Sheff Utd in for Ribery

Post by Quickenthetempo » Thu Jun 13, 2019 11:49 am

It's not a rumour I thought I would be seeing but fair play if they could pull that one off.

You can almost imagine his reaction when his agent says Sheff Utd have asked about you.

Probably didn't know if to say Who or No thanks first

Wasn't he involved in a "scandal" a few years ago?

Will be interested in the reaction if this was to happen after the uproar around the Ched Evans case

Wages will do it all by themselves.

Plus he's a winner, has been for years and stepping into a dressing room where the ability of players is several degrees lower means he's going to be annoyed with them most of the time because they won't have the same vision on the pitch of where to play the ball.

Defour had the same issues with some of our players if I remember rightly, hence some of the changes to personnel after his first season.

You think we got rid of players that weren't on the same level as Defour? I can't say I noticed or was aware.

Ribery could go either way. He's quite capable of winning 6 or 7 games all by himself. Gives them a chance of staying up. Which they don't seem to have at the minute.

Boyd, it was reported on here by Claret Tony if I remember rightly

Sheff utds issue is their ownership battle, until that's sorted they've got no chance

I'm generally more interested in who we sign as opposed to others but Ribery would be a coup and generate a lot of interest in Sheffield United.

I'm sure their shirt sales and telly appeal would increase.

They might just pay him a 4m signing on bonus and 40k a week?

Being a free transfer it will work for all parties.

Don’t buy into ruining the dressing room rubbish. Fair enough if they go and get Mooy or whoever and pay him £100k more a week. I’m more than sure the Sheff Utd players wouldn’t care less how much more Ribery would earn. He’s a great player and would seriously help the team staying a PL team.

Yeah the players would care how much someone else is on.
It means they will assume the club can afford to improve their own contracts and they'll be telling their agents as much, or the agents will already be eyeing up the money.

Plus they aren't good enough to play alongside Ribery, their lack of ability means he'd be wasted playing for them.
It would be like us signing Messi, pretty pointless on the pitch because he'd be so far ahead of the rest of the players we wouldn't get the ball to and from him at the right times.

Not sure. I reckon Lionel Messi could probably improve us, and I say that as a fan of Ashley Westwood's effort last season.

Disagree. If you work alongside someone who you feel has the same level of ability as you but earns twice as much, you would feel aggrieved. If you work alongside someone who has twice the ability you have then you understand their value is more to the business.

It would cause issues if their work rate was poor but I just don't see Ribery being that kind of person

He'd improve any team, but my point is if our players aren't able to spot the same through balls or position themselves to receive the ball from him he'd be wasted.

Yeah because football agents think exactly like you're suggesting....
They'll be knocking on the door wanting more money for their clients the minute Ribery signed.
Then when they're told to sod off they'll be in the ear of their clients suggesting they can earn more elsewhere etc.

That's football, especially as some on here were adamant that Hart's wages were part of the problem last season when he was first choice.

Messi is probably a bad example to be honest. I know what you’re saying though. A bit like do dar at Fulham last season (name escapes me?)

I don’t see it as a problem. If we got Ronaldo on 400k a week I can’t imagine Cork or Barnes having a problem. Players ain’t thick. They’ll no how good/talented some other players are. If we got Jay Rod on 100k a week then that possibly could cause problems.

The only issue would be is Riberys attitude. If he walks in thinking he’s above everyone that would cause issues. If he walks in and is on the other players level, one of the lads so to speak it’ll be amazing for team spirit.

Personally if it was me, and a player who had achieved far more than I ever had or would in the game, gave us a better chance of staying up and thus improving my own profile and earning potential, not to mention the chance to play alongside him I wouldn't care less how much he was on!

Give it a rest, you are talking about a team of Premier League footballers! This isn't him trapping up Belvedere for a game in the ressies, he'd be playing in a Premier League team, the bulk of whom are internationals!
