Shock horror he’s already being written off even before he’s signed. Thank god he’s not Irish and we are trying to loan him from Stoke.
Blimey imagine deciding a 29 year old title winning midfielder who 2 years ago was in the England squad isn’t going to be good enough for us!?

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I would rather sign a potentially slightly rusty Drinkwater on loan than spend £18-20m + Vydra on Phillips (who may well prove not good enough for this league, like so many others).
Drinkwater might take a couple more weeks than the others to shake off pre-season but when he is up to scratch we would have markedly improved upon both Westwood and Cork, which is surely everyone's hope?

Why is stuff just made up on here ?
Expressing concern about the fact that nobody has seen him kick a ball for 2 years and whether he has match sharpness / still as good as he was etc seems pretty logical to me....more logical than expecting he will be as good as he was at Leicester.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
As long as he'd had a pre-season I'm not sure why he'd be any less match sharp than the rest. Our players haven't played a Premier League game for nearly three months, I suspect sharpness drops pretty fast in that time and you're unlikely to be much ahead of someone who hasn't played for two years.TVC15 wrote:Who has written him off ?

A few people have mentioned Drinkwater hasn't played for two years. Not trying to be pedantic but he played fairly regularly for Chelsea late 2017 and early 2018. So it's really a year and a half if that helps

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I suggested Drinkwater might have been a worthwhile loan back in the Christmas window, even at those wages as we gambled with PL survival; thankfully McNeil and Westwood emerged instead.
If I’m not mistaken we were linked with him before Leicester had their title winning campaign (possibly by lazy journalists), a move back to the North West might suit him more than, say, a Camarasa type.
Hard to imagine how we’d consolidate the wages part of the deal but it will depend on how much he wants to play football.

Just to qualify my earlier comment, Just seen on Twitter from Bodes that Dyche knows Drinkwater from a spell at Watford when Dyche was assistant to malky mackay (remember him?). You’d hope such things make a difference, still the issue of a considerable wage adjustment !

I would say we are raising the bar with attention turning to such players as Drinkwater. There's a mix of views, and we're all entitled to them, but he would surely be welcomed with open arms. Regardless of our recent history, we still have an element among us who want to pick holes in everything we do.
If players such as Drinkwater are not adequate for us, then how on earth did some of you cope when we were signing the likes of Lee Howey?

Danny Drinkwater is 29. Would I rather we went for Phillps? Of course I would. However, the idea that he’d be finished at 29 is ridiculous, and he’s still an upgrade on what we have surely.

Oh no it's not, for a young lad to get a game alongside a player with Jones' experience and quality, could be a hell of a help in his development. Never underestimate what a young player can gain from that.jrgbfc wrote:Its David Jones we're talking about, not Andrea Pirlo. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wonder if there is anything in the Abdoulaye Touré rumours? Plenty of sources in France saying we are still very keen with suggestions Nantes will only want £10-11m for him. Apparent interest in Germany but he seems keen on a move to the Premier League. At 25 and Nantes player of the season he sounds a good bet.

Is this the same Danny Drinkwater that has played an active part in Chelsea's pre-season games including 20 odd minutes in a 2-1 win over Barcelona?
If it's that one then he will be fine.
If it's the one that hasn't kicked a ball for 2 years then perhaps not.

My comment was that he would be a great signing if we got the player he was at Leicester (and not just the title winning season as he was a very good player before that). How many times have we heard managers like Dyche say that whilst players can look fit in training you can’t tell how sharp or ready they are until they play competitive games ? Yet plenty on here seem to think it’s ok for him just to have trained for the last 18 months / 2 years.
If Dyche thinks he can regain his old form that’s good enough for me...we need a central midfielder so great if we get one that he wants.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The wage is not an issue for me if it's a season loan .... £100k a week, so £400k roughly per month - 10 months x £400k = 4m for a season.
Considering you would be paying a good 20m for a younger player of the same quality which would average out at 5m over a 4 year contract and wages on top, I see it as good value.
The down sides are that there is no profit to be made on a future sale like you would potentially get on a purchase and also keeping the players happy who are on a lower wage, although with signing on fees and other clever financial tactics, that can be negated.

Bare in mind in addition to covering his wages for around £4m for the season, Chelsea would probably want a loan fee as well.
I would bet it would cost about £10m all in for the season to sign Drinkwater on loan. In the absence of signing anyone else I think it's worth it, personally.

If we're replacing one of our starting eleven with a loan player we should be looking at replacing them with someone permanently.
Astronomical wages will surely create some issues amongst the other senior players. Can't see this happening myself.
If he came on a 3 year deal on 45k a week then yes. But as it is, I feel his wages are just too much.
