relevant?

Sean Dyche in tonight’s programme: “The intention is to add to the squad before the deadline, but, as ever, the demands of the market and our structure mean that is a tough task”

From Chris Boden.

It's getting fairly close to the deadline now, fingers crossed.

Yep and we all know what could happen if he signed. Nothing against Gary, but Tarks ismassive forthe massive for us. Or maybe its Gibbo that would leave.

If Cahill signs for us then Tarks will go to Leicester to replace Maguire.

If we are losing Tom then the last thing we want to be doing is selling Tarky imo

My bet is that he is Gibson's replacement and would be prepared to fight for a slot. But if Leicester offer £40m+ for Tarks it could be we keep Gibson.

You've got to feel a bit sorry for Gibson. A last minute/panic signing who we didn't really need and whether he was a bit naive and didn't look properly at the situation or whether he was promised stuff which was never feasible obviously we don't know, but he's a good player and he's barely had any game time in a year. He must be p'd off and if we then sign Cahill he'll probably be incandescent.

Sky Sports reporting a similar thing now, in regards of Tarks.

"
CAHILL PLAYING WAITING GAME
Gary Cahill’s future could depend on whether Manchester United’s lengthy pursuit of Harry Maguire is a success.
Maguire’s move to United would likely prompt a bid from Leicester for Burnley’s James Tarkowski – although Leicester may baulk at the £50m release clause in his contract.
If a deal for Tarkowski to move to the King Power is agreed before next Thursday’s deadline, that would then prompt Burnley to move for 33-year old Cahill, who is available on a free transfer. "

Hope we don't end up losing Tarkowski regardless of whether we bring Cahill back or not.

Not sure why we’d need him though if Hart and Pope are both staying unless he’s the next one in the pipeline and he’s loaned out for a season.

Because despite being accused of short termism by some on here the club are succession planning. That’s why we have a great keeper like Pope to step into Heaton’s shoes, why we had Tarkowski to replace Keane, Taylor for Ward. We bring in players not necessarily for the first team today but in one or two years time.

All in favour of signing Peacock-Farrell as a third choice keeper, to work with Billy Mercer and improve, and potentially compete for a first choice role in due course.

Hopefully, we've got a similar plan in mind in time for the right back and midfield slots, because whilst the urgency of succession planning for us has been long over-stated, it is something that we've not done too much of in the last 18 months.

That’s what I alluded to in the first post FF quoted. I’d be surprised if he was happy to join as third choice (assuming Pope & Hart are 1 & 2) which is why I mooted loaning him out.

Well when you don't quote anyone and claim the "SQUAD" will be made up of journeymen, maybe I should have realised you were replying to someone and you only meant 1 player not the squad, despite you claiming it would be the squad.

My misunderstanding

We used to and it worked a treat. The problem is we stopped a year ago especially re Defour and Cork and now we appear to be at the mercy of the market for what we need in cm. The most likely outcome now is we won't buy.

Hope it's true about 50m release clause for Tarks. That would be prudent planning. I would gutted to lose him but 50m would be amazing and pointless if we can't replace him on time.

Imagine 60m coming in in a week and only spending 2m on a 3rd choice keeper plus a signing on fee for Gary and not getting anyone in cm
