QPR rename Loftus Road
QPR have given the naming rights of Loftus Road to a charity organisation set up after a youth player of theirs was stabbed to death in 2006. In this day and age where they could have received a few quid having some betting firm sponsoring the stadium, well done to them. The stadium will now be known as The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

What an amazing gesture. Massively impressed with QPR for doing this.
Re: QPR rename Loftus Road
Surely Lee Hoos can't still be involved at QPR then?
Re: QPR rename Loftus Road
clears the way for them getting a betting company in the future in my opinion

Re: QPR rename Loftus Road
It is possible to take a more cynical view of this, as suggested above, that it clears the way for a betting company to sponsor it in future. Alternatively, you could take the view that as the club is hoping to move to new stadium at Old Oak Common in the next few years, their emotional attachment to the name Loftus Road is not as strong as it once was, or that by re-naming the stadium it will ultimately make the stadium move a bit less painful. The third view is that it’s just an honourable gesture. I like the last one.

Very good by QPR. They have a betting company as shirt sponsors though so it's not all good deeds and philanthropy!
On that subject, how would fans feel if we said we are renaming Turf Moor the "Pendleside Hospice Stadium"?

Cynical but this is pretty much how Barcelona opened the door to having a shirt sponsor (I think it was Unicef in Barcelona's case).Spike wrote:clears the way for them getting a betting company in the future in my opinion

Who gives a **** what they do in the future. If they do at all. Even if its named this for one season and raises awareness, funds and positivity - especially at a time when knife crime is so bad, particularly in London.
Some people will look for the negative in any positive.
Fantastic move and a great way to honour the young lad.

Brilliant gesture by QPR, something they should rightly be lauded for.

Fair play to them! I'm not so sure about renaming the stadium after him but definitely a stand should be

What’s even better about this is they let the fans decide which charity it should be.
Well done QPR
