See Burnley for that example

I'm only saying it would be very hard to find an argument we can/will finish 7th again. The league gets tougher for us the more bankrolled teams come up.

Yes theres always chance teams will do a Fulham, but theres also the chance of 1 doing a Wolves.

We need to make sure theres always 3 worse off teams than us, this year will be tougher than the last 2 IMO.

We have the experience and know how, but if 2 of the 3 new boys stay up, it will put us seriously in the mix should we not improve the starting 11 again.
They haven't just changed manager though, they did that last season and they've got a weaker playing staff as it stands.

I reckon there are more people expecting 2 of the 3 promoted clubs to go down this season than there were last season. By that measure, the league appears to be no stronger at the bottom end. And if we bring in a midfielder, I think it'll be fair to assume that we're stronger than last season overall, so all of this seems a bit premature and hysterical.

Devils_Advocate wrote:To be fair Random was responding to Spijed who likes to dismiss the first half of last season as if it didn't happen and make out that we are somehow a Europa League form team.

This isn't true in itself cos I think on the form guide we were around 12th-14th for second half of last season plus to just choose the part of the season you did best isn't really a great way of judging things. Random sort of highlighted this by showing if he picked and chose his games he could make us out to be relegation fodder.

The reality is we are neither but that we'have stalled over the last 3 or 4 transfer windows and haven't built on the squad we put together that came 7th and now we are a bottom 5 or 6 team with the likes of Brighton, Newcastle and the 3 promoted teams.

A good midfielder to go with Jay will give us and edge and maybe see us pushing into the 12-14 place bracket but if we don't make that signing this year is likely to be another long slog where we are completely dependant on ths skills Dyche has in making a purse out of a sour's ear
You can't ignore the first half of last season, but you can very legitimately say that in the context of 3 good halves to the last 2 seasons - perhaps even 5 good halves to the last 3 seasons - it is the exception and therefore something of a blip. As a result, it should probably be given less weight than those good halves, not more.

Re: Loan Players

Post by Texanclaret16 » Tue Aug 06, 2019 1:49 pm

Not seen many rumours about loans and don’t know who is out there and available but if we don’t want to spend or have time now to get actual signings then looking into the so called top 6 is there anyone available for a loan deal that would suit us.

I know this won’t happen because Pep will use him but Phil Foden would surely suit a move even if only till January. He will only get the odd start here and there at City and maybe 15 mins to rest Silva or De B where surely his development would be better playing and starting every game for another PL team maybe us and also boost his chances for England playing every game. Then Pep can have him for when Silva retires.

Just one of a number of young prospects at the top 6 that would suit a move I am sure.

BFC Transfer news (must contain link).........a few "missing links" methinks .....but this thread is like a drug that you are addicted to ...you know its wrong but you keep going back to it ..me personally i think back to last december and remember the team playing poorly and looking certain to be relegated ( i was not alone !!!!) just read back some threads at that time ....with amazing talent and skill Sean Dyche and co managed to get the team and everyone involved ,including us,on the rise . i reckon we should leave it to the gaffer and co to sort out what we want ....he has proved that over the years ...and us ...we can enjoy the ride .p.s. kalvin phillips we need you !! You know what lets all sod it and just accept if we go down we are back to a level where the club can manage all expectations or do we need to drop another after that ? As it can happen.

9th actually.

We've always been a bottom 5 or 6 team, and probably always will be. There is no "next level" for us and one day we'll no doubt go back down to the Championship.

I think if it does end up being a case of we go with what we have, I think it could be argued by some we haven't improved the first 11 for 3 maybe 4 windows, and that would be a fair point too.

So why do you keep mentioning top 10 - it does not have to be like that if you dont stand still - the worlds a big place with plenty of good players available at the right prices.

Your expectations appear to be totally unrealistic and unachievable.

Why can't we just accept that we're likely to flirt with relegation every season in this league and if we stay up, it will be a successful season?

I agree every season is going to be a struggle - but we dont seem to want to compete

We have the oldest squad with what must be the biggest bank balance - we were apparantly the 20 th wealthiest club in europe last summer.

If you want that go and read News Now. This is a message board for discussion. What part of that don't you understand?

What do you base that on?

It could be said the fact that 3 of those windows we haven't improved our first 11 has seen us go from 7th to 15th or where ever we finished.

Itd be interesting to see what the results/points were from Feb 2017 compared to games played. ( the last 4 windows )

Possibly only 1 point per game ( guess without looking )

TARKOWSKI TO LEICESTER UNLIKELY

Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski looks to set to miss out on a move to Leicester City.

After missing out on Gary Cahill, who joined Crystal Palace on Monday, the Lancashire club are more reluctant to sell Tarkowski, who would cost north of £40m.

After reaching an impasse with the Clarets over a fee, the Foxes are now understood to be looking at loan options - within and outside the UK - to replace Harry Maguire.

Cheapskates!!

How about asking the player Bury were paying £15k a week to give some of it back ?
I’m all for a club being saved by the whole of the football community rather than just Burnley but part of me also thinks we need something like this to happen as an example to other clubs.
If a club is going to run as badly as Bury and Bolton have been only to be bailed out what’s the incentive for other clubs to not overspend ?
The best way to sort out the mess would be to have much better football league governance over league clubs finances and financial fair play rules that actually have some teeth - prevention is a far better strategy. Catch the offenders early and put transfer bans on them and impose a remediation strategy which until it’s implemented the ban on signing new players can’t be lifted - I know this can lead to relegation but right now i’m 100% sure every Bury fan were wishing they had not been promoted last season or even relegated to the National League rather than face losing their club altogether

A million to our club at the moment is small change ...yes i know that is an obscene statement when people are struggling to make ends meet .....but it would give everyone inside and outside of football a reminder of where football has come from and is going to ...and it would give our football club so much goodwill ....BURNLEY FC.THE CLUB OF THE PEOPLE ..sounds cool !!!!

Jermaine Beckford apparently - that’s what a Bury season ticket holder told me last year. He has been out injured for most of the time since they signed him.
I did hear the new owner / chairman on the radio last week talking about the horror of what he found out when he took the club over and the contracts that had been given to some players.
To be honest he sounded way out of his depth himself as he was saying about how he found out that the club owned several million more than he realised when he took over the club and it was for this reason he thought the football league should show some leniency and allow him to sign new players !!
Complete lack of due diligence done...hard to believe how it can happen

A few days ago I would have agreed that we don't need a striker. We needed one and we brought in Jay.

However, if the rumour mill has any substance ( and we are receiving bids for Nahki and/or considering swap deals plus cash that include Vydra ) we might actually need one. If two of our strikers leave it would take us down to three.

Even if Vydra stays beyond this window we could see him move on in the not to distant future if he doesn't get any game time. Working with a tight budget sometimes means being pro-active - like bringing in a replacement before you sell a player. Instead of selling a player and then being under pressure to replace them as a clock ticks down.

A central midfielder is the priority though.

It needs a club to go under unfortunately. If clubs keep getting bailed out the the financial mis-management will continue.
