I think he decided on his story and then went looking for facts to support it. Essentially, Trippier hasn't played as well as Alexander-Armstrong or Walker this season, and he's better suited to wing-back than full-back. That's all the story says.

Going into rambles about playing on loan for Barnsley, is completely irrelevant - was Beckham a worse player for going to Preston? Blaming him for Sissoko's handball is quite a stretch, too.

~And he has completely missed the point with Alexander-Armstrong having the technical ability to take corners if England need the right back to do it. Trippier took corners because he is exceptionally good at it; not because Southgate had a tactical preference for right backs doing it. Trippier crosses the ball better than almost anyone.

The fact that TAA is significantly worse than Trippier defensively is conveniently ignored by the writer too despite it being his big critique of Tripps.

The Trippier witch hunt is bizzare, but hey if he wants to come back then be my guest!

Imo, Wan-Bissaka is the best all round right back in England, absolutely class: great football brain, strong & quick

Don’t think there’s many claret fans that wouldn’t welcome Tripps back, personally I think it be pure football porn watching Tripps cross them balls in for Wood & Barnes to attack.

Saw the headline and read no more.

Really dont understand all the **** aimed at trippier. Was one of it not our best players last summer. And has been a regular in spurs first champions league final.

All hes guilty of is being around when england have their strongest right back options ever.

Hes as committed, hard working and likeable player you could wish for. Add to that talented. Bizarre why spurs and the media are hanging him out to dry.

Would welcome him back here. Not that he would or should come back. Hes a top 6 player easily.

Probably because his manager sees him training and playing everyday!

Personally I still thinks he trumps any of those in front of him. I think he offers enough going forward to more than compensate for any short comings at the back... personally I Shape the team to cover him if that was what it took. I’d have him back in a heartbeat, but I expect a top coach will hold the same view of him.

It sounds like Spurs are happy for him to move on though. A proper break this summer will do him the world of good. If I were them I think I'd certainly give him the chance to prove himself next season.

I expect the abundance of creative talent there means they want defence over attacking potential. If you stuck a number 7 on his back and stuck a full back behind him he’d still be a top Premier player, I can’t think of many players who I’d rather have firing in a cross.
