I'm sure they could have sorted it if they had wanted to.ClaretTony wrote:He was pushed out of Huddersfield by Dean Hoyle because of a contract issue
IMO, it's a shame it didn't work out for him at BFC, but he obviously didn't impress our manager.

Hoyle didn't want to - he'd only a year left on his contract I think and he had initially turned down an offer to extend. When he changed his mind, Hoyle said now and said he would sell him.boatshed bill wrote:I'm sure they could have sorted it if they had wanted to.

Take your point about Westwood & Marney's injury but Marney was still on the payroll. Cork came in 2 years ago & Arfield left a year agoClaretTony wrote:Westwood came in almost immediately Marney got injured and we've since also added Cork into the centre of midfield.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
But we knew Marney wasn't going to be playing for some considerable time so we brought in Westwood and then in the following summer Cork, so it is simply wrong to suggest we haven't replaced Marney. It wasn't so much when he was off the payroll but when he was unavailable and we brought someone in immediately.rob63 wrote:Take your point about Westwood & Marney's injury but Marney was still on the payroll. Likewise, Lennon was brought in before Arfield left - again not waiting until a player has left before bringing in his replacement.

Dyche will and should have the final say, but I’d hope that Rigg is slowly but surely building up a wider pool of players from which to choose from.
Dyche presumably identifies a type of player profile he’s after and Rigg will hopefully present some options within x criteria.

Anyone else think that Vydra could be like a new signing with a full pre-season under his belt?
I remember how Robbie Brady came out of his first pre-season with us completely re-energised.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I'm not suggesting that this isn't correct - I don't know - but in fairness it seems right to point out that he also wasn't viewed as a natural fit for Huddersfield's system, being neither a natural number 9 nor naturally suited to playing out wide in a front 3, so he was on the periphery of the their team. In fact, it wasn't wholly dissimilar to the one Vydra found himself in at Derby last summer.ClaretTony wrote:Hoyle didn't want to - he'd only a year left on his contract I think and he had initially turned down an offer to extend. I don't think it's controversial to say that their status at their clubs mirrored the fact that neither player was our first choice at the time we signed them.
But to provide balance the other way - the fact of the matter is that we have 8 first team midfielders or wide players - 4 natural central midfielders (counting McNeil as a wide player for now), and 4 natural wide players (2 of whom naturally prefer left and the same on the right). It is absolutely not the case that we are short of bodies in that department so we some past departure in that department has left a vacancy to be filled.
Our problem is that Defour in particular cannot be relied upon to stay fit. But to replace him involves getting rid of him, or ending up with a squad which is a bit top-heavy. So I can absolutely understand that we might not be bringing in a midfielder until we've offloaded Defour (and a similar argument might apply to bringing in a wide player - we need Lennon, say, to move on first).

Its simple we have too many keepers. If we don't get a cm player better than what we have then are almost certain to be in a relegation fight from day 1 imo.claretspice wrote:I'm not suggesting that this isn't correct - I don't know - but in fairness it seems right to point out that he also wasn't viewed as a natural fit for Huddersfield's system, being neither a natural number 9 nor naturally suited to playing out wide in a front 3, so he was on the periphery of the their team. Don't you think we will be in a relegation fight when we are in this division for a good few years or do you think we are a signing away from being safe in August ?

The market has moved on,
Its all Wan Bissaka’s fault,
We have to operate within the constraints of our financial model
We can’t even compete financially with some Championship clubs
Players have to be the right fit
We already have a strong squad,
We have a number of players coming back from injury and returning from loans that will be like new signings
The wage bill has gone up significantly in the past two years
We’ve spent all the spare money on new stands and plastic seats
Have I missed anything?

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I'd say that's a slightly extreme position given how well we performed with Cork and Westwood in that department after Christmas last season, and given how well we performed with Cork, Defour and Hendrick primarily manning those roles the season before. I'm very much on board with the argument that it is an area where we could usefully strengthen, but I can equally see that it's an area where we'd need to move someone out first and that takes time. There's a reasonable argument that what the squad lacks is a utility place who could play wide or up front, or at full back or in midfield - because that is about the only way we can add extra depth without making the squad too fat.summitclaret wrote:Its simple we have too many keepers. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Sounds like you are prepared to take another risk on Defour's fitness. I am not. Cork's performances in 2018 were worrying enough to convince me that he can't assume he starts every week. Also we should have 5 centre midfielders in the squad, one of which could be a younger one for the future. Our inability to bring on subs in cm is a big factor in us conceding so many late goals.claretspice wrote:I'd say that's a slightly extreme position given how well we performed with Cork and Westwood in that department after Christmas last season, and given how well we performed with Cork, Defour and Hendrick primarily manning those roles the season before. The only thing that matters is where you finish at the end of the season.
