Sean Dyche's first pre-season friendly with Burnley
It was July 2013, his first pre-season in charge, and we went to Morecambe in the first pre-season friendly and were beaten 1-0. There were cries of Dyche Out from some as we left the ground even though we ended the game with Alex Cisak, Alex Coleman, Tom Anderson, Steven Hewitt, Luke Gallagher, Jason Gilchrist and George Porter on the pitch.
It was the first time we saw Tom Heaton playing for us and there was a trialist in there by the name of Scott Arfield. I always remember a post on the message board saying we were going nowhere as a club if we were giving the likes of Arfield a trial.
Team that night was: Tom Heaton (Alex Cisak ht), Joseph Mills (Alex Coleman 41), Kevin Long (Michael Duff ht), Jason Shackell (Ben Mee ht), Danny Lafferty (Tom Anderson 74), Keith Treacy (Ross Wallace ht), Dean Marney (Steven Hewitt ht), Brian Stock (Junior Stanislas ht), Scott Arfield (Luke Gallagher 74), Sam Vokes (Jason Gilchrist 74), Danny Ings (George Porter ht). Subs not used: Jack Errington, Archie Love.

It's telling that Tom,Ben and K Long are still stalwarts of our 1st team/squad,shows the continuity in the back 5.
Re: Sean Dyche's first pre-season friendly with Burnley
And that night an acquaintance of mine, shouted something like " Eff Off Dyche, this is garbage" or words to that effect whilst walking off early.
Many looked at him disgusted, and Mr Dyche himself mentioned it several times after in various interviews....
Thankfully for us all, he didnt listen to him!

Re: Sean Dyche's first pre-season friendly with Burnley
I remember going to that game wondering what I'd see, having been fairly annoyed at the football the season before.
I was happy how we tried to pass the ball, not too bothered that we lost and thought we'd struggle again but was happy enough after with what Dyche was trying to do. But never imagined anything like what happened.
Course, showed how little we know!

It's probably the reason he doesn't like fans at pre season games.

That's an understatement Lancaster but to be honest I can't think Dyche could have imagined anything like what happened either.Lancasterclaret wrote:But never imagined anything like what happened.

He was brilliant with us at Alfreton a couple of years back, talking quite openly at his delight at the possibility of pairing up Cork and Defour and the general prospects for the new season.Quickenthetempo wrote:It's probably the reason he doesn't like fans at pre season games.

Had a photo with SD at a couple of different friendlies at Accy - seemed happy to chat and have a quick pose for the camera.Quickenthetempo wrote:It's probably the reason he doesn't like fans at pre season games.

You can never read anything into pre season results, completely meaningless. Over the years we've had some good and some absolute shockers. None of them give any clue as to how the season is likely to pan out. I gave up pulling my hair out when I still had hair to pull.

Joseph Mills. I'd forgotten about him. He wasn't great....

He wasn’t that good.Jakubs Tash wrote:Joseph Mills. I'd forgotten about him. He wasn't great....
Signed him on loan but we were committed to signing him permanently. Now at Forest Green who have also just signed his brother Matt.

I forgot about Mills did he not play left back the day Judas returned on the opening day with Bolton in 2012? I thought he looked very decent that day

He's given 22 players a game, and to be perfectly honest some of them were well below the standard we needed. He did a fantastic job from that point on.
