Headingley parking

Post by nil_desperandum » Sun Jun 16, 2019 10:09 am

Looking forward to the England / Sri Lanka game on Friday, and weather forecast is decent for Thursday / Friday.
Not been for about 3 years.
Any recommendations for parking, or is it simpler to take Train from Burnley MR to Leeds then either walk or take bus?
(It's about 40 minutes walk form station according to my app.)

I wouldn't bother trying to drive in or out of Leeds anywhere near rush hour mate. I'd get the train from Burnley or Steeton. From Leeds you can get a train to either Burley Park or Headingley that will take you right to the ground. If you don't mind walking it's about 40 minutes, but mainly uphill.

Take the Train to Leeds (whichever way is easiest... personally I would drive to Steeton and park there, but if you are Burnley based then Manchester Rd is the better option) then there are Buses up to Headingley direct from Leeds Station...

Headingley Mount, top end, just off St. Anne’s Road...or any of the parallel roads, as long as they’re north of Canterbury Drive which dissects them all half way up the hill.

You can park anywhere in Burley.... loads of places on Mayville Road for example. Well within ten minutes walk to the ground. Headingley is absolutely fine to park at. Been to several sell-outs there and had no problem. Just don’t drive back towards the ground to get away. Thanks arming in Burley is good as you’re straight down the hill to Kirkstall Road and the motorway from there. J

It’s a long walk from Leeds City Station. I did it enough times as a student. I lived just behind Burley Park train station, lots of places to park there and a short 5 min walk to the ground. Or as others said, get the train from Leeds to Burley Park.

Thanks for the advice so far.
Most likely will get the 7.30 from Burnley to Leeds via Tod which arrives at about 9.00am.(t's only just over £11 return with Senior Card)
If i'm sat around on the cricket from 10.30 till whenever, then the 45 minute walk will be just what is required if I'm to achieve my daily target of 10,000 steps! (We may well get a taxi back if game goes the distance)

Quicker to go direct than change at Tod

Agreed, but it doesn't really work as well Tony.
The next direct train doesn't arrive until 9.35, which is pushing it bit (esp. if delayed), and the previous one means setting off earlier, and you only save 15 minutes journey time.

To be honest I hadn’t looked at the times, but that makes sense.

Re post 4:
New Station Street is closed to buses at the moment, so S10 is suspended. You can catch the 19/19A from Infirmary Street, far side of City Square from the station.

If catching the train from Leeds, I always found that getting off at Burley Park (first stop out of Leeds) was the better walk, however if catching the train back go to Headingley (second stop out of Leeds) as then you'll find you can get on the train before the others get on at Burley!
Think a taxi to the ground cost about £8-10 so if there's a few of you this might be even the better option
