Scratchcards - What's the most you have won ?

Got a real problem with these addictive little things at the moment, every time I go to the shop either it be Tesco for a £100 shop or to the petrol station for a bottle of milk I always end up buying one.

Just looked in the kitchen draw and found £40 worth of losing scratchcards just from last week. Iv won on a few the odd fiver and tenner and £40 twice but never nothing higher.

I know I am trying to get that big win and I'm not going to lie I get a buzz whilst scratching JUST in case I do win that mega 300k.

What are the chances are we talking really slim ?

What's the most you have ever won ?

After the asda big shop one day about 2 years ago, I played a £2 "lucky 7" scratchcard where you had 7 chances to win 77k if you revealed a 7 on that column.

Big does and little does, I scratch the columns off before the prize at the end of each column.
I went down each column, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7 ,7, 7, and 7 , I was in for a "big prize" my heart was going, I called the wife in from the kitchen as she was "putting away" and together arched over the dining room table, I start scratching off each prize slowly. £5, £10, £10, £20, £5, £10, £15

£75! Big prize my ass. I was sweating, shaking everything.
I got a good run for my £2, but in truth I was majorly disappointed.

Think I've spent £10 in my whole life on them so I'm up on my outlays.
I used to usually only buy them if I'd spent 3 or 4 quid in the shop and it was a minimum £5 spend to pay on card, so I'd buy a £1 or £2 one.
Now I buy more milk or chewing gum, as they're a con!

On a side note, I know the girl from Burnley who won the 250k top prize at asda about 5 years ago!

Just think of the money you have wasted buying scratch cards Jim ... work out how much you have spent and how much you have won... then multiply that by several million and you will see what a waste of money they are.... for the majority of people (most of whom in reality cannot afford it)

In the 25 years we have had the National Lottery scratch card I have probably bought 10 (and won a fiver) ...

Regarding the Nation Lottery, when they lifted the price and increased the number of Balls in the National Lottery from 49 to 59 I stopped doing that as well ... we used to do the same 3 lines of numbers every week.
I look to see if my numbers would have come up, even to this day ... No they havent ... so I have saved a few grand already.

Like you say you do the scratch cards and/or Lottery for one reason ... the chance you might be the one who gets that big one.

How many people do you know who have won a reasonably large amount. I bet its not many.

It’s called the idiot tax for a reason. Give it up, you won’t win.

As somebody who doesn't use scratchcards, people buying scratchcards is one of my pets hates. I've been in a rush a few times stuck behind them, usually takes them ages to convey to the cashier which specific one they want as well. Then you have the ones who actually scratch and check it at the checkout

I would give up checking if your lottery numbers would of come up because if one day they do and you didn't put it on I dread to think !

Even worse than doing the lottery because all people tend to do if they win is buy even more. A real opportunity to get addicted to gambling.

£4million. A bloke I know lent me his debit card and when I went in the shop, my mate and I bought a scratchcard and hit the jackpot. Not stopped celebrating since, just waiting for that cheque from Camelot to land on the doormat then it's gonna be spend spend spend......

On a serious note, friends of my parents won the Lottery jackpot a few years ago. I don't know how much but they were the sole winners back when the jackpots were larger than they are now. We think in the region of £10m. The wife of the couple was a nurse at BGH at the time and was also part of a syndicate with other nurses, however it was her personal numbers and ticket that was the winner. That's where the trouble started. She had the Police on her doorstep as one of the other syndicate members accused her of theft, even though they all had a copy of the numbers and she could demonstrate that the winning ticket wasn't part of this collection and it was in fact her regular numbers that she used on a weekly basis.

She found out who her friends were, the investigation was quickly concluded by the Police and they collected their winnings. Many people who she worked with for years who she classed as friends showed their true colours and haven't spoken to them since. Apart from a bigger house in a nicer area and a couple of classic cars for the husband, they are still the same people, my parents are still friends with them and still enjoy going out for dinner with them.

Same as when they used to go out with the couple when she was a nurse, 50/50 straight down the middle.

Way back in the 80's my sister (who isn't really into footy) went into the old Woolies in Burnley and for reasons unknown and as a total "one off" bought a Burnely FC scratchcard from a little kiosk they had in there with an advertised top prize £1000. She scratched it off and found she'd won £1000! How many people actually thought those top prizes never really existed? She had to pick up her winnings from the football club and when she did so they asked her to formally receive it on the pitch at half time during a game, but she refused and simply skipped off with the cheque!

Back in the 80s, if she had taken a pair of boots with her there was a chance she would have got on a sub in the second half :D

My debit card has just had £4m credited to it. No idea why.

But more seriously, who do you think makes money - the punters, or Camelot? I'll give you a clue - you never hear of Camelot directors using food banks.

I don't think I've ever bought a scratchcard. I used run a syndicate (8 of us) for the national lottery when it was a quid a throw, but I jacked it when they raised the price to £2.00.

A friend of a really good mate of mine in Leeds won a decent amount.

He thought it was £30, his wife thought it was £300 and the bloke in the corner shop, £3000.

He won £300k and still works in the family business after using a fair chunk to pay off the family mortgages.

My mate says he hasn't changed a bit.

I’m trying to think if millions would change me. I don’t think it would. There’s things I’d like to do. Things I’d like but nowt ridiculous to be honest. It all depends on what you’re like I suppose. If your a “material” person the chances are you’re already a **** anyway.

Not a scratch card but the sister in law of a guy I work with won £14m.

They were skint so he paid for the celebratory meal and champagne and never got a penny of this back.

She even forced her dad to change his Will back so her kids would inherit part of his very small estate which she happily stood by when most was swallowed up by funeral costs.

Hasten to say they don't speak and they got robbed having flaunted their vast wealth online

Why not? I wish someone would give me £50k for nothing. Were they offended by being offered the money?

More fool them. If they didn't want to give a whole lottery ticket as a birthday present, they should have handed it over with a signed contract explaining that they were only giving 50p, not a whole pound.
