People get paid lots of money to find better players than we currently have. Time for them to earn their wages.
There’s no doubt we need a new midfielder... absolutely agree with that and every year we stay up should open slightly more doors. As such I would expect tweaks to the quality here and there. Defour, if permanently fit, is a top 6 player and his injuries are the reason he is with us (can’t see him play again in claret and blue). Cork is an average premier league player who is good enough for us. We need to cover for an injury to Westwood or Cork and they need to be of the same quality at least.

Agree with your last sentence Blyclaret, we'll have to break the £15m barrier sooner or later.

Yeah I don't think Wilson would come cheap. We'll need to be paying £20m and upwards for a midfielder who can walk straight into the first team - that's the price you need to pay.

Not having a go at the board
But after 3 years in premier league and prices going north all the time
Its that kind of player id like to see us buying.
With youth and a sell on ....

Is Wilson the type of midfielder we need though?

He's a very talented player no doubt, but when I look at the side and where it's weakest, I feel like we could do with more of a defensive type.

Having a tight reign on the transfer tiller, in and of itself, is absolutely fine.

But having that and then choosing to shop almost exclusively in the most expensive market in the world - England - really is a problem.

I still think we’ll sign somebody mind. If not, and I don’t care what anybody says, questions need to be asked of Rigg.

If Vydra is to leave then that’s the only way I see a signing like Wilson being made by us. Ryan Kent would be another I’d be interested in if we wanted another winger, also with him being right footed he would bring more balance to the squad.

Presumably Wells will leave on loan again to Championship as I can’t see anybody buying him, and if Vydra goes then that leaves us a striker short as we all known dyche likes to have 4 strikers in the squad!

Not sure he would be, to be honest. And I don't think we'd want to be getting into a bidding war with Villa, who seem to throwing money at the wall like mud, hoping some of it sticks.

I think the formation we play will determine the type of midfielder we buy.
With Dyches history that will be 442
Therefore i think Wilson will not be the type
Maybe Moy from Huddersfield.... hard worker ...
Thats the type we have gone for in the past.

Why do you think that, we have enough funds and room in the squad to sign a midfileder without selling anyone.

Surprised at Villa wanting the price to drop on Tom. In the current market I realIy think £10m is bordering on "cheap" for such a quality keeper.

I’m not entirely convinced by Wilson having watched him, and that figure if true suggests Liverpool aren’t either. They sold Ibe for £15m a few years ago, which is a higher fee relatively when you take the current market into account - and have established a reputation of collecting high transfer fees for players who barely feature.

Drinkwater has been made available.

I appreciate he will be on crazy wages but may make the drop??

In other news I see Palace are after McCarthy of Everton too for £5m. (!)

I still do feel that McCarthy would be a good option for us especially at that price.

Drinkwater should stay in London and go to palace, paving the way for us to go for McCarthy.

He scores plenty of goals and assisted plenty but that was in the championship . It looks like hes ready to step up a league and who ever gets him will have some player on there hands . Hes never going to break into liverpools team with the talent they have and would be unfair to keep him

Similar roles possibly as a number 10. Not sure Wilson would suit playing out wide for us in a 4-4-2

I think Drinkwater or McCarthy would be outstanding signings. Drinkwater in particular would be a great fit in cm.

Either on a 12 month loan with option to buy or permanent signing would be excellent business.

Don’t think we need a Wilson as I doubt he’d be a frequent starter with what we already have.

If you google Danny Drinkwater salary, you find a lot of sites suggesting he's on 100k a week at Chelsea.

If that's true he won't be coming here, even on loan.

Spot on. Its not just about “getting one before the window closes”, they have to be of a quality standard.

It all depends on the parent club and how much they want to get rid of a player.

City wanted rid, so they were happy to do a deal.
When Leeds had their financial implosion pretty much a generation ago now they were having to do the same to get their losses down, I think Portsmouth did the same.

I think Chelsea have already done it recently.

The big spenders keep getting caught out because they're over paying in wages for what turn out to be duffers so it's entirely possible to pick up someone like Drinkwater if Lampard decides to get rid.

Scousers wanted 20 million for him, he was probably their best player in today's 0-3 defeat to Napoli so that would have just gone up, no chance we will pay anything close to that

If we were paying big money for drinkwater id be gutted. It must be 2 years + since he played regular premier league football. clearly in it for the money (dont blame him) but hes nowhere near reg football and picks up a massive wage for doing f**k all. Reminds me someone.

No way pal. A very good player and you say he's done nothing for a while - exactly a Dyche player. Get in cheap, build up and maybe move on.

From memory I think we were interested/close to signing Drinkwater the year before he was part of the successful Leicester champion winning team of 15/16. If the lad's still hungry and feels he has something to prove, I personally think he would be a good fit if the price is right. Certainly a SD type player. While i'm on about Chelsea players, things seem to be quiet regards Gary Cahill. Whether he's part of the domino effect should Maguire join United, who knows. What I do feel is this lad will be the best bit of business this window and i hope were in with a shout, although I suspect he may go abroad.

Stephen’s is no better than what we have. We need to upgrade not stay static or go backwards. If we can’t source someone good enough from overseas or lower leagues we need to pay for it and most likely stretch our budget.
