If you take out every game we lost last season we were unbeaten. See how stupid it is?

Can you explain why you've decided to ignore those five wins in evaluating our results/form?

Do I really? Not sure where you get that idea from.

I'm not expecting a top ten finish, but I think it's good enough to be clear of relegation and if we get a lot of luck a top ten finish is possible.

I've an idea, why don't we look at the fact that over 38 games, we finished 15th with 40 points so realistically there is room for improvement.

I havent chosen to ignore them Paul.I wouldnt have mentioned them had that been the case. I am pointing out that our form has , in the main and with obvious exceptions, , been poor for a season and a half.

The problem is we don't know which Burnley will turn up. Will it be the one who demonstrated pure relegation form before Christmas? Or will it be the one who displayed Europa League form again after Christmas?

Don't forget we've since sold Heaton, who was a huge part of that turnaround.

We won't be signing a central midfielder.

That's a good idea and of course there's always room for improvement. I'm sure most of us would be happy with another 15th place finish this season though.

You clearly ignored them when you took them out in arriving at your conclusion that our results and form have been poor. You appear to have done it again here, presumably you mean those five wins when you mention "obvious exceptions". What is it that makes them exceptions?

It's that poor that we've been in the Europa League and retained Premier League status for the 4th (is it 4th...? I think so, been here for what seems to be ages playing that badly) consecutive season. God help the rest of the league when we actually hit form...

To be fair, you need to take out the 5-game winning run in early 2018 as well. We can't allow winning runs to skew the statistics.

Leicester have just lost a centre back who (for the money paid) we have to assume is one of the best in the world, and as good as anyone in the division. They have not yet replaced him. Are they really stronger?

I'm never convinced by this argument that the everyone gets better every year so if you don't strengthen, you fall behind. That implies that the league is getting better in standard every year, and I just don't see it.

There's still 2 1/2 days left of the window. Our big priority is a midfielder, but it looks as though we're looking at various other options that could strengthen us if other players leave - Frei or Holgate in case Gibson or Long leaves, a forward in case Vydra leaves, etc. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I'm cautiously optimstic that we'll strengthen the midfield, and it'll be a disappointment if we don't. You'd certainly have to be daft to write off the chances of us doing so yet.

Take out all the wins and we didn’t win a single game all season and that’s every bit as logical as is take away the run of four defeats and we had 12 games without defeat.

They're stronger than they were that season if only by the change of manager. Players aren't the only reason for a side doing well or better than expected with the players they have.
See Burnley for that example

I'm only saying it would be very hard to find an argument we can/will finish 7th again. The league gets tougher for us the more bankrolled teams come up.

Yes theres always chance teams will do a Fulham, but theres also the chance of 1 doing a Wolves.

We need to make sure theres always 3 worse off teams than us, this year will be tougher than the last 2 IMO.

We have the experience and know how, but if 2 of the 3 new boys stay up, it will put us seriously in the mix should we not improve the starting 11 again.

To be fair Random was responding to Spijed who likes to dismiss the first half of last season as if it didn't happen and make out that we are somehow a Europa League form team.

This isn't true in itself cos I think on the form guide we were around 12th-14th for second half of last season plus to just choose the part of the season you did best isn't really a great way of judging things. Random sort of highlighted this by showing if he picked and chose his games he could make us out to be relegation fodder.

The reality is we are neither but that we'have stalled over the last 3 or 4 transfer windows and haven't built on the squad we put together that came 7th and now we are a bottom 5 or 6 team with the likes of Brighton, Newcastle and the 3 promoted teams.

A good midfielder to go with Jay will give us and edge and maybe see us pushing into the 12-14 place bracket but if we don't make that signing this year is likely to be another long slog where we are completely dependant on ths skills Dyche has in making a purse out of a sour's ear

All seems very quiet considering how late in the window we are.

I’m fairly worried about this season, looking at the table I only feel we’re as good as or better than Sheffield United, Brighton and Norwich.

I thought that we’d take it up a level after the scare of last season.

I don’t think it’s a case of not over extending, it’s got a distinct air of the board choosing to save funds. Can’t believe we’re actually in profit for transfers since January.

Let’s hope we can pull some rabbits out of a hat I’m the next two days.

Leicester, Everton and West Ham have all got good managers who properly have their feet under the table now. Southampton have got a decent manager now instead of Hughes. Tbh I think we're nowhere near finishing top 10.
