With Hart who we already had.Tall Paul wrote:We replaced Pope pretty sharpish then

Your view, to which you are entitled, but you suggest our recruitment team don't know what they are doing and that's crap. They are far better than either you or I.Vegas Claret wrote:To be fair Tony, there are loads of players in Europe we can afford that would make us better. It's either our scouting that let's us down or someone wants to keep a predominantly British squad. Not saying either way is right
LinkCubanclaret wrote:I don’t start topics often but I’m in France on holiday and having to read all sorts of nonsense before cutting to the chase on the 80+ page thread (much to wife and children’s chagrin).
It looks like we are talking to Chelsea about bringing in a 29 year old England international to strengthen our much maligned central midfield.
Please can only updates on Drinkwater be kept to this thread.
Personally, I think this would cap a strong window given the quality of the two signings we have brought in and the recovery of one or two from injury, especially if we keep Tarks.
Kiss bye bye to that one then.agreenwood wrote:A little bit of chat has started on Twitter than West Ham are now in for Drinkwater.
Sssh don't say that on hereGranny WeatherWax wrote:What happens when we need to replace a couple of first teamers at the same time?
Where does the fella from Leeds come into it then?Granny WeatherWax wrote:With Hart who we already had.
You don’t seem to appreciate the point I’m trying to make.
Pretty sure I didn't say that at all to the degree you are suggesting. It was a mere observation on our last 4 years of business and that done so far this window. Not sure I've said anything you can dispute tbh. We don't seem to sign players from abroad who haven't played in England (other than Defour) and we have a predominantly British squad. Therefore we are for the most part paying more for the players because of the market we shop in - my question was who makes those decisions reallyClaretTony wrote:Your view, to which you are entitled, but you suggest our recruitment team don't know what they are doing and that's crap. Leeds lad is for the u23’s.Tall Paul wrote:Where does the fella from Leeds come into it then?
Whichever way you look at it we replaced an outgoing goalkeeper with an incoming one within a few days, which is evidence that we can replace players when required.
That's why we employ people who know what they are doing rather than people like yourself who are genuinely baffled.Granny WeatherWax wrote:What happens when we need to replace players in the starting eleven. I’m not having a dig, just genuinely baffled as to what we would do.
Either we replace them from within the club, as we've done with Heaton (and Keane in the past) or we go out and buy someone (like we did a couple of seasons ago when Gray left).Granny WeatherWax wrote:Leeds lad is for the u23’s.
My original post said first teamers. As in starters. What happens when we need to replace players in the starting eleven. I’m not having a dig, just genuinely baffled as to what we would do.
In my view signed quite a few how shall I say duffers these last few years so I disagree with that statement and spent an awful lot of money on these as well as wages - the problem is we keep looking into the wrong market and have done for a while but doubt this will change while dyche is bossClaretTony wrote:Your view, to which you are entitled, but you suggest our recruitment team don't know what they are doing and that's crap. Like the guy who wrecked our youth setup under Howe (name escapes me). Is Rigg part of the recruitment for the U23s ?ClaretTony wrote:That's why we employ people who know what they are doing rather than people like yourself who are genuinely baffled.
Our recruitment approach is baffling though. How long has Dyche known we've needed a midfielder for? It's just the same every single window.ClaretTony wrote:That's why we employ people who know what they are doing rather than people like yourself who are genuinely baffled.
Why can’t we sign a centre mid then. We’ve needed one for the last 4 windows.ClaretTony wrote:That's why we employ people who know what they are doing rather than people like yourself who are genuinely baffled.
You mean Blake and thankfully we have better people employing staff these days than we did then. Rigg is the technical director which includes a senior role within the academy.Vegas Claret wrote:Like the guy who wrecked our youth setup under Howe (name escapes me). We should have been developing young players ready to step in when we lose a player for the starting 11.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Why can’t we sign a centre mid then. We’ve needed one for the last 4 windows.
Long term planning obviously doesn’t register with you.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Leeds lad is for the u23’s.

Our last 4 years of business is so bad that we are now entering our 4th year in the premier league following on from a small venture into Europe.Vegas Claret wrote:Pretty sure I didn't say that at all to the degree you are suggesting. Edit: I would hope they know more than us
Like Nick Pope, Dwight McNeil and maybe Josh Benson, you mean?ksrclaret wrote:We should have been developing young players ready to step in when we lose a player for the starting 11.
Don’t you think we are addressing that now? McNeil, hopefully followed soon by Benson, is evidence of improvements in that area.ksrclaret wrote:We should have been developing young players ready to step in when we lose a player for the starting 11.
But we haven’t been doing that, we we’ve shown a preference to sign older pros as stop gaps. So now we’re left with a gap in the squad, unless one of the U23s can step in (which is quite rare).
Maybe the people in the recruitment team haven’t done such an amazing job as some seem to think.

We are talking about being priced out of the market we shop in, if you had bothered to read the rest of the conversation you wouldn't have twisted my wordsHibsclaret wrote:Our last 4 years of business is so bad that we are now entering our 4th year in the premier league following on from a small venture into Europe.
They must be doing something right given we spent all but 2 of the previous thirty odd years at Championship level or below.
Yes we are addressing the U23s, which is great. I’m all for that.TheFamilyCat wrote:Don’t you think we are addressing that now? McNeil, hopefully followed soon by Benson, is evidence of improvements in that area.

Well I am sure that as from this coming season we will have nobody on the bench. Might as well just retain 11 players and sell all the rest.gandhisflipflop wrote:There must have been some serious cash sitting on our bench at times last season. It is seriously frustrating.

We are absolutely smashing it, far beyond anyone’s expectations but something isn’t right on the recruitment side. It’s plain to see.Hibsclaret wrote:It’s the usual drivvle.
You say we can get better from Europe to improve the team. Given we performed better than everyone up to Man U in the 2nd part of last season, along with the full previous season you automatically assume that buying from Europe will take us above the biggest club in the world. They take bigger dumps than we can afford to spend and we are actually only a few points behind them in performance...
There is no evidence to suggest buying more from Europe will improve us. We took Defour and as great as he is (one of the best I have ever seen in a Claret shirt), it was a risk and has proved to be a risk. Most players from Europe will prefer more money from big city clubs. That is just a fact unfortunately.
For the size of club we are, we are absolutely smashing it at the moment.
Jesus ******* wept - we are talking about market value. I've never once mentioned league position, size of the club or evidence of anything.Hibsclaret wrote:It’s the usual drivvle.

He’s worth 40m now he’s played 90 mins with “Jonah” !!!!BOYSIE31 wrote:Jesus this Josh Benson will be worth 40 million by tomorrow going of people on here
Of course, they haven’t, but people do seem to be talking him up like he is the next big thing. He might well turn out to be, fingers crossed he does, but from what I saw of him at Crewe he is a way off. We need a CM for the here and now.Tall Paul wrote:Show me where anyone has said anything remotely resembling that.
Exactly Jesus wept. You said we could definitely improve by getting players from abroad. There’s nothing definite about it at all.Vegas Claret wrote:Jesus ******* wept - we are talking about market value. I've never once mentioned league position, size of the club or evidence of anything.
I'll await your next reply of "make **** up as you go along"
We sign players for the under-23, (and younger) and look to develop them to be their replacements.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Where’s the long term plan to replace cork and Westwood

How many players have come through from the youth team in the last 15 years.TheFamilyCat wrote:We sign players for the under-23, (and younger) and look to develop them to be their replacements.
Name a club that hasn't bought any 'duffers', as you say?BOYSIE31 wrote:In my view signed quite a few how shall I say duffers these last few years so I disagree with that statement and spent an awful lot of money on these as well as wages - the problem is we keep looking into the wrong market and have done for a while but doubt this will change while dyche is boss
We best get planning for relegation then as we will never be able to bring any even as good a player as the quality of the ones we have now.beddie wrote:Is it not simply down to finances. The Chairman and his staff have their own valuation of the player(s) and simply won't pay these over inflated prces, moreover, it's the wages that's required, especially when other interested parties intervene. It will be a niggle with the Manager and whilst I'm sure he's addressed the issue with the Chairman on numerous ocassions it must fustrate him. To be honest I can't see it changing unless we pick up some gems from foreign lands, presumably that's where Rigg will shine. This season will be a telling one though.
