Nah that’s definitely the manager, Sean Dyche. You can tell by the water bottle. We must have just scored.

Heaton is shown clearly shown training in Portugal on a number of videos and photos released by the club today. However, as quickly as Rodriguez arrived it is plausible that Heaton could leave in similar fashion and be back in England within a couple of hours.
I really do think it’ll be a big blow if he leaves- he’s our best keeper by a mile.

The Pope new contract surprised me. I’d wrongly assumed that he would be the one we cashed in for and that Tom would likely see out his days with us.

Tom's injury, read it was a lot worse than the Pope one...could that be the reasoning behind maybe him not getting the contract offer he wanted....just a thought.

I partially agree with it. He would be a big loss as he has been fantastic for us. However IF Pope continues from where he was pre injury then Heaton is certainly not miles better and I'm not even sure he's the better keeper.ClaretTony wrote:I totally agree with that

We will all have opinions on this, and we will choose one or the other, but I think Tom is technically the best of all our goalkeepers.Goobs wrote:I partially agree with it. I don't think Tom Heaton has ever got to the level Pope did in 17/18 over the the long period but we can't be sure if Pope will get back to it.

You are right definitely a split of opinions over all three of them. I agree with Heaton being technically better than the other two (just) but Pope has a big advantage over him that you can't train and that's size which helps with his shot stopping and aerial ability.ClaretTony wrote:We will all have opinions on this, and we will choose one or the other, but I think Tom is technically the best of all our goalkeepers.
Would be gutted to lose either if one does go but the one thing Heaton has that would have me wanting to keep him most is the proven track record of being a fantastic performer, leader and role model.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If Utd keeper is worth 75mil, then 10 is ridiculous for Tom.
That said Tom is our best keeper by a country mile, and for me looking at Popes cameo appearance last season in the cup, (and yes the only game I had seen him in since his injury, he was far from the form in his glory season,) so I just hope he isn't another who wont get back to how he was, or that 10mil might just be the most costliest mistake we have made.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I’m a big fan of Heaton, but we had our best ever defensive record in the Premier League with Pope in goal and that was largely down to him commanding his area so much that the defence had far less to do. Heaton is definitely the better keeper technically and pulls off more “wonder saves” than Pope, but Pope’s size made us look more comfortable at the back.

Burnley account, there’s footage of him training with the other keepers.
However, in this day and age it means nothing as he could be back in the UK within hours and much of the negotiation can be done without the need for face to face meetings between the player and club officials.
I’ve posted elsewhere on this messageboard why I believe keeping a happy, playing Heaton is so important but keeping a player against his best wishes is not good for team spirit.

I’d be happy to start either but Tom’s major weakness is coming for crosses and this is Nick’s top asset. Shot stopping there is very little in them.

Gonzalo has had his say
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Pope is the future. Would love to keep Tom but from a purely financial point we have to cash in on him now. He will only devalue sitting on the bench.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Agree about the leader & role model but don't think Heaton is technically better as they have different techniques, particularly when diving across goal. Pope dives with his legs together making his body parallel to the ground, like an Olympic diver, similar technique to Pickford. Heaton has his legs more open, similar to Hart, often going with one hand to stretch his reach. Pope has also got slimmer hips & longer legs which seems to give him quicker feet, so he makes more saves with his feet, as does De Gea & to some extent, Pickford.Goobs wrote:You are right definitely a split of opinions over all three of them. Sorry to be boring, just an observation, doesn't make one better than the other, just different IMHO.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I agree that Tom is technically the better keeper and he is my favourite of the three.
But, we conceded a number of late goals last season which didn't happened less when pope was in goal because his size commanded the area in those periods of extreme pressure. His ratio of goals conceded supports this.
So, if Pope can return to his form of 17-18, he must be the one. The club obviously think so.
No room for sentiment in this game

As CTs goalkeeping expert adviser, I can verify that Heaton's experience makes him 'technically' better than Pope.
However, overall, Pope's ability on crosses in the pen area, outweighs that, in value to our sometimes beleaguered defence.
Pope will also gain in experience. He is the better keeper, for Burnley.

Interesting opinions around the respective skills of each goalkeeper but I think Vegas claret has nailed it. Our fortunes turned when Tom came back, not only because of his goalkeeping prowess but because we got our captain back on the field.Massive confidence boost all around including the defence. If we lose him who do you think should pick up the role? Ben is a bit too quiet on the field for my liking. Based on the scant knowledge of a supporter I would look at Bardsley, Ashley or even Defour if he can stay fit.
