England v Sri Lanka Cricket

Post by tybfc » Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:07 am

Sri Lanka win the toss and have chosen to bat.

England name an unchanged side from the last game.

. thinks the score suggests they’ve done alright and it’s a good thing. He expects Sri Lanka will finish on around 230 which he would think England will chase down easily enough.

To win any of the big games the minimum needed now is to have at least one top order batter to make a run a ball 100plus.

Batting first and using scoreboard pressure seems the easiest route to winning a game.

We'll get em in singles, good contest but England should be OK with the batting to come, similar game to SA-NZ a couple of days ago,the advantage for the chasing side is they know the requirement, yet another 50 for Root, the only slight concern is he's due a failure sooner or later.

Vince has blown his chance if you can't score runs against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, forget it against the likes of Boult and Starc.

Hope Jason Roy is fit and firing ASAP.Him and Bairstow up top gives England a great platform to go all the way.

Stokes is in a hurry, must have an urgent appointment.

I was convinced Buttler's was going down the leg side but hawk eye started from Malinga releasing the ball from past the umpires face.
I know his side arm action gets him close to the wickets but that's just crazy.

Nor me. I know it’s been done to death but it looks like a chuck. If someone tried that in club cricket you’d get laughed out of the attack. And no balled.

Stokes just got a four to take him to 50 but 57 needed from 64 balls with 6 wickets down.

If he's coming in at 400 for 3 Mooen Ali is great, but any kind of pressure whatsoever and he is a waste of time. Absolutely spineless.

Archer gone. Game all but over. We are 9 down and. Still want 47 from 38 balls.

After this game we have three left against the others in the top four. We will need to win two of them at leSt to qualify.

Unfair on Wood ---he faced more balls than Bairstow and Rashid and the same as Woakes ---he should not have been in that situation.
He has taken 12 wickets for 203 runs and has only had one innings in this WC so far and scored 10 not out in our other defeat v Pakistan and he faced more balls in that one than Rashid and Archer!

Was merely pointing out that Stokes had taken the single to get strike for the next over and left Wood with one ball to face. Wasn’t meant in any way to be a criticism of Wood.

No problem Tony --just standing up for the local lad! He has done better than I thought he would and I know that he would be very disappointed at getting out because, like all fast bowlers, he thinks that he can bat! :D
We have really messed up today as far as I am concerned and we will have to go some against the other top teams now because they are all decent.

Difficult position at the end for Stokes but when you avoid taking runs to keep batsman off strike it drains confidence from them. Wood is capable but didn't need to play that ball.

I can understand him farming the strike after the collapse though.

Sri Lanka deserved the win, bowled well.

Sri Lanka have South Africa next, followed by the West Indies and lastly India,i can see them picking up wins in the first 2,and it's possible India will rest some key players in the final match,England on the 2 occasions they've been under pressure in tight contests have come up short twice, big performance required against the Aussies, lose that and nerves will be fraying.

Stokes and Root apart the batting line-up should take a long look at their failings today,Moeen had a rush of blood, you've just hit a six man,why are you attempting such a daft shot when the RR isn't excessive, criminal that England had 18 balls remaining, and only needed a run a ball,3/4 wickets in hand and that's eminently feasible(to quote Boris from the other evening).

Wow. Brathwaite brings up his hundred. Windies need 6 to win from 7 deliveries and he holes out to long on.

After a long wait the World Cup finally came alive these last two days.
