She's also the only footballer to score in 5 different world cups and at 33 she could potentially make that 6.

Re: Top fishing from Talksport
I remember when England won the Rugby World Cup and the media were harping on that it the first the English had won anything since 1966.
I know it’s a fact, but it’s a totally different sport.

I’m not sure you can include women's records alongside men’s. Fifa seems to recognise the women’s game as separate to the men’s so it’s a grey area for me. It would be great to see women reach a level where they could play alongside men though.

On the same basis, presumably, Talksport would put together the men's and women's athletics records and conclude that Paula Radcliffe was never a world record holder?

Re: Top fishing from Talksport
Radcliffe was still the Womens world record holder just like Klose still holds the mans record however in sports played by both sexes there will always be an overall record holder. Marta is now quite clearly the overall record holder for most goals in world cup finals football which Talksport have rightly reported.dsr wrote:On the same basis, presumably, Talksport would put together the men's and women's athletics records and conclude that Paula Radcliffe was never a world record holder?

So on any list of Premier League champions, Liverpool appear? Not in the real world.Devils_Advocate wrote:Radcliffe was still the Womens world record holder just like Klose still holds the mans record however in sports played by both sexes there will always be an overall record holder. Until there is a world cup for mixed sex teams, mens and womens stats should be kept separate. I'm sure male strikers would be a lot more prolific against female keepers.

That, in my opinion, will be the day football takes its last breath.

Says more about you than the sport then.gandhisflipflop wrote:That, in my opinion, will be the day football takes its last breath.

Perhaps we should start comparing other sporting events to women's sports like for example, the 100m. Be interesting to see how they fair across the board.

. wonders what would happen if they did do a mixed tournament and things got feisty. He suspects if the usual pushing and shoving after a bad tackle happened there would be outrage.BennyD wrote:Until there is a world cup for mixed sex teams, mens and womens stats should be kept separate. Re: Top fishing from Talksport
Gerd Muller, even now, would bag 20+ in this tournament.

What does it say about me exactly? Women's football and men's football should be left to be enjoyed separately, like women and men's tennis. You are never going to have a fair competition mixing it up, and it won't be the same sport I grew up and loved.

Re: Top fishing from Talksport
To be fair, to my knowledge, there is nothing to stop a woman being picked in pro football as it stands. The reality is that they are neither good enough or physically strong enough.
A great example can be seen in league cricket. Kate Cross and Alex Hartley, cricket world cup winners with England women. Neither of them good enough to play regular 1st XI league cricket at league level. Cross has played for Heywood a few times, with limited contribution, Alex Hartley would not be good enough for Clitheroe 1st XI.

Excellent point. That means Arsenal are now the most successful club in the country when you add their 15 womens league titles to the mens!Devils_Advocate wrote:Radcliffe was still the Womens world record holder just like Klose still holds the mans record however in sports played by both sexes there will always be an overall record holder. The womens 100m world record holder wouldn't even have placed in the qualifying rounds of any mens Olympics going back decades!

Fair enough but calling it the death of the sport of football if women get involved is over egging it, even if it was not meant to sound as bigoted as it seemed.

It wasn't bigoted at all. I don't understand why society can't accept that men and women are different and stop trying to take equality to the literal meaning of the word. Women's football isn't for me, men's football is. Mixed football just wouldn't work. It would just open a complete can of worms. What would constitute as a 'fair tackle' for example? Would managers have to do 2 separate team talks in the 2 different dressing rooms for the same side if men and women competed in the same team? Would tight marking lead to allegations of inappropriate touching even if by accident?
