I never said that I knew we weren’t in for him.
Just that the combination of the reported fee and my assumption on his wages feels like it shouldn’t have been an unrealistic target for us.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Quite simply because we couldn’t pay his wages. It’s ok being able to buy a player but if the other club can afford to p!ss away £75k/week on wages for him to be on the bench we can’t compete with that.Father Jack wrote:Ill say it again on the thread because it’s probably been lost in all of the bickering but James McCarthy at £3m is something we could have done in our finance structure. So a player who has been loaned from the PL to the Championship would be perfect for us?Steddyman wrote:Just been looking through the list of players signed by Championship clubs. How did Knockaert sign for Fulham on a Free? He would have been perfect for us.
Not for me. Would they loan him to a rival? Doubtful. Would he move N. of London? Who knows but widemen is not a necessity. CM is.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Mc Carthy has a chronic injury record.
You want us to pay £75 k a week for an injury prone played??

Man City do not struggle in the transfer market. Whatever Pep says.Darnhill Claret wrote:Why do folk complain when SD states that trying to land targets is difficult but are seemingly oblivious when other managers say the same thing. BFC and SD are not the only ones struggling.

People fail to grasp that we’re a highly unfashionable somewhat unattractive club that has few prospects , an awful town, a bare bones team and essentially we can only afford to pay sh1t wages . In most cases we the last club anyone would sign for in the prem and plenty would just stay at a “ big” champ club than come here , it’s sad but true. I wouldn’t change it for anything

We aren’t signing anyone. Any bids at this stage are just to sate fan expectation and say “oh well we tried”. It’s fine we have January to sign players

Why do people revel in thinking we are some form of third world esque football club. They love to think we are slit and fighting against all odds.
We are among the highest income clubs in world football but we choose a model that the board feel best suits us. Whilst we can’t compete with the absolute elite, we are a club that has prospects and a pull for the right players.

Would have been a steady, safe and within budget addition for us - and you'd imagine the ability to stay where he is currently based would have swung it in our favour.AndyClaret wrote:Aron Mooy to Brighton on Loan.
One can only assume we have a central midfielder in the bag for us to have shown no interest in Mooy, right?

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Think the biggest issue with Mooy for us is that he's not very tall. If we're looking for someone who is genuinely an alternative to Cork, then it isn't Mooy because a midfield of Mooy and Westwood would lack stature.jedi_master wrote:Would have been a steady, safe and within budget addition for us - and you'd imagine the ability to stay where he is currently based would have swung it in our favour.

But I think a few of us have been surprised that Mooy hasn't been more in demand this summer. But he hasn't, from anyone. He's gone on a loan deal right at the end of the window. Given that presumably he's a pretty affordable signing, you've got to ask why he's not been more sought after.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wouldn't say he was a clear upgrade, but he'd be competitive in our squad with only 3 fit central midfielders. No meltdown here but a loan deal for him wouldn't have been the worst business today.NL Claret wrote:Bang average, wouldn't be an upgrade.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Didn’t Mooy tail off massively in the 2nd half of the season last year? He wasn’t close to being the best player in the pitch the other night against Derby either.

Fully agree
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Apart from a decent corner and a shot that went wide he didn't stand out one bit. Hogg is a better midfield player, uses the ball well, doesn't lose possession and breaks play up.dandeclaret wrote:Didn’t Mooy tail off massively in the 2nd half of the season last year? Nonsense. Nobody would be able to sign anybody if that were the case and I don't recall us competing with Man City for the services of Ashley Westwood.Tall Paul wrote:
There probably are such players, but if they're good enough to replace players in our first team (that have proven they're good enough for PL football), other clubs will probably know about them and be prepared to offer them more. They won't play for £30k a week if they can get £31k somewhere else.
That's the reality of the market.
We're an established Premier League team paying astronomical wages to play in the best league in the world (tm) yet we can't find suitable players outside the city boundaries of Leeds, Stoke or Birmingham.

There's also an important factor to add in, the player in question may have no interest in coming to burnley as there are better offers elsewhere.

You appear to have missed the point that if these players are good enough to improve our first team then they're also good enough to improve the first teams of about ten other PL clubs who will pay them more wages. Those other clubs don't include Manchester City, so not sure why you've mentioned them.Sproggy wrote:Nonsense.
