Same info as mine (768) and correct as we will most likely be up against teams like Bournemouth, Villa and othersGrahamBranchsPerm wrote:Jay Rod.
Release clause activated.
Does not mean we won't get competition for his signature.
Source - no link, but a teammate of his I know.
Cheers
The story says he played a few games, went on loan, did not play and now down the list at Benfica. Was off to Wigan...now Burnley interested at £25mLongsider wrote:Alfa Semedo.

He'll improve the squad if we can get him and then a back up left back for me would be the next priority, someone who could come in if Taylor got injured or lost form.jedi_master wrote:Some will moan (age, same target as ever etc) but I think he would be a really good signing, especially at the rumoured price.
I hope you’re right.
Your obsession with Rigg is like your goalkeeping view. You seem to have no idea what Rigg's job is either.IanMcL wrote:Sunderland signed the new Defoe...our man Chakwana.
I hope we have not let a star man go just because someone didn't like him.
Having read that blog the other day by the QPR coach and how Rigg and his mates made so many mon football based decisions....I hope we have not succumbed.
If this is the case I would expect it'll gather pace and be common knowledge within the next 24 hours or so as Jay will want and need to start talking to interested clubs. Let's hope your 'contacts' come good.....jojomk1 wrote:Same info as mine (768) and correct as we will most likely be up against teams like Bournemouth, Villa and others
On the basis that we had agreed a wages figure with him last summer just hope we can pull this off
The new Defoe? A star man? Haha! Chakwana wasn't a great footballer.IanMcL wrote:Sunderland signed the new Defoe...our man Chakwana.

Chakwana was released by Steve Stone

He looks like what we are after, big, energetic midfielder
Yes someone who can keep possession in the middle a bit better. Fingers crossed.FactualFrank wrote:Crouch out and Jay in, for what - £5 mil? Would be a good swap and would provide solid competition between Wood, Barnes, Vydra and Jay. I'd be happy with that for this coming season.
Central Midfield for me is next priority though. Someone who can help to run the game and make things happen.
The new Defoe. Is he good at writing fiction?IanMcL wrote:Sunderland signed the new Defoe...our man Chakwana.

Tinashe does have an eye for goal but it was clear he’d be leaving, didn’t get much game time once Stone came in.summitclaret wrote:The new Defoe. Is he good at writing fiction?
I would think soReecey1987 wrote:I suppose we will find out soon if hes serious about coming home
He's been serious for a few years, sadly for 1 reason or another it didnt happen, but that's nothing to do with Jay.Reecey1987 wrote:I suppose we will find out soon if hes serious about coming home
I’m not sure you can compare the twoVegas Claret wrote:I'd rather we have Jay than Crouchy, at least Jay would come back hungry to prove himself
I think you can as squad players. Jay can be a bench player and fight for a starting place. Crouch is unique in his height, but that's not worth taking a place on the bench, unless you have nobody better. If Jay signed, we would have better.ClaretTony wrote:I’m not sure you can compare the two
SD won't break up the Wood-Barnes partnership until something happens which forces his hand. We've seen this time and time again and he'd be correct imo to do so in this instance.jedi_master wrote:I think Jay would start.
Doubt it will be ground breaking news. Probably we are interested in Jay Rod but can’t agree a fee. He’s just trying to get people to read his rag.jedi_master wrote:Nixon has tweeted he has stories on a list of clubs tomorrow, including Burnley and West Brom.
As I have just tweeted, might be a case of 2+2=5, but may not be coincidental with the rumours of us having met his release clause bubbling on here.
Might just mean he's doing another phone advert, looking after his son, or rubbing sun cream into Abbey Clancy's backside.Reecey1987 wrote:If crouch isnt on the plane when the rest of the squad fly to portugal will that mean he wont be signing ?
There's no fee to agree really as he has a release clause. Pay it and get him - don't pay it and don't get him.Blackrod wrote:Doubt it will be ground breaking news. Probably we are interested in Jay Rod but can’t agree a fee. He’s just trying to get people to read his rag.
That's been the case whenever he's mentioned us in there being news tomorrow.Blackrod wrote:Doubt it will be ground breaking news. Probably we are interested in Jay Rod but can’t agree a fee. He’s just trying to get people to read his rag.
Potentially off the left, where I feel he has historically performed best?FactualFrank wrote:SD won't break up the Wood-Barnes partnership until something happens which forces his hand. We've seen this time and time again and he'd be correct imo to do so in this instance.
Off the left, as in, instead of McNeil?jedi_master wrote:Potentially off the left, where I feel he has historically performed best?

There after mcburnie aswell cant see them getting both 30+m for the pairClaretAndJew wrote:Maupay off to Sheffield United

Not sure where this £5 has come from, the reported clause is £10m in two payments of £5m.summitclaret wrote:Jay would give us lots of options. He can play up top on his own, in a 2, in the hole and in a front 3 off either side
I think he could also play wide eg where Hendrick has been playing.
He's the perfect signing subject to medical and for £5m would be a bargin.
That was my question. Was it a new man just deciding to dispense with his services, or was his card long marked?ClaretTony wrote:Tinashe does have an eye for goal but it was clear he’d be leaving, didn’t get much game time once Stone came in.
Still a bargain, and the saving from last year to this, is more than we would have written off in the first year, so cheaper than we were committed to previously.ClaretTony wrote:Not sure where this £5 has come from, the reported clause is £10m in two payments of £5m.
Stone explained the decisions at the time. It was touch & go a year earlier whether he got a deal but a late run of form got it for him. I wasn’t surprised when he was released.IanMcL wrote:That was my question. Was it a new man just deciding to dispense with his services, or was his card long marked?
Seems odd that he is punching way above and then falls straight off the precipice.
Or the right.jedi_master wrote:Potentially off the left, where I feel he has historically performed best?
Would be a good signing, but unlikely now Lampard has gone in there.Reecey1987 wrote:Daily Star are saying Burnley are hoping to land Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori in a £15m deal.
