Set to be appointed as new Boro boss.(BBC)

Robbie Keane "confirms" he has held talks to become JW's assistant manager. (Irish Sun/teesside live)

I was up in Boro last weekend, mixed feeling by the natives, some think he has too much Boro in him to do a decent job and will be out by Christmas. I suppose the odds are against him but some have to succeed so we'll see.

I’m sure JW is a nice bloke and he was certainly a decent full back until injuries... but he seems to be one of those that football refuses to let fade away from the game and I don’t really understand the fascination in him... he’s survived being a crock for years while earning good contracts. Seems a non-appointment to me, but I may just be missing something.

I know Tony Pulis didn't pull up any trees, but I fail to see how Woodgate will be an upgrade on the tactical/ experience front.

Time will tell, but not hopeful for him.

Seems more a "he's one of our own," appointment unless he possesses an amazing skill-set. Should have been assistant to someone with the right track record.

Now here's a leap into the dark from Muddlesbrough.

Seems a bit desperate. Could be fun to keep an eye on their results again next year!

In 2000, he was a defendant with teammate Lee Bowyer in a Crown Court trial due to his involvement in an incident outside the Majestyk nightclub in Leeds, in which a student suffered severe injuries.

Bowyer was cleared of charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while Woodgate was convicted of affray and sentenced to 100 hours' community service.

Yes seems like a nice bloke :D

I don't think Gibson gives his Managers long enough, he bows every time to the supporter, so I suppose their to blame really. One Boro resident told me if he'd stuck with Kranke they might by now have been heading in the right direction and had some stability.

Nobody on here wanted Dyche, I remember threads slagging off Gerrard and Lampard for getting into management last year, why are people so negative on here? Why are people so against others doing well?

I take your point, KBRFC, regarding Dyche being feared as an unknown quantity but it is a fact that he'd a fair bit of experience at senior coaching level and was ready to move up to the next level.
I'm not sure Woodgate has.
As for Lampard, his only skill was having the contacts to enable him to loan three decent players. He'll go, they'll go and Derby will be screwed.
When it came to the crunch, his decisions were bemusing.

Another young, English manager. Yet many (as above) want to criticise him and write him off before he has even started.
Probably the same people who moan there arent enough young english managers in the game !

Yes, good luck to the lad. He had a lot of bad luck with serious injuries. He didn't get injured deliberately & can't help the body he's given.
He always seemed to read a game well & have a fair degree of organisational ability on the pitch. Managing a club you've started your career with can be difficult, so here's hoping he doesn't turn into their Brian Laws!.
