Just when you thought you'd seen it all in football.......

.......Virtually no accounting records kept in respect of the £10.25m expenditure......Over 30 suspects under investigation.........Police using the word 'corruption' for the first time........Director banned from involvement in any company activity for the next 10 years.

You really couldn't make it up and poor old Northampton won't have a clue how it all ends.

Just read the link and it says part of the investigation is into Northampton South parliamentary party.
The Tory MP was born in Burnley.........

Now there is nothing to suggest he has anything to do with the investigation, but thought I'd point out the coincidence.

It sounds like one of those cases that will take years to bring to court, due to the number of people involved, and the amount of evidence to collect. They should offer them the chance to cop to it now, or have the time taken to investigate adding to their sentence if they are eventually found guilty.

How does the Council pay out £10 million of a loan when, if the developer is correct, only £2.3 million work had been done on the new stand? Why not release the funds when the work has been completed?

Didn't Coventry play at Northampton during this period?

As I understand it it isn't the current MP who is in question but a former MP who also used to be the leader of Northampton Borough Council is implicated. The whole thing absolutely stinks and I'd be very surprised if no one goes to prison over it.

This has been going on a while I think.

I think it was alleged some money from the council to improve the ground was used to build an extension on their house instead?
I’m sure they found the plans during a raid and linked it back to that cash.

It certainly has, I stopped subscribing to Private Eye a couple of years ago and they'd been running this story for at least a year then. They (used to) do quite a lot of digging around local government suspected corruption ("Rotten Boroughs")

Desperately worrying news and not the type of funds that can be just cobbled together.

Not sure where they are with the stand now but this pic was taken in May 2015. I wasn't aware of all this at Northampton until I saw the David Conn article yesterday.

I drive past quite regularly and from the outside the stand doesn't look much different to that picture from 2015.
