Yes we did .. was he ? really ? .. I didn't honestly think so ..I'd put it down to Pope and the defence to be honest ..

Just opinions .. I like Steven Defour but the question is can we carry him ? I'm not so sure.

First thing to consider aside from a very good free kick in the 2-2 at Newton Heath is his almost non-existent contribution away from home ..anonymous in most games ?
Probably struggled to get into certain games because the ball is sailing over his head constantly. Would love to see a fully fit Defour in the same team as McNeil.

No he doesn't , yes he has been very unlucky and I can tell you from personal experience that his attitude is first class

agreed I rate Jeff too ... the amount of abuse he gets is scandalous

Some of the most penetrating passes, ball retained until he decides, two wonder goals.

He is a very proper footballer!

Yes a fair point it would be good to see the two playing in the same side

When fit he may be our most technically gifted player, he certainly isn't our best player in terms of contributing to our points totals.

First away game last season, Chelsea 2 v 3 Burnley, second away game Spurs 1 v 1 Burnley. Steven Defour played a big part in those 4 points.

Tom Heaton was injured in Sept.

If Steven Defour is fit, the question is can we keep up with him. History will tell, of course. ;)

As well as he played at Spurs, the game turned out way that day when he was taken off.

Yes he did play a big part as did all of the other players .. Wardie played a big part at Stamford Bridge ..but that will be two years ago soon and he has been released ..

Nick made 35 appearances that season his contribution to our finishing 7th was huge ...

Steven made 24 appearances he is a talent yes .. I never implied he wasn't ... however and it is a big however he isn't much use to a club like ours if he can only play 24 games a season at best ..because he will only be influential in a certain number of that 24 ?

Danny Welbeck, Darren Anderton, Steven Defour, the list goes on, but all have one thing in common.

I recall Steven Defour clearing off our goal line in the 2nd half. I was amazed and delighted at his defensive efforts. He was putting more effort into the games than he'd been able to do in his first season. It looked like he'd got his "Dyche energy" levels.

I'd like to see Steven Defour produce some of those performances again in this coming season.

It would be like a new signing, some might say! ;)

Defour plays best in a 4-5-1. When Defour isn't available, Burnley play best in 4-4-2. Has Defour done enough to justify building the team round him - bearing in mind his injury record? No. IMO.

thehistorylecturer wrote:I asked my guide dog he said Trevor Steven and Martin Dobson were two Clarets' midfield footballers of the past fifty years who had lenghy careers at the top level which far outshone Mr Defour's cameos ? Trevor Steven showed more as a teenager than we have seen from Defour as an experienced player , Trevor Steven went on to play 36 times for England and won multiple league titles in three countries .. Martin Dobson is a club legend end of . Defour is technically gifted no doubt and he has been very unlucky .. and that is about it.
