Presumably youre referring to Joe Hart .I thought by and large he was outstanding when he was in the side.

Joe is as good as Nick and Tom at shot stopping. But is so hesitant to come off his line the defence then lacks confidence in him and we concede.

That in a nutshell is Joe's problem and that leads to jitters - great shot stopper but there is so much more to a keeper than that. Tom inspires confidence and that rubs off on the defence.

Maybe Tom has got the feeling Pope is going to be our number 1 from next season.

Linked with Bournemouth as was Pope just before he signed his new deal and Hart. Mind you, no wonder they are desperate for a new goalkeeper having seen Begovic and Boruc last season.

Tom will be happy to stay here as long as he's playing. If he thinks that isn't going to be the case then it wouldn't be a surprise to see him want to move.

If he doesn't want to sign a new deal and Pope is fully fit then sell Heaton and get the next understudy in.

Hart can go as well.

Sell him to Villa or Bournemouth for £10 million+ and make Pope number one. Sad to see him go but it's the sensible thing to do.

Heaton is hesitant too to come off his line. Hart's main problem was the under performance of lowton / Taylor / mee / tarky (probably not 100% fit) / cork in front of him in the first half of the season. The crowd and utc posters are more confident with Heaton in goal.

Getting rid of Heaton and Hart would leave us very thin with only Legzdins as back up.
If the pair were to leave I'd like to see us try to sign Etheridge from Cardiff, i think he could become a top quality keeper.

All politics. We need two top keepers and Joe Hart is a busted flush. He's had 3 seasons of being in a coconut shy. He needs to get his confidence back elsewhere I'm afraid.

Any thoughts as to why Lowton, Taylor, Mee, Tarky were under performing? Could it have been a lack of confidence in the goalkeeper. I’d say Heaton is far less hesitant coming off his line.

I agree in part. Pope is by far the best for commanding his area, but Heaton put a stop to everyone rushing back to the goal line, instead of closing space. Though I agree a good pre-season could rectify that, hopefully.

I’d like Tom to stay, but in all honesty I think Pope is the better keeper.

Yes, soon as Heaton came back in it lifted the whole team and performance levels went up 5-10% for pretty much the whole team.

I was told it was a popular decision with the team bringing Heaton back in, and stats showed it.

It’s be a shame to see Heaton leave, but we have a more than adequate understudy waiting in the wings.

The only issue I can see is that if Pope has a season like his debut one next year, some really big clubs will be after him.

Probably the right time to cash in on Tom,Pope is everything Tom is and a bit more,Joe Hart no2 jobs a good un,we don't want to be shelling out our precious transfer budget on a keeper.

I would also suggest Alex McCarthy at Southampton if fee not too high

I do wonder if he's got some encouragement from somewhere though

Maybe Hart has been working on commanding his box and defence and saving shots down to his left during his time out of the team.

Surprised me when I looked that Etheridge is 29 - so his time to improve is actually pretty limited (albeit entering peak goalkeeping age admittedly).

I didn't realise he was that old. Still he would be good as second choice.

Nail hit on the head.

I said before, Hart made all the saves a top keeper should make, Heaton makes the saves a keeper shouldn't be making.

In addition Heaton was much stronger in communication and organisation of the back 4

If he is happy with being a number 2 then aside from us signing the next Nick Pope I would be fine with him staying.

My concern is his wages- I read somewhere (may not be true) that City paid half of his wage last season, i worry what we will be paying him from next season - our own Jack Rodwell?!

The improvements that both Heaton and Pope have made whilst at the club suggest that we could possibly fix Hart's flaws over time...

...possibly

This is not good news. I sense there is something wrong here. If Tom wanted to stay there would have been negotiations and an agreement would have been reached, and kept under the radar. Lets face it he is a high profile footballer now and an international. Now that its out in the open I suspect we will not get a resolution.

Its all right saying he can go, but he is captain, inspires huge confidence, and comes over as a thoroughly nice guy

I think with Pope committing to a long term deal Heaton has realised he will ultimately be replaced, so sensibly, at his age, has decided to move on.

An absolutely wonderful goalkeeper, the best I've ever seen at Burnley and hands down the ultimate free transfer jackpot.

I am excited to see Nick Pope develop as our number one.

Maybe he’s a bit miffed that he was unceremoniously dropped and then reinstated as a last ditch attempt to stay up.

His recall was rather late in the day after being fully fit for what seemed eons.

Would like him to stay , need to move hart on asap

According to several grapevines Hart is on Stoke’s wish list if their chap whose name escapes me gets a move.

Once the Club make the offer that Tom and his Agent believe he's worth all will be roses. Other clubs will be keeping tabs on Tom knowing they can probably pay what he's asking. Players don't get many opportunity's to be in the driving seat. Tom's just exercising his right to negotiate. Time will tell but I hope a deal can be struck.

Lack of confidence in the keeper? No. Lowton is a bit hit n miss, Taylor looked an average championship left back who was stepping up, Mee terribly out of form and Tarky carrying an injury. The midfield was weak and Jack Cork offered the back four no protection. Even when Heaton came back in the defence struggled with crosses coming into the box. I'll change what I said about hesitation, Hart stays on his line, Heaton occasionally comes for crosses but isn't a commanding keeper. There is a reason that keepers don't come for every ball that comes into the box that Hart was expected to by the fans and maybe the defence, injury been one of them. We had a season of Pope collecting all of them, that is one of his strengths, very few modern day goalkeepers do that.

As for the comments about defenders running behind Hart, that has happened with Heaton and Pope so that's a load of ********. It's the way , when on form that Burnley defend. There were more defensive blocks and energy from the midfield in the second half of the season, were they less confident in Heaton or the myth they didn't like Hart which questions their professionalism.
