Australia v Sri Lanka
Australia v Sri Lanka
Anyone watching? Finch played a brilliant innings, Sri Lanka started like a house on fire chasing the biggest total, settled into a decent game, Sri Lanka wobbling at the moment and the rate is creeping up.
Re: Australia v Sri Lanka

Going the way of the Aussies now just when I thought we might be in for a really good finish. Three SL wickets just gone down for 23 runs.
Chasing 335 they are now 215/5.

Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
And 6 down now
Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
Terrible batting, sensational opening 10 then let the rate creep out of hand and put pressure on themselves and panicked completely.ClaretTony wrote:Going the way of the Aussies now just when I thought we might be in for a really good finish. Three SL wickets just gone down for 23 runs.

Rate was nothing like out of hand. Was still less than 8 when the wickets started to go. All but over now with 9 down.KRBFC wrote:Terrible batting, sensational opening 10 then let the rate creep out of hand and put pressure on themselves and panicked completely.

Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
Easy 87 run win for Australia
Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
The rate was quickly getting out of hand after such a great opening 10, the runs dried up pretty much as soon as the opening wicket fell. All the captain had to do was keep rotating strike, bat through the Maxwell spell and let Mendis play himself in.ClaretTony wrote:Rate was nothing like out of hand. I'm enjoying the World Cup, but the one disappointment so far is that there have been very few exciting finishes.
Both today's matches have been so one-sided

Sri Lanka another team who put the opposition in and then ended chasing a total pretty much out of reach. They really should have batted first. Having said that, Sri lanka were also not the first team seemingly easing their way towards the big target, but then simply imploded and fell away badly. To me it's so obvious. Win the toss, post a score (more than the 126 that Afghanistan score today of course) and then set about defending it.

Australia are defiantly the team to beat at this World Cup.
They have the strongest batting line up and the best bowlers.
England’s World Cup hopes rely on the injuries to Roy and Morgan because unfortunately we do not have replacements of anywhere near the same quality.

Pressure seems to be telling batting 2nd,the highest successful chase so far is NZ-Bangladesh when the Kiwi's just got over the line facing 244.Dark Cloud wrote:Sri Lanka another team who put the opposition in and then ended chasing a total pretty much out of reach. The contest between bat and ball has been far more equal than anticipated, mainly due to the spinners featuring strongly.
Still question marks over this Aussie team, but when you have someone like Aaron Finch, and Mitchell Starc in your corner, you've always got a chance.
The telling time for Australia might come if Finch fails,he surely is due a low score at some point, then the metal of their other batters will be tested.

Absolutely agree and I also think we'll see what the Aussies are really made of when somebody decides to bat first against them and posts a decent score (because batting first you're under far less pressure) and the Aussies then have to chase.tiger76 wrote:Pressure seems to be telling batting 2nd,the highest successful chase so far is NZ-Bangladesh when the Kiwi's just got over the line facing 244.

And just to illustrate my earlier point, how silly were Pakistan to allow arguably the best batting line up in the tournament first knock today?? Absolutely bonkers in my book!

Is Starc still the same bowler now that some of the (*ahem) 'assistance' has been removed from his bowling?tiger76 wrote:Pressure seems to be telling batting 2nd,the highest successful chase so far is NZ-Bangladesh when the Kiwi's just got over the line facing 244.

No, doesn't get anywhere near as much movement on the ball now. Compare him to Trent Boult, who seems to get movement no matter the conditions.Foulthrow wrote:Is Starc still the same bowler now that some of the (*ahem) 'assistance' has been removed from his bowling?

Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
Windies actually batted pretty well today, especially considering Gayle was garbage and got a duck, but their bowling was pants and they quickly became a shambles when fielding and were amateurish to say the least. Bangaladesh cantered home and with about 9 overs to spare they'd have made 400 if they'd batted first!!! Why on earth do Windies keep picking that guy who can barely walk and falls over and breaks down after 3 balls in every single game??? They MUST have someone else!!!

Re: Australia v Sri Lanka
Probably the most impressive display we've seen at this WC,Bangladesh always looked in control, and to chase 320+ and romp home with 8 overs to spare is some achievement, the Windies have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous,Gayle is past his best and their bowling is ineffective and injury-prone.
