Play it out from the back at all times lads, even if we give goals away!

Just keep John Stones away from the lineup.

I went down to my local here in Spain yesterday and one of my mates, who is a Spurs fan, said words to the effect of " if Burnley's defence and keeper had been playing for England, Holland would never have scored".

The problem is England fans want us to defend well yet also complain if we are defensive.

That was the general consensus in our local on Friday night (from 2 Manure and a Chelski fan too)

And he’s be about right pal. It’s only ever the big names that play for the big clubs that seem to cock up. Maybe they are guilty of thinking that are better than they actually are.

Do you not think that this different style of football isn't going to happen overnight?

Good on southgate for sticking to his principles.

Theres a time and place to play put though and time and place to hoof it. But if his philosophy is to play it out and thats his long term plan good on him.

Wouldn’t Switzerland be better off with the William Tell Overture as a national anthem?
That stirs the blood more than the dirge we’ve just sat through.

Have to say I feel a bit for John Stones. He made a few obvious mistakes against Holland, certainly, but Southgate has presumably brought him into the team to play in a similar way to the way he plays at City. Only difference being, at City he'll be used to looking up and seeing two or three players available to pass to. With England he's lucky to see one.

He doesn't play for City that often.

True, but he trains that way. He's learned that style of play, and is being expected to implement it in a team that isn't really set up for it.

Southgate seems determined to try new things, bring in fringe players and not just to rely on players from the top 6

what the **** is the point in picking a squad for him to play pretty much the same players every time ? Lads like Heaton and Wilson should just go on holiday and tell Southgate to **** off

Spot on. Our midfield were in hiding when Stones or Maguire had the ball against Holland.

And then play players like Stones, Dier, Delph, Barkley, Gomez, who are top six club players who can't get into their teams.

Sutton (in radio commentary) just stated that '...3rd place is better than 4th...'

incisive and informative!

I’ve just watched the last few mins to half time and I’m more than likely to go back to the cricket.

Can’t say I’ve been disappointed. This has been pretty much the standard a third place play off featuring a Dier-Delph-Alli midfield always promised to be.

forget clear and obvious, that's not how they are doing it at all, any foul is being given and so it should be. It does have the potential to ruin the game though if it carries on to this degree :(

Even though var has cost us twice now I'm still a massive fan as both decisions have been correct, it's just frustrating when it goes against us though!

What's the point in ever celebrating a goal? It's taking the fun out of it.

Think players who score should stand still for a minute n wait before they can celebrate or maybe not..

We can't get a penalty when one of our old players shoves someone in the back!
