100 Chip H..

The OP has a Stevie Wonder album in it..?

You have a point esp where Michael Jackson is concerned
( Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad) - these artists did lots of great songs, but did they do outstanding albums?

Of course the best Soul albums are compilations, and there are so many of them.

** an album that I forgot to mention earlier

‘Making Movies’ - Dire Straits.

Chip Harrison wrote:I'm amazed there are no soul albums other than Whats Going On and Chartbusters 3. Where's Otis Blue, Aretha, Ben E King, James Brown and almost unbelievable, not one of Stevie Wonder's albums are included.
Earth Wind and Fire, Luther Vandross, Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson...bit surprised to say the least.
Maybe because this is a Burnley website.

If you put the same thread onto a website for, say, Chelsea, I imagine that you'd get a completely different set of responses. I'm struggling to think of any club which would be most appropriate for Michael Jackson. The one up the road might be a good fit for Luther van DROSS.

Was Durutti Column that band I kept seeing at the Electric Circus and Hacienda in the 80s?
I was too out of it to remember.

Seeing this made me realise I had forgotten to include Hearts of Stone by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes on my own list. An absolutely fantastic record to be recommended without hesitation to anyone who enjoys Springsteen and/or a good horn section in a band.

Good shout stalbans re Southside Johnny...a cracking album and a wonderful live act..they almost used to live at the Town and Country Club in the 1980s/90s - they are getting on a bit now.

- they managed to get a belting northern soul sound on this one.
