Roofe is a striker more like Andre Gray, off the shoulder of someone.
Vydra is the sort to get the ball deeper and run with it, mixed with tap-ins and simply being in the right place at the right time.
I’ve lived near Oxford for a good while and by default see a lot of Oxford Utd and of Roofe whilst he was there. Physically similar and with similar attributes. His brief at Oxford may have been different to what he has at Leeds. He’s capable of playing both ways as is Vyds. Haven’t seen much of him at Leeds, wouldn’t go out of my way to watch them.
Roofe though is a worse all round footballer than Vydra. I think considerably but maybe Roofe has improved beyond recognition as he does flatter to deceive.

Roofe at Leeds tends (or should that be tended) to be a lazy arse and waits for the run. Whereas Vydra will drop back and actually help build up an attack. So very different in how they play on the pitch.Holtyclaret wrote:I’ve lived near Oxford for a good while and by default see a lot of Oxford Utd and of Roofe whilst he was there. Given our record in the transfer market over the last couple of years (leaving it until the last minute), I doubt we will be able to get anyone in before Thurs
Bielsa has confirmed (says SSN) Roofe will likely leave this summer so Vydra may go there, hence he did not feature yesterday to avoid injury
But Phillips played today so just can't see him leaving
Camarasa will likely choose Palace over us so it's going to have to be a surprise package
Drinkwater, Mooy or, yes Jones (or someone of a similar stature)

True but not one of them has been a success in the last 4 windows so if we're going off past history seems there's not much hope on the quality midfielder we could do with.Tall Paul wrote:Our record of always making a signing in the last few days of the transfer window you mean? Personally I see every new window as a different challenge so i'll just see where we are when the window closes

Phillips move would make sense if we were offering Jeff as a sweetener. Ready made replacement, dominated the championship 4 years ago, played regularly in the Prem ever since.
Which is a shame because I was his biggest critic in his false 10 role, but I think he's really effective out on the right blocking the flank (something Lennon struggles with) and occasionally creating

We certainly wouldn't be strenghing our midfield by shipping out Hendrick in a deal to sign Philips. We need to sign Philips, keep Hendrick, and get shut of Vydra.
I can't see Leeds wanting to sell Philips and I don't think Philips would want to come here.

That Kiko Casilla at Leeds is utter rubbish, wonder if Hart would be open to a move. Vydra + Hart + cash would be a great deal for us.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Hart and Vydra to Leeds would be £100k a week additional wages for Leeds - I reckon that’s not far from Leeds’ total TV revenue per year !
It ain’t going to happen.
Hopefully Vydra plus around £15m cash might get him.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Phillips holds all the cards here. He has a year left on his contract and can sit tight and weigh up his options in 12 months.
Leeds clearly don’t want to lose him but quoting £30m is pie in the sky.
Can only see this happening if Phillips tells them he wants to go now or won’t stay beyond next year which may force Leeds into listening to offers.
Even then, Phillips may still choose to see out his contract if Leeds will allow him to do so. They may tolerate it if it means a better chance of promotion.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
They need another striker now though with Roofe going and we know they definitely wanted Vydra 12 months ago. The thing that could stop the deal happening is the usual issue of the selling club asking for way too much for their player and also the fact that they have little time to secure their own replacement players.randomclaret2 wrote:Vydra messed Leeds about last summer before he came here as well.Im not necessarily convinced they would want him again either.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Bit too quiet on the rumour front for my liking. I really can't see us bringing anyone in now. Our market seems to be in the Championship and with their season already started it will be even more difficult to get a top player from there. Any of the teams we deal with will hold out for more money than Burnley are prepared to pay and IMO it's looking increasingly likely we'll be starting with what we have. I just pray that Cork and Westwood stay fit.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
There's a curious presumption here that just because the rumours have only just got into the press, that means we've only just started work on this potential deal.
I suspect that's simply not the case. I imagine we've been working on it for a while and if we're still working on it, it is because we think there's a decent chance of getting it over the line. Or of course, it might be we did have an interest but have switched our (main) focus to other targets.
By all accounts, the story about the lad from Genk who went to Atalanta broke quite a long time after we'd gone through the cycle of enquiring, bidding, negotiating and realising it wasn't going to happen. It was presented in the media as something that was current, when really we'd already accepted we'd moved on.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Interesting thing about the lad from Genk, aside from playing in central midfield I don't think he could be more different to Kalvin Phillips.
One is a goal scoring midfielder who takes set pieces, the other is an anchor man who at times has covered centre back.
Don't get me wrong, I would be delighted to sign Phillips, just think it seems a bit scattergun going from Malinovskyi to him as aside from playing centrally they couldn't be more different. It's like saying we need a striker and you go all out for Andy Carroll and then end up with Michael Owen.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Depends what they’d be willing to do for regular game time. Vydra wants to leave, presumably because he wants to play - I can’t see him starting on £50k a week for any Premier League team.TVC15 wrote:Hart and Vydra to Leeds would be £100k a week additional wages for Leeds - I reckon that’s not far from Leeds’ total TV revenue per year !

You’re probably right all told, but it’s worth looking into. And of course, Leeds need both a striker and probably a goalkeeper, and they would be being offered both for free.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
We’re now at the stage of the window where key players don’t tend to leave clubs unless the fee is ridiculous or the move has been anticipated for a while and the selling club are confident of bringing in a replacement.
The majority of players you see move at this late stage are generally unwanted/fringe players. Phillips does not fall into that category.
