So they won't be 'Frank Lampards' Derby anymore....
It's just one big disappointment after another for Ram's fans these days.

We can still refer to them as FLD though.

Good appointment in my eyes.

Hopefully he is given time and patience, especially if his strategy is one of bringing through young, homegrown talent!

It doesn't matter if it's his strategy or not, it's the only option they've got this summer/season

Like many said about him moving to Derby. Where he did a very good job.

He'll get plenty of help in the early days - then they'll get shut. :D

Indeed. Had it not been Frank Lampard it would have been considered all a bit meh.

He finished with a point less than Derby had the previous season

I like Lampard and I'm impressed with what he's done so far to date, especially at such a basket case of a club, but he did no better than the previous manager...

I too like Lampard and if he gets the gig, I hope he does well (except when they play us).
However, I can't help thinking its a hell of a step up, given the exacting standards at Stamford Bridge and Romans itchy trigger finger.

Rather like Moyes at Man U.

This is very simple.

If he wasn’t Frank Lampard he would not be even remotely considered for this gig.

Chelsea finished 3rd last year, won the Europa and reached another Cup Final. It is absolutely wild that they are choosing to replace that manager with somebody who had a season marginally above par in the Championship.

That’s not to say it won’t work. But it is a massive, massive, massive gamble.

As with Potter (now at Brighton) they should be left in the championship to prove themselves.

Spot on.
In fact, completely unarguable.

But one they might as well make- especially if they're hit with a transfer embargo cos if it's confirmed no big-name European manager will go near & there's always the chance the youngsters will prove themselves. If not, out he goes in time for the end of the embargo & a clean start.

Significant cost cutting. Limited investment. And sales.

did a good job. Especially getting into the play off final. Ultimately beaten by a far better team.

Except as you pointed out at a basket case club, with no investment and no experience himself.

The points comment is completely irrelevant. The aim was to finish top 6. He finished top 6. in the same position. Don't understand how the points even matter, its where you finish.

Liverpool finished on 97 points. The second highest prem points total ever. Better than the great Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal teams. Better than all City teams but one. They lost only once. Second best record ever. They didn't win the league.

But he is Frank Lampard.

As for Sarri, he hardly had a stellar record.

Chelsea have the best record of any club in hiring and firing managers. Like it or not their strategy works.

The points comment is irrelevant if you're not interested in how he did compared to previous Derby managers.

You aren't interested.

Like I said, he did ok, but worse than the previous bloke.
If that's good enough for him to get the Chelsea job then fine, good luck to him because I do like Lampard and it would be interesting to see a young English manager finally given a shot at a top job.

It's also interesting how they've completely avoided another young English manager who's got far more managerial experience in the PL, Eddie Howe.....

Interesting how his pal JT isn't being lined up to assist
Did a great job at Derby especially stopping Dirty Leeds going up.
But its a one to two season gig with a hugh payoff as he gets the inevitable sack. Its Chelsea after all

He won the Europa League.

He lost on penalties in another cup final.

The only two teams to finish above him in the league were arguably the two greatest in the history of the Premier League.

All this after taking the job after pre-season started. In his first season.

Use some critical thinking. Don’t just repeat platitudes you hear on TalkSport.

And if he’s getting the job because he’s Frank Lampard .... why not give the gig to Kerry Dixon? He’s got more managerial experience and is a Chelsea legend too.

Clearly not as they didnt get promoted.
But he clearly had some talented players for free, that probably weren't available to other clubs

Wouldn't say a very good job, the Sheffield united and Norwich managers did very good jobs.

I’d expect Lampard to do quite well initially at least. He’s treated like a God in West London and will command respect from all levels of the club.

I also think he’ll make a very good manager in the longer term given time, how long he gets is another question given it’s Chelsea.

The points are completely irrelevant. Means nothing. Where you finish is what matters. Not how many points you got. Ask Liverpool fans.

He finished in the same position. He did equally well in that respect. Even better when you consider the expectation and pressure on him, the lack of backing and the fact it was his first ever season.
