Tarks is probably about 30m quid worth of defender currently, should he get back in and play for England as well as playing well for us this season, his value is likely to rise toward the 50m mark. A good year will see him valued in the same bracket as Keane.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that Dyche wants two players for each position. Mee and Gibson at left cb and tarks and long at right cb. Gibson has had to be patient, as has long due to the form and fitness of our main two.

Gibson was only a suspension or injury away from a run in the side(as was vydra possibly).

No real reason that two 2 left footed cb’s can’t play together either.

When Burnley were relegated to third division I’m the early 80’s my Dad was moved from lb to cb (bit like Dawson rb and cb) wracking my brains to think who he was paired with (big vince?dobbo?), maybe you could help CT? Worked out ok.

I wouldn’t be selling for less than 50m so hope they do one. Definitely worth 30-40m at the current rates, can’t be far behind maguire in ability

Yes but at the cost of his overlapping. Did well at CH but he was a top full back.

Brian Miller moved your Dad to centre-back for the second half of the '81/'82 season when we were Champions of Division Three. It worked really well but David had three partners there until the end of the season, Micky Phelan, big Vince and even Paul Dixon for 4 or 5 games.

At the start of the following season '82/'83 your Dad continued there for the first dozen or so games and was partnered in each one by Micky Phelan. Of course we ended that season relegated back into Division Three. Did your Dad retire in '83?

Yes worth whatever Manchester pays for Maguire, less 10mill.

Apparently Man Utd are offering £70M & Phil Jones for Maguire, Leicester are holding out for the £70M...

He did pal, mid way through the season, his business had taken over his life (and he was struggling to keep his fitness 100% to keep up with the youngsters!).

I had Micky phelan at the back of my mind. Shows what a versatile player he was!

Wan-Bisakka, 21 years old, less than 40 professional games, no England cap - 60 million
I would hope the least we would get for Tarks will be 50 million (he's not worth it but we should try and get that given what others are going to go for)

Wan-Bissakka is only a young lad though and is already a great player with still time to improve. Tarks is a bang average centre half who is unlikely to improve much now.

If the valuations regarding Maguire and Tarkowski are reasonably accurate that would make Maguire ay least twice as good, which simply isn't the case. He may be better going forward but he certainly isn't better at defending.

Not how it works unfortunately. Sometimes players are just better than others despite having played less games and not having a full international cap.

Sun reporting Newcastle and West Brom after Conor Coady for around £7m

Would gladly take him in part exchange and still only 26

As mentioned previously, it would be better to try and get a player in the deal, then the fee we need to pay Brentford would reduce I think.

If Coady is available, it might be worth enquiring as he's a good defender, captain, northern lad and is a defender who defends ( sounds obvious, but not seen him take silly risks or try to be something he isnt )

Could be a good option and no reason we can't compete for his signature.

That is a surprise - I’m pretty sure he played every minute of every premier league game for Wolves last season.

I think they're trying for the next level now, after all the finished 7th last season, and made a major semi final.
Think they had plans to be a top 4 a challenging side in 5 seasons.

An unfashionable scouse CB probably wont fit into the glitz and glamour of moving forward and trying to build the clubs profile.

How successful it will be time will tell

Thought he was excellent for them last season and many "football" people were saying he had a chance of getting in England squad

£7m seems way too cheap for me

Can't see Wolves thinking he is the first to be improved on. Isn't he the club captain and played every minute of the season ?

For a club that has serious backing can't see them even entertaining 7m

I agree, so if its anywhere near that we should be enquiring.

Is he a football playing CB though? That's what they'll be wanting, they want to evolve. An old school defender isnt usually what these fancy foreign coaches like when playing the beautiful game.

My opinion is I'd rather take Coady at 10m than Dawson at 10m. I know the premier league experience isn't the same, but the quality, leadership and defensive skills are IMO. And at a very good age too. Many years left in Coady and still time to develop and reach his peak.

Coady is Wolves Captain...played every minute of every Premier League game in a side that finished 7th...and he's being linked with West Brom ??

It's all very well talking about buying younger players and thinking that they can grow into the team. Dawson for example was 25 and you'd think that is a good age, we could make money if we sell him on.
He's 27 in January and so far has made 5 appearances!

In all the discussions about capability, am I dreaming when I think a year with SD would improve most central defender's performance and being in our defensive structure would add some more?

If that's true about coady I would snap wolves' hand off for him. Perhaps a cash plus player deal would suit both parties. 30m plus coady and they have a deal.

Coady is a decent CB in a 3 ATB formation, but even as captain, he isn’t on the same level as Boly. And I think he’d be exposed in a 2.

Wolves are a ruthless club remember. Barry Douglas was a key player in their promotion campaign, but they clearly didn’t think he was capable of playing that well at a higher level, so out the door he went. Whether you agree with it or not, the idea that Wolves would be willing to simply offload Coady for a better centre half is not far-fetched.

Generally not, they looked at the cash or the cash equivalent (which is what a player in part exchange would be). The arguments obviously come when trying to value that part-ex player ...

Tarks is still under-rated. As he has been by many on here since he first signed. He will improve further and hopefully convince more doubters. I just hope he does it here rather than elsewhere.

What length contract do we think Coady should get? Older than Tarkowski but can play a few more positions by sound of it.

As has been stated above, coady is/was a centre mid when he was coming thru at Liverpool and all his loans he played there, the shift was last year to play in the middle I think of 2 proper defenders to act as a sweeper and abit of a ball player.

Not sure how he would get on in a 2, not sure if we are linked. All ifs and buts at the moment.
