Taking Nixons titbit into account and the way we do things we are probably looking at a domestic player. Somebody like Josh Brownhill from Bristol City, although that would be a bit barmy at this stage in the window.
They sold Lloyd Kelly for 15m and brought in Jay Dasilva as a replacement left back, who is arguably just as good, for 2.5m. Then they spent the rest on some other interesting Chelsea youngsters/players including the recent arrival of Kasey Palmer.
If things pan out with Webster it will add another 20m to their coffers. That will leave them looking for a striker and a replacement for Webster. Throw another midfielder in the mix, or not, and they will have pots of cash and no real need to sell. So they could play on the fact that we need a midfielder, and might not have many options, to bleed us dry as the clock ticks down.
It would seem to fit with Nixons " money may talk in the end " post. I can't think of anyone else remotely suitable on the domestic front that would involve a chain of events or a reluctant sale and paying over the odds.
Heaton leaving won't help our cause in the final days of the window, because any potential target is obviously going to ask " if it is so good at Burnley why did your Captain and Talisman just up sticks and move to a rival ". His transfer might have inadvertently sent out the wrong message at the worst possible time.
More worryingly it could send some slight ripples through our squad " our Captain has just left the ship, because he sees a better future for himself elsewhere, so what am I still doing here ". The big problem with losing a respected leader is that others are likely to follow in due course. At the very least it will be unsettling. We saw the impact his return to the team had so his departure is likely to impart an equal and opposite reaction until people adjust to his absence.
Edit: Sorry, scrap the Brownhill guess, he is far to young.

Might Nixon's mystery midfielder be Mooy? Their new chairman has said it would need "seriously big bids" which match HTAFC's valuation to persuade to sell.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I've often wondered if Mooy could work for Burnley.
If we were to sign him, there can't be many teams with two Aarons playing for them (someone will probably show that we are the only team that doesn't have two Aarons!).

Mooy was such an obvious target for us, surprising if we aren’t interested. He would suit us perfectly. Whether he is a big upgrade on Cork is questionable, but he’s at the very least very good competition.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Mooy is a sensible and realistic target.
If the clubs who could more easily afford him were seriously interested you sense they would have made their move by now. For a team that got relegated so comprehensively there were some good individuals in Huddersfield's squad. Proven to be capable at PL level on not a huge cultural transition for him if he were to cross the Pennines.
Most importantly he compliments what we currently have rather than being a 'marquee' signing, so not a nailed-on starter but more than capable of easing the workload so that we're not obliged to play Cork, who at times looked out on on his feet, for the full 90 week-in week-out.
More than happy if this is how we choose to spend the transfer surplus.
