Villa up to £91m spent so far as per Sky Sports. Definitely in my top 3 for clubs I would like to see relegated this season.

Which is why it's better to hold on to him for a season but do you do the decent thing and let him go (what's best for the player) or put the club first and hang on to him.CombatClaret wrote:I'd hoped If he left it would be to a more established team, letting him go to a promoted club seriously strengthens a rival which we should be looking to finish above.
I'd put the club first and hang on to him and play him week in week out, then he can go, if he still chooses, at the end of the season. If his form fails, or his attitude affects his form (doubtful for Heaton), or he gets injured then we use Pope earlier than planned.Firthy wrote:Which is why it's better to hold on to him for a season but do you do the decent thing and let him go (what's best for the player) or put the club first and hang on to him.
Yes, Dean Smith won't let them be like Fulham, he's more in the Sean Dyche mouldElectroClaret wrote:Absolutely. And let's hope they go the same way.
Although I suspect they'll do a lot better than Fulham.
I hope so because Dyche got relegated in his first attempt at the Premier League.rob63 wrote:Yes, Dean Smith won't let them be like Fulham, he's more in the Sean Dyche mould
Still sobering up?aggi wrote:What's happened to Danny Drinkwater? He was in the press for a drink-driving ban but I haven't seen anything about any possible transfers for him which is surprising given his lack of playing time at Chelsea. Is he injured?
......you know what I mean!Rileybobs wrote:I hope so because Dyche got relegated in his first attempt at the Premier League.
So we let him go next year to another newly-promoted club? For nothing, & lose out on £8/9m-ish for groundhog day to happen?Rick_Muller wrote:I'd put the club first and hang on to him and play him week in week out, then he can go, if he still chooses, at the end of the season. I would not be selling him to a rival.
We're trying to stay in the league as long as possible (at some point we will go down), so losing out on £9m might be price worth paying in refusing to strengthen a rival and better our chances of another year at the £100m+ table.rob63 wrote:So we let him go next year to another newly-promoted club? Yep - keep him and if he plays like he did last season he’ll be a big part in securing another season in the Premier League and another £120m.rob63 wrote:So we let him go next year to another newly-promoted club? For nothing, & lose out on £8/9m-ish for groundhog day to happen?

Plus as fans we get another season seeing for many of us our favourite Burnley keeper ever.
Personally I prefer that to having £42m in the Bank instead of £34m.....that doesn’t float my boat as much on a Saturday afternoon when I go watch the team
What if he stays, plays and signs a contract extension in the next 12 months?rob63 wrote:So we let him go next year to another newly-promoted club? For nothing, & lose out on £8/9m-ish for groundhog day to happen?
another year on and Pope is No 1 and Heaton is another year older - hence why the club have offered 1 year extension and not 3 years - the club cannot guarantee No 1 slot for Tom for 3 years, but they can say this year you've got it because it was yours at the end of last season.rob63 wrote:So we let him go next year to another newly-promoted club? I wonder who it is?
I’d be shocked if Bowen finished this window as a Hull player. Question is which side will act first?Reecey1987 wrote:Hull are closing in on a winger from everton bowen's replacement maybe ? https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive ... on-starlet" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I thought it might be ourselves as he is an Ireland international.Quickenthetempo wrote:Been confirmed that Preston have accepted a bid for forward Callum Robinson off a Premier league club.

He's currently with the Chelsea squad, new manager, clean slate etc.aggi wrote:What's happened to Danny Drinkwater? I think he will end up leaving this window like you say who strikes firstSGr wrote:I’d be shocked if Bowen finished this window as a Hull player. Question is which side will act first?
I would hope we are seriously looking for an upgrade in CMFirthy wrote:I think they read this forum and then make up rumours to suit. I've read three crap rumours already this morning.
Vydra out on loan to a championship club. Why would we keep him and loan him out, we might as well sell him.
Heaton allowed to go if AV up their bid. Complete contradiction to SD's comments.
SD is looking for a midfielder because of Defours fitness problems.
These are rumours anyway one of us could have made up. There are so many crap football sites now that just make up or regurgitate old rumours that most of them can be ignored.
I think he’d been to pack his bags by Sarri but it’s all change there now.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:He's currently with the Chelsea squad, new manager, clean slate etc.
Plus if Lampard plays Kante in his proper position that frees up a spot for Drinkwater to maybe get a fair chance to show what he can do.

No link, just a rumour I heard.
Pretty sure he had the chance to go out on loan in January but he wasn't interested. Happy to sit on his backside and collect his money every week.aggi wrote:What's happened to Danny Drinkwater? Can't believe that for a moment, when we are giving new signings 2 and 3 years.jojomk1 wrote: Not read through everything on here but seem to remember that we were only prepared to offer Heaton an extra year after this whereas he was looking for a longer deal

“Cracking signing” ?Long Time Lurker wrote:I was hoping it might be us.
Good young player, domestic, lots of potential, can play anywhere across the front line, already lives local, part of the Ireland squad, scored 12 outfield goals last season in only 27 games ( primarily from the left wing) and he was obviously going to move in this window for a price well within our budget.
£6 - 8m ( with a resell clause ) is a snip in this market. A half decent season in the Premiership could see his value rise substantially.
We could have developed him into the quick Centre Forward that we arguably need, because he showed a lof of promise in the couple of outings he got there last season. Having a new player in the squad, who could do a job on either wing, would have been beneficial should any of our existing players leave next year.
Well done Sheffield, cracking signing that could easily turn out to be the bargain of the window going forward.
Rumoured to be Sheffield United he’s off to.TVC15 wrote:“Cracking signing” ?
Really ?
You mention his ok record last year but that’s his 3rd season at Preston and he played 40 odd games in each of his previous 2 seasons and didn’t pull up many trees.
He’s 25 this year so whilst I agree he has time to develop he’s also had plenty of opportunity to do better than he has.
In this current market £6m to £8m looks about right - if anything it’s too much.
Seriously not got a clue why you think this is such a great signing other than some campaign you have where you seem to love to criticise our transfer strategy and think everyone else’s is great.
Can’t say I’ve ever heard of him, have you seen him play?MDWat wrote:Peacock-Farrell is truly, truly garbage.
Plenty. Live over this way and a couple of my best pals are Leeds fans. They couldn’t speak any less of him if they tried.Bigvince wrote:Can’t say I’ve ever heard of him, have you seen him play?
Yep deal is nearly done.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Rumoured to be Sheffield United he’s off to.
Pretty sure he was a regular for Leeds the first half of last season when they were top of the league, so he can't be that bad.MDWat wrote:Peacock-Farrell is truly, truly garbage.
He was at fault for goals week after week after week.jrgbfc wrote:Pretty sure he was a regular for Leeds the first half of last season when they were top of the league, so he can't be that bad.
Leeds fans don't seem too impressed by him.MDWat wrote:Peacock-Farrell is truly, truly garbage.
I know all that, what you said was " I wouldn't sell him to a rival".......so Heaton starts the season, gets a thigh strain, Pope comes in, plays well, stays in cos Heaton still hasn't signed a contract extension. End of season Leeds are promoted, Heaton joins them on a free, so he still goes to a rival, this time for nothing & we've lost £8/9m or £160,000/£180,000 per week....... would you be happy that BFC kept him so they can say it was yours at the end of last season? Or are you on here saying BFC should be offering more in fees/wages to entice a better player?Rick_Muller wrote:another year on and Pope is No 1 and Heaton is another year older - hence why the club have offered 1 year extension and not 3 years - the club cannot guarantee No 1 slot for Tom for 3 years, but they can say this year you've got it because it was yours at the end of last season.
Great! But how long do the club give him to make up his mind?Goobs wrote:What if he stays, plays and signs a contract extension in the next 12 months?
Well, if he regards it as an insult, it wouldn't be surprising he wants to leave. I was baffled too if their main priority was to move Hart on, bit clumsy i thoughtLong Time Lurker wrote:Can't believe that for a moment, when we are giving new signings 2 and 3 years.
The offer of a one year deal would be an insult and the equivalent of a strong push towards the door after everything he has already done for us and can still do.
Depends on our intent really.rob63 wrote:Great! But how long do the club give him to make up his mind?
Think they've shown their intent already by the contracts offered, they prefer £8m now & maybe put towards a CM or £3m in Jan when choice of midfielders is less. Just can't get a handle on the Hart situation thoGoobs wrote:Depends on our intent really.
If he is going to be number one then possibly until January. If we are happy with Pope or Hart being our keeper then yes let him go provided the offer is right.
There’s a lots of ifs and buts there....if he gets injured, if Leeds go up, if Leeds want to buy him, if Tom wants to go to Leeds etcrob63 wrote:I know all that, what you said was " I wouldn't sell him to a rival".......so Heaton starts the season, gets a thigh strain, Pope comes in, plays well, stays in cos Heaton still hasn't signed a contract extension.
