O/t Peugeot ECU updates

I have a 57 reg Peugeot 308 and the radiator fan stays on all the time when ignition is on.
No related faults, no warning lights on dash and temperature normal.
Garage I normally take it to said it may need a dealer ECU update so rang dealers who quoted £90 for 'diagnostics' and another £90 if it did need an ECU update!

My question is can these updates only be done by an official Peugeot dealer or is there any other option?

Car runs normally so not sure I want to fork out £180 minimum just to stop the fan being a bit noisy.

Any advice appreciated.

Unplug the fan, job done.

ECU updates are dealer only, they plug it into their system at the workshop which is connected to Peugeot head office in some instances.

Firstly -
Has your regular garage ran a diagnostic of their own with their own machine?
If yes, what fault codes are coming up?
If not, get someone else to do it.

The fan is controlled by a thermostat, a couple of sensors, a relay and ultimately the ECU, plus all the wiring in-between.
It could even be the fan itself at fault.

If it came into my garage we'd do our own diagnostic, see what the codes are and then check the above in pretty much that order.

It's worth considering an auto electrician, as some garages can struggle with tracing electrical faults, especially if you're trying to find a break in a wire or confirm an ECU fault etc.

Similar thing happened to a Honda a family member had - took it to a garage behind the taxi office across from Inn on the wharf and I think it was £120 to sort it.

That time it was something related to a fan though I think.

Assuming you are local take it to Paul Emmott at thge Bosch Service Centre on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, Nelson and ask his opinion.
