Televised Premier League next season
Sky Sports will screen 32 matches on Saturdays at 5.30pm and a further eight at 7.45pm, 32 matches on Sundays at 2pm, with an additional 32 on Sundays at 4.30pm.
On top of that, Sky will also show 24 matches on Mondays or Fridays at 8pm.
BT Sport will show 32 matches in Saturdays at 12.30pm, as well as an additional 20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes.
Amazon Prime will show 20 matches from the first midweek fixture programme and the Boxing Day programme.
With 380 games to be played, I make it that over half will now be screened one way or the other.

It's bloody ridiculous that it's now spread between 3 different pay per view channels

I think it will only get worse in the next three year deal after this should it prove a success for Amazon. Totally agree with you though.Paulclaret wrote:It's bloody ridiculous that it's now spread between 3 different pay per view channels

I'm glad Amazon have got involved and are doing the All the games in one go being available. I truly believe it is the first step towards the scrapping of the UK 3pm blackout and all games being available to all, which can only be a good thing.

And then the TV companies wonder why people stream them, or use a "dodgy" boxes etc.
I pay £100 a month to sky for their whole package, if I want BT it's another outlay.
Luckily BT is crap , we didnt make the Europa league and we are hardly if ever on there, should I not be able to make the game.
I'm sure they'll come a time when I'll just wash my hands with football all together, it's getting more ridiculous each and every season.
If it's not the ticket prices it's the transfer fees and wages, if it's not that it's the varying kick off days and times, if it's not that it's the multiple platforms you need to watch it.
They said TV would ruin they game, it sure has IMO

Re: Televised Premier League next season
That would be a complete disaster for English football and it is good to see organisations working very hard to ensure that the 3 p.m. blackout remains. It would kill grassroots football. It can only be a bad thing.Foshiznik wrote:I truly believe it is the first step towards the scrapping of the UK 3pm blackout and all games being available to all, which can only be a good thing.

Re: Televised Premier League next season
It's a flawed argument in my opinion. There are plenty of exiled fans of clubs who cannot afford to attend their supported club and don't follow their local team. There is enough demand to watch football in the grounds that I just cannot see it being a major impact on attendances.ClaretTony wrote:That would be a complete disaster for English football and it is good to see organisations working very hard to ensure that the 3 p.m. blackout remains. How would it impact grassroots football? do you mean kids and saturday league football or local non-league clubs?

Amazon make all / much more games available at a decent price - as a result attendances fall.
Clubs reduce prices to attract fans as they don't need the money due to increasing revenue from TV
TV viewing figure reduce they therefore reduce what they pay to for the TV deals and as a result clubs put up prices to make up for the shortfall.
People stop going on and subscribe to TV packages and the whole thing starts again

There are many more people who stream or watch soccer saturday and don't go to games than there are people who will stop going. The whole package of going to a game is infinitely better than the tv coverage. If you drop that to watch it on TV, I would question your support, particularly if you live local to the club.Goobs wrote:Could be the start of a vicious circle.

Since I ditched Sky apathy has set in and a have got out of the habit of watching live football on television. I can make do with watching Burnley and my son play. I’m sure I can’t be the only one.

The trouble is, some of us live too far away to get to every Burnley game and I certainly wont go to watch Bournemouth! Will just make more people switch to using dodgy IPTV services where you can get all the channels for a fraction of the price.

I'm in a similar situation to you in that I live in Bristol and have no connection to Rovers or City here.Paulclaret wrote:The trouble is, some of us live too far away to get to every Burnley game and I certainly wont go to watch Bournemouth! I pay for Sky and BT sports, but I stream every Burnley game. I would happily pay the same for a TV season ticket for the Clarets games and lose all of the other channels.

btw Amazon effectively got their games at cost to produce - PL (via their outsourced production) do everything, Amazon broadcast

Re: Televised Premier League next season
You may be right about numbers of people switching actually as there is some that would probably pay double what they do now to keep going on if the prices went up like that and it was more of a tongue in cheek comment anyway.Foshiznik wrote:There are many more people who stream or watch soccer saturday and don't go to games than there are people who will stop going. I wouldn't ever question anybodies support as you don't know people's circumstances and if it was a case of £300 (figure picked out of thin air) to see all your teams home and away games on PPV TV against £400 per person for a family to attend only home games then sometimes people may be forced to judge whether they can justify the massive difference in spend.

I've got Amazon Prime membership (free via my health insurance for some reason) so depending on if BFC are away on those two fixtures it'll be a free match for me to watch at least.
Never going to pay for Sky or BT though just for footy.

The issue isn't so much the premier league teams losing attendances it's Accy Stanley, Rotherham, Rochdale, Hartlepool, etc. They don't have the TV money to reduce prices nor the attendances to suck up the losses when, rather than Man Utd v Liverpool being on at 12.30 so you can watch it before the match it's on at 3.00 so you have to choose.Goobs wrote:Could be the start of a vicious circle.

As soon as you bin it off, you don't miss it at all. I'll catch up on Man Utd v Liverpool on Match of the Day maybe, but that's it. Burnley at the Turf, local non-league or my kid's football is where it's at now.
Those 7.45pm Saturday games are the worst but we've sold our soul and taken an absolute shed load of cash to be fair, so we'll have to accept it.

[quote="If there's one thing I've noticed on a very long thread is that a lot of people underestimate the power and importance of collective bargaining.[/quote]
It is so important to competition that
- it is the foundation of the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL (the major sports of the greediest nation of earth)
- the reason Real and Barca have moved into a collective bargaining structure in La Liga
- Germany does it for the top 2 tiers together and France it's top 3 tiers
The end of collective bargaining is likely to happen in England first because no one trusts anyone else - how many remember that during the 90's the EFL turned down an offer from the Premier League to collectively bargain for all 4 divisions - it really did happen
EDIT I have found the interview where this was revealed https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foo ... 83471.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are a few fans of Burnley, Bolton, Blackburn who are football fans and like watching other games. They’ll still go watch Stanley over watching the TV. Because they like taking in games. Like I said a fan of the PL won’t go watch lower league football now as it already stands.

Re: Televised Premier League next season
If I'm not watching us on a Saturday I'll sometimes go and watch Colne. If I had the option of staying in the pub and watching a live game I might not bother, that's the problem it causes for lower league/grassroots football. Not to mention local amateur football, which is already dieing on its arse.

Unfortunately I don't think anything will stop the march towards all ELP games being transmitted live on UK TV. Money doesn't care about the lower leagues, semi-pro or grassroots. Throw another chunk of big money at the EPL clubs and they'd vote for it tomorrow if they could.

It's like whining about the sun coming up in the morning is Premier League football on the tele.
Oh, have some others got a piece of the Aussie Lizard's slice? What a shame.
As I've said before, if Burnley weren't in it then it would barely exist to me.

They need to stagger kick offs. Saturdays 1pm for non-league and local, 4pm for League.
The non-league matches are regionalised therefore the early ko doesn’t inconvenience travelling fans as much. It also allows local club players to play and then get on for the match.

Re: Televised Premier League next season
Interestingly the clubs in the Premier League feel there are too many Live games - the reason there are so many and multiple broadcastors is down to the competition authorities and organisations complaints from organisations like Virgin Media who have no desire to buy a package of PL TV rights but would rather pick and choose the individual game they want and bid solely for that - Richard Branson a self created "friend of the people" who actually contrived to create the explosion in rights values in the hope it would weaken his competitorsWile E Coyote wrote:it was far better with hardly any live games anywhere, only MOTD, now its a free for all with dreadful rival companies vying for subscribers.
Feels as grubby as it could get.

Re: Televised Premier League next season
Wasn’t it marketed that it would be better for fans if Sky’s monopoly was broken. It would bring down the cost of watching on tv. Never worked though did it? You could watch all sky’s live games for about £20 a month. When it was split up, you ended up with 3 broadcasters all charging £20 a month. So tv football became more expensive.Chester Perry wrote:Interestingly the clubs in the Premier League feel there are too many Live games - the reason there are so many and multiple broadcastors is down to the competition authorities and organisations complaints from organisations like Virgin Media who have no desire to buy a package of PL TV rights but would rather pick and choose the individual game they want and bid solely for that - Richard Branson a self created "friend of the people" who actually contrived to create the explosion in rights values in the hope it would weaken his competitors
On another note, all these different kick off times and days most weaken the overseas broadcast rights in some countries. Here in Australia games are now midweek mornings with 5am kick offs. There are now very few games on Saturday night.
