Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If signing Pépé 2 years ago for £15m was a “no brainier” why do you think nobody else in the premier league did it ?
We aren’t restricting ourselves to 2 divisions - we have looked abroad in the last few windows but not managed to get any over the line other than Defour - and tbh as much as I love him as a player that transfer has not worked out too well for us...probably going to end up costing us about £400k an appearance if we don’t see him in a claret shirt again.
At the end of the day the market is clearly very difficult here and abroad - look at the amount Newcastle paid for their new centre forward. £40m for a player who had done what so far ?
Look at what Brighton just paid for a centre back who has never played in the top league.
Look at these guys that Villa have signed - how many has anyone genuinely ever heard of or seen play ?
Look at the money wasted by West Ham
The market has gone beyond crazy - we can afford to make a couple of £10m mistakes but how many £25m mistakes could we afford ?
It’s hardly any wonder we air on the cautious side when trying to bring in players.
It’s those expensive mistakes on big marquee type signings that got Swansea relegated...Stoke....Fulham etc.

To be fair an actual update and discussion thread about a potential incoming player might be preferable to a petty, dick measuring argument thread that the transfer speculation one has become.

He's 1/6 on Oddschecker to join Burnley. Next in the runnung is Norwich at 8/1 so best indication yet that this could happen although we all know odds don't mean that much.martin_p wrote:What updates are you expecting at this time of night?

Re: Danny Drinkwater
Would be fantastic to see a midfield pair of Drinkwater and Westwood.
I wonder how realistic a proposition it is though, with the gargantuan wages he's on. Could upset a few apple carts?

Re: Danny Drinkwater
Any idea how a deal like this could be structured?
Rumoured to be on £100k/w and our cap is say £50k/w so would we expect parent club to make up the deficit for the year as Hart deal was believed to be subsidised?
Sure he cost Chelsea £30m 2 years ago but would we be after an option after one year? If a signing like this had a loan year surpassing all expectations and BFC had cash to make permanent would we rely on signing dropping into wage structure or would we promise to match?

I'm not suggesting we do what any of those clubs are doing, they are almost throwing darts at it and hoping one sticks.
Pepe was a standout years ago, I've no idea why nobody took a chance on him and to me they will be proven very foolish for not doing so.
Maybe watch some of the foreign leagues this season (not just the odd game) and you will see there are players we could comfortably afford that would walk into our midfield.
You want me to make a list of the players Dyche has signed that haven't worked out ? It happens
edit: I will add we were linked with a bid for Ajax's Ziyech a couple of years ago so we must be looking

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The need for us to invest in a good foreign scouting network is massive. We already know that Dyche likes to do his homework on players and signs them based on there character as well as ability. I'm not sure how you can scout someone's character or attitude by watching them in games but this is the element we need to work on in the foreign market, maybe through gaining links with foreign clubs?
If we can find the mix of character and quality overseas then I think we'll find some bargains.
While I feel Rigg was a step in the right direction, I feel he needs a better set up below him to succeed in the foreign market with us.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
Burnley will not pay DD 100k... i would be surprised if they hit 50k per week on a loan. That's still 2.5 million for the year. Also aren't West Ham now in the running? It reminds me of the Snodgrass situation.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
The transfer news thread is a farce, would be much better to have a new thread for each player linked. It's not like there have been loads.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
I suspect Brighton could. Reports that they've just made a £30m bid for a player from Belgium, so they've got a bit of brass down theretiger76 wrote:Wages could be an issue that's true, depends how much the lad wants to play football i guess, just had a quick Google, and Burnley,Brighton,Norwich and bizarrely Galatasaray are mentioned as interested parties for loan moves.

My post was in response to the person who thinks there are players out there better than our first team squad who will play for under £30k a week. There are plenty who aren't as good that we could sign, like Vydra, Gibson, Wells etc but the we get people moaning that we're wasting money (the same ones who moan that we can't sign anyone good enough).
There probably are such players, but if they're good enough to replace players in our first team (that have proven they're good enough for PL football), other clubs will probably know about them and be prepared to offer them more. They won't play for £30k a week if they can get £31k somewhere else.Sproggy wrote:
There are no players anywhere in the world that will play for £30k a week in the Premier League that will improve our first team. Well, it's certainly a tough market.
That's the reality of the market.
It's also not very cost effective to add £30k a week to our wage bill for what would probably be a marginal upgrade.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Why do folk complain when SD states that trying to land targets is difficult but are seemingly oblivious when other managers say the same thing. Pep is on record just recently saying the same thing. Have you noticed how busy Watford have been, close to London, just had a great season. Spurs last season. BFC and SD are not the only ones struggling.

How many Spanish players do you see playing for teams outside the top 6 in England?
Not many and the reason is they need the best part of 100k a week to leave the sunshine...irrespective of what they earn at Sevilla.
